GIMP :: Creating Displacement Map From Texture

Feb 16, 2013

I am trying to create a displacement map from a texture, and am not sure how to go about it. If you look at the attachments you can see what I am trying to accomplish. What I have done so far is:

Desat by Lumin
Motion Blur -> Linear
Length 10

Then I think I need to color by apparent depth.. which I am not sure how to do?

Photoshop :: Creating Magma Texture

May 31, 2013

I've been trying for a long time, mostly in Ai, to make a tile able Magma pattern. but never being satisfied with the results.

If you visit my blog you'll see it's mostly build-able paper models that I design then add graphics to, then freely distribute for anyone to download & build. I've always wanted to use a magma texture, & I try to stay away from stock, with the attitude "If I want to claim this as my work, I should do all the work", so I've never been able to. Although I have looked for it to get pointers, but never found what I'm looking for.

Now with my new found passion for Photoshop, & to expand away from just paper toys, I want to try again. I want to achieve something like the pattern in the link, but from a direct overhead view not perspective, and more magma than dry earth. Without having to draw out every little piece preferably.

Photoshop :: Creating Stucco Texture

Jul 1, 2009

I'm trying to create a texture or find a texture that I could use in my web design that looks like real stucco. I need to be able to change the color to a beige / tan or anything I want, that's why I'm thinking about going down the route of making it myself.

I tried a clouds difference / noise effect but couldn't quite get that "real" look, came out like a pixelated image and not the result I wanted.

Photoshop :: Creating A Brick Texture

Jan 25, 2009

My house is a red brick house that has had a white wash applied to the brick. (Those that don't know, this is like very thin white paint, or stain for brick. It gives a white look to it.) Anyway, I'm considering getting rid of the white wash (by use of pressure wahser) and would like to see what it will look like with the fresh red brick look.

I have a shot of the existing house (posted below) and a shot of the area where the white wash was removed. I now want to apply this "clean brick" to the "washed brick" to view the entire house.

Due to the brick not having a consistent color or texture, changing this in PhotoShop has become difficult. My only thought is to create a new texture or brush based off of a portion of the new brick. Then to select and apply that to all of the old bricks. Obvioulsy selecting all of the old bricks is another problem of its own.

The file upload manager seems to not be working for this forum. I'll try to upload later. For time being, imagine replacing a painted brick with a plain brick.

Photoshop :: Creating 3D Cube With Custom Texture In CS6

Apr 19, 2013

How to create a 3d box in CS6 with custom texture. Before explaining my problem, i saw couple of good 3d onject videos already and i am close to my target but yet not finished

Problem:

I would like to create a 3d product box with custom textures, reflection and shadows. I have my top, front, back and side images in high quality.

My Solution:

1- With my box TOP image, i create the 3d layer.
2- Because it creates the box with the top image looking front, i position it as the top image comes to the top of the box.
3- I resize the box to the dimensions i would like to.
4- Side, front and back textures are missing. As its a custom made box, i can only add all of them in one image so i merge them vertically in a file and add the texture in 3d section
5- With UV scaling, i fit the image perfectly
6- Adding light and reflections
7- Render

Now the main problem is, my images have the exact measures of the real product box and i would like to create a box with these dimensions.

1- How can i play with the dimensions of the 3d box with numbers, such as pixel or cm ? As i can see, its only with %. Or is there an option so when i add the second image (side, front and back, merged), box's length dimension changes accordingly?

2- How can i create 3d box and add different textures to different part of the box? I found CUBE MESH PRESET in the forums but no download link, EVEN IN THE DISCCUSION itself

3- I have a i5-3570 , 8GB Ram, 1GB Radeon HD7750 at work, newly built. I work with high resolution files, and when i create my box and render it, some parts come out blur, why this is happening? At home i have a older PC, and it doesnt happen that much. Where i can modify the render quality or such a thing if it exists?

GIMP :: Pattern / Texture In Image?

Jul 27, 2013

I want to know how I can put a pattern on an image. It needs to be an image with a transparent background. For example, this image (that I found on Google):

(this is a huge picture, I am just using it as an example).

Its a PNG image. Its a star template, filled with a pattern of stars....how can I do this using Gimp? I want to make different stars like this one..some with cheetah pattern, some with zebra pattern etc.

I know it has to do with the layers or something

Also, does Gimp come with templates I can use? Like a star, for instance?

GIMP :: Changing Color In A Texture

Apr 13, 2012

I'd like to change the picture here:

[URL].........

So that the fur of the animal looks purple/mauve (in particular the gray part, it would be best if the white part didn't change).

I haven't found a way to do this, even approximately (which would be enough), in a textured surface. Methods I've seen changing the hue saturation seem to work when working with primary colors, but I can't get it to work with a gray color.

GIMP :: Darkened Texture In Logo?

My question is, how can I recreate this texture, having some darker and some lighter pixels?

Also, what would be the best way to recreate the wind effect? I tried using wind, but that winds out the entire text rather than just the bottom of each letter.

GIMP :: Color Matching Dirt Texture?

Nov 25, 2013

I've been trying to work on my color matching skills (which are poor). The long term goal is to be able to match a sample texture's color with other texture samples that have been de-saturated then re-colored to match the original so that they can blend in and out of each other easily.

I'm using the attached image as a sample, then de-saturating it and trying to get the same color in the de-saturated image. I've tried using different mix modes, different base colors, playing with levels, colorize, and other plug ins - but I can never get quite the same color across the image. Its either too brown, too red, too yellow, etc. I was wondering what methods would be used to get a close to exact result - and for that matter, if it is even possible to color match only using 1 base color as a overlay (or other mix type)?

GIMP :: Paint Brushing Copied Texture Possible?

Apr 24, 2012

I have an old photograph. The print is not in good shape, it looks like an old oil painting with cracks all over the place. It looks bit like a jigsaw. I have to zoom in quite far and when I do, I can, if I wish, select a small area that is homogeneous. The area is a coat, so it's sort of a cloth texture. Now, to my way of thinking, I wish I could select this small area and the select paintbrush which would lay down a textured area exactly like the selected textured area.  That would be kind of a magical paintbrush. To my limited mind, I think I may have to paint over the whole photograph to restore it. But, anyhow how might I begin to restore this photo I have?

GIMP :: Converting Flat Photo Into Texture For 3D Shape

Mar 29, 2013

I want to create a a texture for a 3D model of a human head - I don't have the original template but I do have these examples which I can use as a template. [URL]

I think for the moment I'll skip the mouth and ears and eyes aren't so hard to sort. What I can't find however, is any information on how I would go about making the face, hair and neck. What seems easiest for a cack-handed individual such as myself is to use a photo (flat-lit, straight-on, neutral expression, unobscured) of someone's face and then deform it and use some clone-like tools to fill in any gaps.

Obviously I'll need to match the coordinates of particular points on the face and keep large sections entirely unmodified. Then I'll need to do some sort of cloning or smudging to extrapolate bits of the head I don't have.

Well, is it even possible to work from a photo (or couple of photos).

GIMP :: Blend Solid Edge Of Picture To Background / Also TEXTURE?

Aug 5, 2011

I used to work in Photoshop and GIMP, but then became sidetracked. I've forgotten half of it. I used to make siggies for others all the time, although I really was guessing my way through some of it. I knew I could do better.

Anyway, I figured it'd be wise to start with a really basic question. I'll use the pic below as an example.

In a pic such as this one, how would you go about seamlessly blending the edge of the picture with the background? (All I did so far was have 2 separate layers; the picture of the hottie, and then behind it of course was just the template where I tried to match the pink from the hotty pic).

I'm also curious about just blending 2 or more photographs together to create a collage. I've done this before, but I know I made it harder and more tedious than it had to be. So.... would a collage have to be done a little differently.

I used to go about all this various ways way back when, but like I said... I've forgotten half my little tricks which I know really weren't the correct and easiest route to go about it.
