CorelCAD :: Raise Or Indent Text On 3D Object?

Nov 15, 2013

I want to have raised or indented text on a 3D object.  (A block with my name in raised letters.)  I can't find anything in the menus.  There is a note function - any way to extrude these letters. Can I import a CorelDraw dwg and somehow make a solid object?

Goal is to create (modify) a solid and export as .STL for a 3D printer.

CorelCAD :: Text Could Be Added Or Removed From Objects As 3D Image

Mar 2, 2013

Sometimes, we just don't know there's a better way to do stuff, and others can point it out. Perhaps we'll come up with something useful that Corel can pass back to Graebert for inclusion within ARES. :)

I'd like to see a 3D font that could be placed on objects and extruded as a solid, so that text could be added or removed from objects as a 3D image. So that a minimum width could be assigned to the font, to allow text to be added as a raised or inlaid surface to 3D designs...

Illustrator :: Insert Right Indent Tab

I'm trying to insert a right indent tab in illustrator or find another way that I can have left and right justified text on the same line--much like you'd do for a table of contents. I know that this can be done in InDesign, but the project I'm working on has to be completed with illustrator.

GIMP :: Raise One Image On Another?

Feb 16, 2012

I have a picture of a planet, what I want to do is put a raised icon on top of the planet picture. I want the image to be transparent, so it'd basically just raise the section of the planet corresponding with where I put the second image.

The best thing I can think of is almost like mountains or a continent whose outline based on an icon I have as a separate image.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Raise Grading

May 9, 2012

Is there an easy way to raise an entire site by 1.0 foot and have the grading hit the previous targeted surface?  The only way I have found is to grab all the feature lines and raise them up by the required amount, but by doing that, the grading bogs down my system and it crashes, plus, I have grading attached to 3dpoly's and not necessarily all feature lines.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: How To Raise Or Lower Z Value At Any Vertex

Aug 23, 2012

I am using acad 2010. I have the ability to draw a 3d polyline on the screen with a different xyz value for each vertex using a digitizing puck. I need a lisp routine that will allow me to adjust the z value only (not the x and y values) on any 3d polyline. I just need to raise or lower the z value at any vertex and repeat if nessasary but I don't want to type it in, I want to raise/lower the z using digitizing puck (with z wheel)....example: I draw a 3d polyline which has 9 vertices with different elevations - vertex #6 is 22.6 (too high) in the z value so I need to drop it to 22.4 without typing it in. Vertex #8 is 12.2 (too low) so I need to raise the z to 12.6 without typing it in and using the z wheel on my digitizing puck. Others have tried and but this is a bit complicated and I may have not expressed it correctly.

CorelCAD :: 3D Printing

Jan 16, 2013

mirrorclip.JPG

Just thought I'd share some stuff that can be done with CorelCAD.

Under export, you can export a STL or STereo Lithography file. These files can be sent to a 3D printer. Sometimes, when things around the house break or go missing, a quick measure with a caliper and some fast CAD work - then a half-hour or so in the printer will produce a new part.

CorelCAD is quite useful for that kind of work.

Here's some stuff I've done with CorelCAD and an UP 3D Mini printer, which makes parts in ABS plastic - and they are quite strong... So it's great to build stuff.

First project: A clip to stop my mirror wobbling. Took about 8 minutes to design and about 8 to print.

CorelCAD :: Normal Z - Different Values In Field

Feb 15, 2013

I use CorelCAD 2013 and the software seems perfect to me. But now i realized a huge problem. I only use CAD in 2D Mode. When i make the drawings i have different Z Values in the Field "Normal Z". I don't know why CorelCad does this. I never put in a Z Value.

Is the Normal Z Value editable? When i export the Drawing to my cam system the drawing is disarranged but only all Values with different Z. Normally the value is zero but she lines are -1...?

CorelCAD :: Import From Technical Designer X5

Jun 1, 2011

I  exported a drawing (Clipper ship drawing) from TDX5 to CorelCAD .dwg format. Here are some first findings/remarks:

1. Bezier curves are displayed as "segmented" lines - should be bezier curves or adapted splines. (My Clipper ship drawings contain hundreds of bezier curves next to B-splines).

2. Texture fills are not displayed properly, only fragments and on wrong places.

3. Hidden layers are exported and shown - there should be an option to indicate whether a hidden layer should be exported or not. Better still in CorelCAD a hidden layer should remain hidden until a "show layer" command is issued. Now you have to delete a hidden layer before exporting the drawing. (My ships drawings contain many layers, many of them often hidden).

CorelCAD :: Setting A Drawing Scale

Dec 3, 2013

I want to create a scaled drawing.  I make geologic cross sections with drill holes that are 500 to 1000' deep.  I would like to set the drawing scale to something like 1"=250'.  So a 1000 foot drill hole would be a line 4 inches long on the screen.  I have gone to the Drawing Scale List and figured out how to create a new scale, but nothing I try allows me to change the drawing scale from 1:1.  I can edit the list, but I can't change the 1:1 default.

I have tried right clicking, double clicking etc.  It seems that the drawing area stays at the original 1:1 scale.  What am I doing wrong? I want to make a drawing where I can give the Line command the coordinates 250,0 and it draws a vertical line 1 inch long.

CorelCAD :: Creating Scaf Folding

Mar 16, 2013

cyl1.jpg

I don't know if this is common knowledge when editing 3D, but you can creates scaffolding to allow you to move the CCS more easily and place parts where you want. So the easiest way to get your parts placed correctly is with a little scaffolding.

Scaffolding is just a 3D part you create, with specific known dimensions, so that is exists in the model-space and either intersects it at different locations, or provides an external reference point to move the CCS origin to.

Here's an example. Suppose I want a 20mm long, 10mm diameter cylinder, with a 5mm hole all the way through the side, with it's center about 5mm down from the top.

Creating a temporary scaffold to locate the CCS origin is the only way to do it without having to use tools like MOVE and ALIGN, and may be necessary even to use ALIGN properly.

Here's how it works. Let's start with a cylinder.

CorelCAD :: Weld Doesn't Seem To Work Correctly On Some ARC

Nov 17, 2013

Weld doesn't seem to work correctly on some ARCs, though I don't quite know which ones yet. Here's an example - A left and right box created to allow two hemispheres to be made. Now try to "weld" them into a circle, and the program fails and delets both, replacing them with some rubbish.

This is most definitely a bug... It's very unusual behavior. Also, when ARCs are used in a welded shape, and it's extruded, it sometimes fails to make a solid. I found that two arcs with two polylines worked, but four arc and four polylines did not.

Also, if we're submitting bugs via Corel rather than directly with Graebert, is it possible to get a bug tracking list on the forum?

Update: Took this ( and others ) to Corel Support. They looked into it, and apparently weld doesn't do what the training videos say it does ( and it doesn't quite do what AutoCAD thinks either ) - but it's all moot.

To do this - Type PEDIT and then M for Multiple polylines. Select and convert them all, then JOIN. Works beautifully. So, if connecting lines, don't use WELD or JOIN - use PEDIT and convert to Polylines first.

CorelCAD :: UNION Fails With Solids Made Entirely From 3D Polylines

Sep 26, 2013

FAIL-UNION-3D-Polyline based wedge.dwg...An unusual bug here, and a workaround of sorts. This one is fairly serious and results from attempting a union of a solid with another solid, when one of the solids is created entirely from 3D polylines and is not on a CCS planar axis.

I'll attach the same file twice - once with a bug ( 3D polyline solid ) and once without the bug ( Solid has been modified to include one "normal" polyline face.

In the middle, a wedge connects the two. Basically, I needed to increase the angle between them by 15 degrees, so slice, polyline around faces and LOFT. Pretty simple and straight forward.  The result was that any attempt of a union with the wedge in the middle results in a failure due to inconsistent faces, and the deletion of the non-polyline solid.

This results in damage to the file, and the operation must be backed out or reloaded. If the middle solid includes ONE normal polyline face, with a repositioned CCS on the face, then no problem. This is a workaround, but only sometimes, however if fixes the problem for both the polyline face and the 3D polyline face.

I've encountered this problem a few times, but it was this project that made it possible to capture it cleanly and understand what was happening. It's a critical bug, but only affects parts made from 3D polylines and LOFT operation, so it's more likely to affect complicated designs.

To see problem, take 3D polyline file and use SOLID UNION on the three ( or middle and one side ) pieces and you'll get an error and part deletion. Try again with the "workaround" file, and you'll see that it works both sides now.

The file with this post is the "broken" one - the middle wedge is a single 3D solid created with LOFT and 3D Polylines.

CorelCAD :: Can't Do 3D Pattern Counter Clockwise With Angle Less Than 360 Degrees

Apr 5, 2013

When using 3D pattern, and specifying a negative angle for counter clockwise, with an angle less than 360 degrees ( eg, 90 degrees ) the pattern will be spread over 360 degrees anyway.

Also, the directions in the application are wrong. negative angles are for counterclockwise, not clockwise.

Workaround: Make all patterns clockwise, and reverse the direction of the axis around which it rotates. This will achieve the desired outcome.

CorelCAD :: LOFT Command Fails With 3D Polyline Objects

Jan 10, 2013

There is a major bug with CorelCAD LOFT command - when used with 3D polyline objects, it fails and errors out with the following error:

Specify cross-sections in lofting order»1 found, 2 totalSpecify cross-sections in lofting order»Selected cross-section is not a valid type.

The workaround is to set the CCS to the plane of the 3D polyline object and then use 2D polylines to recreate it, move the 2D version, delete the 3D version, Align the 2D version with where the 3D version came from and then repeat the LOFT command.

Has been logged with Graebert under ticket: #12458

To repeat the error, see the test file. There are two radially aligned triangles in each set. The set on the left are 3D polyline. The set on the right are 2D polyline.  Attempting to loft the set on the left will cause the error.

Both large and small triangles are respectively co-planar.
