AutoCad :: Scale Object To Exact Dimensions?
Jun 22, 2011
After using autocad for a while, I got some questions i'd like to ask.
1) In my line of work, I have to label the items I draw in every CAD file, multileader is a nice tool to have but how do I keep the styles I make so that it "transfers" over to a new CAD file?
I have to keep making a new style everytime I create a new drawing. I would like for the default style to stay after I edit it.
2) Is there a way or command that lets me scale an object to exact dimensions? For example, I have a 800 by 750 table in my block library, the size I need is 950 by 820, normally I would have to explode it then stretch it manually on the x and y axis, is there a way to scale it up to 950 by 820 through a command?
3) I don't know what I hit, but I can't seem to select multiple objects just by clicking on them anymore, I now have to hold down the SHIFT key. How do I revert this?

I am currently working on the drawing which I initially didnt have a template for (ie the border for the A1 page this drawing will be printed on) so off I went and started drawing using a scale of 1 drawing units = 1mm.
Now I have been given the border and the drawing I have comes no where near fitting on the sheet so I want to select all of the drawing and change the scale but I obviously don't want the dimensions to change. How can I achieve this?
I also need to know as there are certain parts of the drawings that need zoomed in views so all I want to do is copy the parts I have drawn and increase the scale but again keep the dimensions the same.

Is there a way to dimension in AutoCAD LT?
For example: I draw a line and when I dimension it, it comes up as 9.32, but I want that line to be 5.1. Is there a way to dimension this line? Is there code that I should be familiar with? I need the line to be exact dimensions, not just change the number.

I'm creating a logo for a newspaper ad for an attorney. It would be very easy to create by itself, but the damn dimensions keep changing.
Whenever I try and create a new file W 2.646 " x H 2.895 " it changes W to 2.458 " which I DO NOT WANT and the image cannot be used unless the width is correct.
This is really frustrating and I was wondering if there was ANY way I can turn this dumb thing off. I want EXACT dimensions and it keeps changing it.

I am using CorelDraw X4 and I am having problems printing exact sizes. The printer I am using is the HP designjet Z6100 (42 inch). Recently I tried to print a sign that needed to be exactly 17inches but it came out 16.5inches. When I clicked on the image it said that it was 17inches, but does not print correctly.

Originally noticed individuals faces were just slightly elongated on the monitor screen.
Used printer profile template and did not zoom to where you had to scroll up or down, etc. Although smaller than actual size, the entire image fit on the screen. Measured width and height and then calculated to see how far off the image ratio actually was. It was indeed slightly elongated.
Did this on two 17" monitors with different dimensions (Length & Width)and different monitor resolutions. Did this with both Windows XP and Mac Book Pro using the same image in Photoshop CS2 (Win) and CS3 (Mac). The Windows image is slightly more elongated than the Mac. The Mac screen resolution is slightly greater than the Windows. The image on the Mac is less elongated than that of the Windows but nonetheless elongated.
Never noticed until the recent purchase of the Mac.
The XP system prints exactly to scale. Have not yet printed with the Mac.

I've created a FIRE psd image and saved it as a jpg file:
I would now like to use this image. To do this I need to reduce this image to the following precise dimenstions: height: 238, width: 264. I know how to select and trim the image that I want using the Square deselect tool. No problem there. What I don't understand is how can I see the precise dimensions of this new image BEFORE I save it as a new file. Is there a way for me to see these dimensions as I select the image and adjust the selection accordingly?

I am trying to size a simple graphic/logo so that it is a certain number of pixels wide at 300dpi.
For example, I need the image to be 3 inches wide and able to be printed at 300dpi.
How do I specify the exact image dimensions and maintain a DPI of 300?

I have me riding a giant bird with a transparent background, with the pixel dimensions of 3000x3373 and I have a sky picture with the EXACT same dimensions (3000x3373) that I want to use as a background by rearranging the layers, but when I paste the sky background it pasts onto the bird picture at only <10% of the size of the bird picture EVEN THOUGH both images are the EXACT same dimensions.

I have resized the image in Photoshop CS5 using Perfect Resize. The image dimensions are 20.00 inches x 13.33 inches. In the Lightroom print module, I chose these settings: cell size to 20.00 in x 13.33 in. All the margins are set to 0.00. "Zoom to Fill" is not checked.Page Setup: 17 x 22 paper. Manual - rear-borderless (retain size) .The size printed is 20.5 in x 13.75 in..What should I be doing to get the print size to match the cell size of 20.00 x 13.33?

I am having a problem trying to get text to fit to exact dimensions. Here is a link to a graphic representation of the problem I will explain below: [URL] ..........
This is an example of a plaque I'm working on. The red box Q will be a photograph while the black box will be text (represented by the blue lines). I have a specific body of text that needs to fit inside the black box such that the left margin (segment AB) is exactly 1/2 inch from box Q. Further, the text should also be exactly 1/2 inch from box Q at segment BC, such that the top of the text meets this 1/2 inch margin.
I can't make the text fit correctly. If you notice the text line labeled Z, you'll see that the top of the text does not reach the segment BC, meaning that the distance between box Q and the top of the text Z is much greater than 1/2 inch. If this is the case, the picture in box Q will be surrounded by unequal space on the right (AB) as compared to the bottom (BC). Furthermore, the text beginning at point A and the text labeled X also need to reach the exact margins of the black box to meet the exact dimensions of the borders of the final piece.
When I use something like Text > Paragraph Text Frame > Fit Text to Shape, what happens is the line labeled Y clearly sits to low, making the line spacing force line Z too far from segment BC.

Can i scale a 2D object to an exact length and width that i need to fit into a space?
Ive been reading around online and they say use scale/ref, however i noticed by giving the ref length, it does lengthen the object to the ref length, but the height's off!

When I open a new drawing in my AutoCAD 2013 that I just recently installed last week, I encounter a problem that I am not familiar with from previus versions of AutoCAD I have worked on. First of all, the units default to decimal, and I want them to default to architectural, with feet and inches. I have to type UNITS in the command line every time I open a new drawing in order to adjust this. I have AutoCAD for Architecture 2012 on another computer, and the program automatically defaults to architectural units upon opening up. Just to let you know, the program I am having this difficulty with is part of a package called Autodesk Building Design Suite 2013. I was under the impression that it included AutoCAd for Architecture, but I think it has only standard AutoCAD.
The scale of the objects I draw vs. the scale of the drawing field is very out of proportion. What I mean is, when I open a new drawing and draw a 30' -0" line, the line appears so long on the screen that I cannot see the whole object, even if I zoom out to the maximum. I should be able to see the object in it's entirety. In fact, when I draw a line that is only 12" long, even when the zoom is all the way out, the line looks huge in length. I have tried adjusting the units to the architectural/inches setting of course, and I have tried adjusting the scale in model space from 1:1 to 1/4'=1'-0", but nothing is working.

I would like to find a lisp that changes the scale of something that has an annotative scale and deletes all other scales in the object scale list. Often i have many different scales of existing dimensions or objects. i waste a lot of time opening the annotation object scale dialogue box, selecting add, finding my scale and deleting the old scale.

I have a serious problem with AutoCAD placing improperly scaled dimensions within viewports. I have a drawing where half of the dimensions are correctly scaled and the other half are off by as much as 4 times their value. This occurs randomly without any rhyme or reason- and sometimes occurs whenever a drawing is opened. I know of a couple of drawings that if I simply open them, a dozen dimensions will scale up to 12x their intended value. It has happened to everyone on my staff. We are using LT 2011- but I have had a similar problem using 2004 & 2007 full seats.

I've got .dxf files of parts that need to be manufactured, however in this instance I need to manufacture 3/4 scale versions of these parts. So far I've been simply printing the plans and using my trusty calculator to change the scale of the dimensions.
But now I've got a couple of pages in this set of plans that have over a thousand dimensions on them. It would be really cool if I could just open a dialog or enter a command and have all the dimension on the page multiplied by a scaler so I can print the plans with the correct dimensions on them.
Scaling the model has been suggested. I assume that when you scale a model that the dimensions automatically update. However, I have no idea if these .dxfs contain model information or just 2D plan data and I don't know how to check.
The second question of my post is only; Is there a way to view the actual size of the plans in auto cad? Sort of a "Display actual size" button?

I'd like to take a set of ordinate dimensions and multiply all the values by 10. Is this possible, without overriding the values and making them static?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm making a flat layout sketch for pockets around a drum. So imagine taking a drum and rolling it out flat. In the direction along the drum I drew it as 1" = 1" and for the circumfrence direction I did 1" = 10° so I don't have sketch that is 13" x 360". So I need to scale the dimensions in 1 direction up by 10.

I've just recently changed jobs and so I'm working on a new (to me) system with Autocad Mechanical 2013. I had been working with Mechanical 2010.
One (of the many) issues that is bothering me, is that I can't seem to scale resize individual dimension. Normally, I'd create the dimensions and then if I needed to tweak the fit, I'd go into the Properties pallet and change the overall scale under Fit. Not really a good standard of practice, I know...
But when I do that on my current system, the dimension doesn't change at all.
On top of that, I have a weird refresh problem. If I grab a dim by the grip and move/stretch it, it doesn't actually show the new position unless I Regen. Is that a setting or maybe just a slow reaction by my computer?

Modeling 1:1 in MS, dimensioning in PS different scaled viewports. Plotted from PS, did further work both in MS/PS and notice dimension readings have scaled up by 99.98% and 100% to what they were in hard copy. Changed dims in properties but for some reason they have reverted back to the percentage increase? For example I have a 5745mm truss span that is now a 574.5 meter spanning truss!!?? Haven’t altered dimstyle at all or any scalings. Laid another dimension again in PS along side the exaggerated one using same endpoints in order to check things and it’s fine.
Would like to know what has caused the dims to scale up in PS and, how to undo the problem, hoping not to have to re-dimension.
Attached is the dwg. and yes, I have dimensioned in MS but there was a reason. It’s PS that’s causing the grief.

I have a drawing from an outside source which was not drawn to scale, and dimensioned in MS.. When trying to scale the drawing to 1:1, the dimensions lose their contents. When looking at the properties, the contents of the override do not jive with what is actually shown, and any attempt to edit, move, copy/paste, or scale the dimensions will delete the contents. I have not come across anything like this before. Drawing attached...

Is there any way to locate exact center of a circle in after effects? I made a perfect circle in photo editing program and since layer's boundaries corresponded to circle's edges, i thought that anchor point in after effects will be exactly at the center. but it's not the case - the anchor point is at the center of a composition!
I imported the circle .psd layer together with other layers as a composition, does this have any importance? As i said, the circle layer boundaries corresond with circles edges, not with canvas' edges in my photo editing program. But whe i solo the circle layer, i see that the anchor point is at the center of a composition, not the layer.
So now i have to place anchor point at the center manualy, and it's pretty difficult to do it perfectly. when i rotate the circle, it wobbles and wobbles.

I am using AutoCAD 2011. my scale being off for text, dimensions, inserting scalable blocks, xrefs, etc...
The problem is that when inserting, or creating text (or any of the above) in architectural scales everything is fine, however, when the scale is changed to an engineering scale, everything comes in at 1/12 the scale it is supposed to be - i.e. - when I create text it has to be scaled up by 12, it's like AutoCAD is just reading the 200 scale and not multiplying by the scaler of 2400.
