I have a drawing with so many rectangles in one layer. i want the sizes of those rectangles( ie L x B) is there any way to get the sizes of a rectangles from autocad and paste it into excel.

I need a script that will ask me to select the excel file, read the excel file, and create rectangles from each of the thousands of rows. I'm working in a windows environment and have Illustrator CS4. Any scripts out there that might give me a start?

Is there an easier way to export data to Excel so that I can have the dimension reports rather than doing them manually. The second question is on the ability to save the document as a .pdf, although I think this is possible.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am designing a RCC Dam and the shape of the dam is constant and will not change, but the dimensions of this shape are very likely to change depending upon hydraulic analysis.
I have written a program (irrelevant, but I am using MathCad 14) that performs a stability analysis of a RCC Dam (based on elevations from the hydraulic analysis) and then exports the dam dimensions and coordinates to Excel.
I am attempting to then take those coordinates (or dimensions) from Excel to create a 2-D dimensioned drawing of the Dam in AutoCAD.
I have successfully linked the Excel spreadsheet containing these coordinates and dimensions to AutoCad tables in my drawing, but I am having trouble getting AutoCAD to update my drawing as these tables update with different coordinates and dimensions.
I would like to have a drawing that is fully dimensioned (as the shape of the dam will not change), but that will update coordinates and dimensions as I pump out different dam dimensions from my stability analysis.

When I link in an excel document to my model all parameters in that excel gets the unit (mm).
How can I change this? For instance I want some of the parameters to be an angle.
Recently I have been trying to build table driven products and ipart tables, but when I copy a member to create a new part number, upon exiting the iassembly author I get the following message "excel installation is required for this operation. failed to launch excel". I have a fully functional version of 2010 Excel installed which has been used so it should be recognized in the windows registry. I am running Windows 8 and Autodesk Inventor 2014.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have AutoCAD 2013 and often "paste special" excel files that automatically update when the excel file changes.The problem I'm running into is I work with a person who has uses an older version of CAD 2004, so I always save to the older format for him.
When I etransmit, I be sure to add the excel file, but when he opens the dwg, only the outline of the excel appears in his dwg, no content.
Let me start by saying I am not an AutoCAD wiz by any means. I have AutoCAD LT 2013 at my work and for the last year I have used it with no issues same as I have for the last 10 with previous versions.
This morning I came in and I cannot pan with my scroll wheel or double click the scroll wheel to zoom to extents. I have tried checking the settings for the wheel for pan and zoom and they are both at "1"
Whats even more frustrating is now all of a sudden I cannot enter dimensions for rectangles and other items with the small boxes that usually show up next to my item on the workspace (20" - "tab" - 12" - enter to get a 20x12 rectangle for example).
I have gone through every option section; I have tried rebooting my computer; I have looked at the settings for the mouse and nothing seems to do anything.
I'd like to not have to manually update every base/projected view to see what's included on an idw...

I want to loft two rectangles using arc as a path , but i cant , 1st i cant draw the arc in 3d so i draw it in "Front" view , then i cant loft the rectangles using that arc as an path -"The selected entities are not valid" , maybe because i draw the arc in "Front"(bottom left), but i cant draw it in 3d?!! When I start drawing a line from a specific point in the drawing and type in the dimensions via DYN - relative coordinates work like a charm, but when I start a rectangle from the same point and type in the dimensions (via DYN) it wont work.
It does not change when I set dynpicoords to 0 or 1. Nothing else happens when I type @ or # or nothing as prefix.
I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
Is there any way I can make exploded dimensions in an old drawing become live dimensions again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I go to draw a box (rectangle or square) and I enter in exact dimensions or coordinates it is 1/16" off. I have checked my ortho (which is drawing straight) and my UCS. What else could it be? I am using Autocad 2014 and only drawing in 2D.
View 9 Replies View RelatedII have been creating rectangles using rec and because it is a polyline I get the "midpoint" nodes which I need to keep. I often have to modify these by increasing their length or shortening them, large numbers of them at times. Currently I have to select each "midpoint", of the rectangle, one at a time in order to change all of their lengths at one time.

I am trying to find a faster way to select the "midpoint" of several rectangles or some other way instead of the individual method that I have been using. I've tried trim, extend, and stretch. Maybe there is another that I am not considering.
Trim removes the bottom line completely and retains only 3 sides so this doesn't work.

Extend does the same thing and stretch works very different than what I am trying to do.

I create a surface. Then add a point file. The Surface boundary shows up but I see no contours or triangles. If I 3drotate and esc from that command I can then see triangles.
I need to show contours, or better yet colors, to provide a good visual of the existing ground.
is there a way to lock the dimensions to aligned dimensions...or a key i could hold while dimensioning that would do that..
i have to dimensions a drawing where theres a lot of aligned dimensions to put and to do it manualy each time takes forever...

Also be sure to pick the 'aligned dimension' method and not the 'linear dimension'. I hope that works in Revit as it does in AutoCAD.

We have a whole bunch of spreadsheets that we use for calculations and parts of those spreadsheets are linked to a ton of CAD Drawings via data links.
We would like to be able to deliver the CAD drawings to the client without having to send our calculation books (just the output tables). In other words, is it possible to embed the table data and remove the excel link for the final delivery?
Using the Roland GX-24 plotter to cut vinyl and the Illustrator print to plotter plug-in, the program refused to cut rectangles. (with the exception of lower case i's) This includes Capital I's, lower case l's, hyphens and rectangles using the rectangle tool.
All other letters have no issue cutting. So long as they're not a single rectangle. This anomaly was experienced using several files, tested on old and new. So its not an issue with the file.
