AutoCad :: What Program Is Best For Presenting A Land Layout In 3D Animation
Feb 8, 2012
I'm currently using Autocad 2012 to design a land layout consisting of contour lines, roads, a restaurant, 2 parking lots, 4 little shops, a common area, and a walking path. The thing is, for the class I need to present my ideas in a better fashion than just looking at a 2D schematic from Autocad. I'm looking for the best program to use to easily construct walls for the shops, have car models in the parking lots, make the grass green, etc, and be able to almost create an animation walking through the site.
With a part that has 6 bends to be made… is it possible to present only 5 bends on one drawing, and the last one on another drawing??
For example:
I have 6 bends to make on “Backliner-01.ipt” and this is what I have to present:
A first drawing, showing 5 of the bends. On my second drawing, hardware is installed. On the third drawing, showing that the last assembly has to be bent. On the last drawing, a final assembly… that has to show all of the parts (not only the assembly's).
I was recently doing a job where I was tethered onto my Macbook Pro. I was using a layout overlay for the project as the images were going into a specific packaging layout. However, everytime I brought up the layout onto the monitor, the program would crash.
Got a question: Before I installed 11.0.1 my Bridge icon would turn to a colored icon when I hovered over it. Now, after the update it simply goes white when I hover over it - as do all the other icons. It seems that there might be a setting for this? Where did I go wrong? I have a Nvidia 7800 card which was updated months ago. As a last ditch effort I updated the latest driver today (4-2-07). (6.14.11.8250)
Reinstalling PS CS4 (11.0) would be a giant pain and eat up a lot of my time. Any suggestions?
I have a need to edit the channels independently (the values in my image mean things numerically rather than just what it looks like visually - so I need to edit the grayscale values in each of the R - G - B - and A channels seperately).
I've searched through google and other forum posts and others bring up the concept of not understanding alpha versus transparency - but I have yet to see an explanation that fully explains what I'm experiencing. The closest was [URL]... But while I saw the exact same symptoms being described, the specific question was never really answered.
While, I'm specifically working with an RGBA image, below is a screenshot of a PNG that demonstrates the exact same behavior or symptom. The screenshot below represents the PNG inside GIMP and PS CS4. BTW, if you'd like to see or play with the image yourself, you can grab the same image at [URL]...
GIMP, interestingly enough loads the PNG as expected - I see the transparency of the image treated as a true alpha channel. In PS CS4 however, the transparency seems to be somehow embedded in the Red - Green - and Blue channels; but NO seperate alpha channel.
I can create the alpha channel through Select - Load Selection - Layer 0 Transparency - and pasting that into a newly created alpha channel - but the color channels still have the transparency mixture symptom - rather than showing the JUST the color component of that channel. (Note the channel differences of the GIMP's Red Channel versus PS's Red Channel - Said in another way, the yellow ball in the upper left of the image should have a red value of 255, so the Red Channels grayscale upper left ball should be white like it is in GIMP, rather than Gray as it is in PS).
I haven't found quite the right explanation. As best as I have gleened "Alpha", which can be applied to any kind of channel, typically is in reference to transparency - and is applied as a document-whole transparency (as opposed to transparencies applied at a layer level - such as a layer mask).
I have a document where the text as been coverted to paths. The document prints fine. However when I save the document as a PDF for distribtion, the text doesn't present properly. Particualry the l's. its only a few lettes but it is enought to make it look terrible.
I am quite new with autoCAD and am catching up pretty well but the problem now is this. I need to make a building plan for a land measuring 100 x 75 ft but I do not know how to draw the scale on my work space using autocad 2012.
OK, I just did a new install of Civil 3D on a clean machine, were might I find the XML Reporting for 2013 so that I can edit the format and percision of the reports.
what happens when we try to export corridor to Land XML file? Do we get design cross sections that surveyors can import in the equipment? I need to export my cl alignment with the design cross sections.
I have bearings and distances but I am wondering if using PLIN is the best method to draw parcels in AutoCad Map 2012. I have a layer of the Townships, Ranges and Sections that I hope to align with the drawings. Most of the time it looks okay meaning they line up and for the most are where they are suppose to be but ever so often I have problems.
I brought a site into a drawing by LandXML which had 35 feature lines in it. How do you get the actual linework of the feature lines to show up in your drawing? It shows them in the site but the linework is not there.
I am fairly new to civil 3d (currently using 2012) and have been tasked with designing a proposed landfill cap. The end goal i am looking to achieve is to dertermin the amount of fill that can fit within a footprint. If approved i would then design a haul road and swales. I understand the basics of grading however i have run in to a few issues while attempting this. Let me describe what i have tried so far.
-Obtained existing contours and created a surface out of this. -Obtained proposed footprint extents -Attempted "grade to elevation" using the footprint to grade up to an elevation using a 3:1 slope. Learned this tool does not work as i expected and abandoned this idea -Attempted "grade to surface" using a 3:1 slope and a top footprint with an assigned elevation.
The final step i believe is creating what i want however the surface is not very "clean". Here is an example of what i mean; [URL]....... Is my feature line not simple enough or is my existing surface perhaps too complex?
I am trying to find where the formatting is for the General Legal Description bearings. I am currently getting an output of NORTH 00° 12' 33" EAST, but would like to eliminate the spaces in the DMS: NORTH 00°12'33" EAST. This is also the case with the delta angle for curves. When I run the Metes and Bounds report, the bearings appear without the spaces. I think that I have changed it before, but I have switched employers since editing the files.
When we try to open/save a file that was started in Land Desktop, we get significant performance slowdowns, lockups, and crashes in Civil 3D 2011. Most of these files only contain simple linework, labels, etc. (no Land Desktop surfaces, alignments, profiles created in project).
We've tested purge, purge regapps, audit, recover, Export to AutoCAD, and AECOBJEXPLODE (which produces errors). WBLOCK is not really an option in this case because we may have to reference multiple projects back to these original Land Desktop files.
I need to determine a limit of rock cut for a land development project. I have created surfaces for my Existing Grade and Top of Rock. Is there any way to determine the limit of rock cut within 25 ft of the existing ground, the volume of rock cut, and show the limit of rock cut on my plan view?
I could drop the Existing Grade elevations by 25 feet, but then how would I create a separate Surface from the intersection of the lowered Existing Grade surface and the Top of Rock Surface?
I had inserted a Land Desktop drawing containing points in to a C3D 2012 drawing. There was a small difference in coordinates. I used Autocad move and rotate to adjust. This was fine because I only needed a visual reference. Now someone wants the information and I need to convert the Aecc points to Civil cogo points.
The problem is that the convertldtpoints command doesn't use the location of the point marker as the coordinates for the converted points. It uses the Northing-Easting stored in the AECC_Point object. Those are the pre-adjustment coordinates.

I'm using C3D 2013. I received a survey drawing (unknown version) from a third party. I tried both xref'ing and inserting as block into my drawing and it was over 7,100' SW from my site. BUT when I copy from 0,0,0 in his drawing and paste 0,0,0 in my drawing, it lands on my site. If I xref my drawing into his drawing, it lands on his survey information. Why doesn't his drawing land on my site when I xref or insert as block?
Typically at my company we rotate our drawing orientation under the Projects - Drawing Setup - Orientation. Rotate the drawing to a known basis of bearings. Then we label the boundary and the bearings are rotated to match the basis of bearings without having to rotate the drawing in model space. Just reciently my labels havne't been holding the orientation. So when I add a static or dynamic label the bearing reads as though my orientation is due north. BUT, when I loook at the line priperties, the bearing is correct, as it has held the orientation.
I have downloaded the SSURGO file from Web Soil Survey. They are in .shp files, I have imported the spatial files into AutoCad Map 3d 2012. My goal is to create a Topology so that I can detemine the soil type and acres of parcels of land.
When I click on the polygon in my drawing it is a closed polygon with double line or overlapping lines and it does has object data but it is part of the line not a point as I am used to.
I have a bit of a problem with Autocad map 3d 2012. When i try to insert a scale bar or a north arrow or any other carthographic element i simply can't find the layout elements that are supposed to be in layout tools tab. I've done a lot of research online and can't come up with anything.
