AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Land Desktop Files Crash When Opened?
Oct 9, 2013When I try to open a LDD file with C3D, the file locks up and won't open. It appears to happen only when the LDD file has an alignment defined.

View 8 RepliesWhen we try to open/save a file that was started in Land Desktop, we get significant performance slowdowns, lockups, and crashes in Civil 3D 2011. Most of these files only contain simple linework, labels, etc. (no Land Desktop surfaces, alignments, profiles created in project).
We've tested purge, purge regapps, audit, recover, Export to AutoCAD, and AECOBJEXPLODE (which produces errors). WBLOCK is not really an option in this case because we may have to reference multiple projects back to these original Land Desktop files.
When converting Land Desktop Points to Civil 3D, it doesn't display point labels, descriptions, elevations, or point numbers. How do I correct this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had inserted a Land Desktop drawing containing points in to a C3D 2012 drawing. There was a small difference in coordinates. I used Autocad move and rotate to adjust. This was fine because I only needed a visual reference. Now someone wants the information and I need to convert the Aecc points to Civil cogo points.
The problem is that the convertldtpoints command doesn't use the location of the point marker as the coordinates for the converted points. It uses the Northing-Easting stored in the AECC_Point object. Those are the pre-adjustment coordinates.

Typically at my company we rotate our drawing orientation under the Projects - Drawing Setup - Orientation. Rotate the drawing to a known basis of bearings. Then we label the boundary and the bearings are rotated to match the basis of bearings without having to rotate the drawing in model space. Just reciently my labels havne't been holding the orientation. So when I add a static or dynamic label the bearing reads as though my orientation is due north. BUT, when I loook at the line priperties, the bearing is correct, as it has held the orientation.

View 1 Replies View Relatedgetting Civil 3D to crash every time the Map Task Pane is opened from the Ribbon? if you type in MAPWSPACE, then it seems to "initiaite" it to work ok, but if you go right to the Ribbon: View tab > Palettes panel, and click it on there, it crashes every time.
View 1 Replies View Related I've upgraded to CorelDraw X6 but I need the files I make to be openable in Coreldraw 10. When saving I use the drop down box and choose the option for 10 and if they are opened again in X6 before they are opened in 10 they are fine, but when these files are opened in 10 they crash and the file gets wiped (when opened again it's just a blank page).
A not so obvious box that needs ticking? An option I have missed somewhere?
Is it because the version i have is 64bit? Or is it just not possible to downsave files properly anymore, is 10 just too old now?
there is a way to convert land desktop aecc points to cogo points and use the full description?
I do not have access to the ldt files nor to the Descriprion keys file. It would be nice if there was an option to preserve full descriptions when converting (that would be just too simple).
My studio has been using the Photoshop COM interop to do some automation which has worked really well for us, but just today I got this COM exception:
System.OutOfMemoryException: Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {99AEA70E-4D13-44BF-A878-33345CBFCBC8} failed due to the following error: 8007000e Not enough storage is available to complete this operation. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000E (E_OUTOFMEMORY)).
which was weird since I wasn't anywhere close to being OOM...my system has 32 GB and i still had 16+GB free and ~600 GB of space on my HDD.
In any case, after that event, when I start Photoshop, the UI is active for maybe about 5 seconds before it becomes unresponsive and sits frozen for about 3 or 4 minutes before it goes 'magic-desktop'....crashes with no errors or dialogs.
Any runtime logs that Photoshop CS6 generates where I can look for more info on what might be going on?
OK, I just did a new install of Civil 3D on a clean machine, were might I find the XML Reporting for 2013 so that I can edit the format and percision of the reports.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having troubles using Photoshop CS6 (64-bit) on Windows 7 (x64). After deselecting the move tool, or any tool that has move capabilities, such as the various transform tools, Photoshop crashes to the desktop.
I have reset all preferences by holding CTRL + ALT + SHIFT while starting Photoshop and by manually deleting the preferences files. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop in its entirety. These attempts to solve the issue didn't change anything regarding the crashing. I am using the latest drivers for my graphics cards.
I would like to export feature lines out as land xml file. Can this be done in Civil 3D or is there another work around.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI brought a site into a drawing by LandXML which had 35 feature lines in it. How do you get the actual linework of the feature lines to show up in your drawing? It shows them in the site but the linework is not there.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new to civil 3d (currently using 2012) and have been tasked with designing a proposed landfill cap. The end goal i am looking to achieve is to dertermin the amount of fill that can fit within a footprint. If approved i would then design a haul road and swales. I understand the basics of grading however i have run in to a few issues while attempting this. Let me describe what i have tried so far.
-Obtained existing contours and created a surface out of this.
-Obtained proposed footprint extents
-Attempted "grade to elevation" using the footprint to grade up to an elevation using a 3:1 slope. Learned this tool does not work as i expected and abandoned this idea
-Attempted "grade to surface" using a 3:1 slope and a top footprint with an assigned elevation.
The final step i believe is creating what i want however the surface is not very "clean". Here is an example of what i mean; [URL]....... Is my feature line not simple enough or is my existing surface perhaps too complex?
I am trying to find where the formatting is for the General Legal Description bearings. I am currently getting an output of NORTH 00° 12' 33" EAST, but would like to eliminate the spaces in the DMS: NORTH 00°12'33" EAST. This is also the case with the delta angle for curves. When I run the Metes and Bounds report, the bearings appear without the spaces. I think that I have changed it before, but I have switched employers since editing the files.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I work on a site I need to identify several different situations and organizing those situations is getting hard, how do you do it?
The land usually has multiple soil types, a max of 4 types A, B, C, D
I also need to track the impervious, grass and tree areas going to an unknown number of outfalls
The impervious area can be broken down into structures, roadway, parking lots, sidewalks and other
Also you need to have this information for your existing conditions and your impervious conditions.
Usually I just delineate everything and hatch them with a layer like C-IMPV-A for proposed impervious soil type A
I have also tried creating parcels to represent the areas delineated, but when you get a couple hundred parcels it gets confusing.
I need to determine a limit of rock cut for a land development project. I have created surfaces for my Existing Grade and Top of Rock. Is there any way to determine the limit of rock cut within 25 ft of the existing ground, the volume of rock cut, and show the limit of rock cut on my plan view?
I could drop the Existing Grade elevations by 25 feet, but then how would I create a separate Surface from the intersection of the lowered Existing Grade surface and the Top of Rock Surface?

I'm using C3D 2013. I received a survey drawing (unknown version) from a third party. I tried both xref'ing and inserting as block into my drawing and it was over 7,100' SW from my site. BUT when I copy from 0,0,0 in his drawing and paste 0,0,0 in my drawing, it lands on my site. If I xref my drawing into his drawing, it lands on his survey information. Why doesn't his drawing land on my site when I xref or insert as block?

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe following code will explain how it works:
[CommandMethod("RenderFromFile")]public static void RenderFromFile(){string dwgPath = @"C:TempRender.dwg";string imagePath = @"C:TempRender.png";Document doc = Application.DocumentManager.Open(dwgPath);RenderToFile(doc, imagePath);}
[Code]....
The command RenderFromFile will render the 3D drawing file at C:TempRender.dwg (see this file from attachment), and then write the output image to Render.png at the same folder. The rendered image is on the top view and has visual materials.
The command RenderCurrentView will render the current open 3D drawing, then write the output image to C:TempRender.png. The rendered image is on 3D view and does not have visual materials.
Both two commands call the same shared method RenderToFile(), but their output images are different. I don't know why they are different?
Method RenderToFile is a simplified version from Kean's code. I try to make the code short and simple to easily solve the problem.
My team is using AutoCAD 2014 and multiple people have noticed that while they're working, when they try to save the file it pops up a message saying the file is read only.
Multiple people on our team has had this issue and it only started recently. (We've had it installed a few months now).Could it be the new file tabs feature in 2014?
How can I control the number of opened files in AutoCad-2010 ? How to do that . I have to work in 2 files Simultaneously.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just starting working with AutoCad 2014 Lt....and its great. I have a problem with the interface when I have two drawings open at the same time that are xref'd...the screen starts flashing, mouse dragging and the operations are very slow. Example,. if I have the plan open and the elevations open in two separate model space drawings but the plan is xref'd into the elev for reference. Is this an issue for others? What is the fix? This didn't happen in our older ACAD 2005. It is distressing, and I thought it was a server issue, but if I work off my station only, it still happens.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with some step files I recieved from a vendor for an assembly. Basically what is happening is I download the step file. Then bring it into Mechanical Desktop. When brought into Mechanical desktop, it is downloaded in metric where my entire assembly is in standard/english format. What I did when I had Inventor 2011 is bring the step file into inventor, go to document settings and switch the unit to inch from mm. Then save the step file and when I brought it into Mechanical desktop it was in the correct unit and scale.
Now with 2012 Inventor, when I bring the step file in, it is automatically in english/standard format. So I save the step file out and try to open it in Mechanical desktop only to have the file back into mm and 25.4x the actual size it should be.
how to save the step file out like in 2011 to make sure the unit is saved in the correct format. This is extremely aggrevating and waste of time. I would have had the part reverse engineered by now if i quit trying to use the vendors standard step files.
This problem doesn't only happen with a certain vendor's drawings either, it goes for all step files I have recieved since getting Inventor2012.
acad 2012 is creating ghost files on my desktop. How do I stop the creation of them? The files are greyed out and are titled "Drawing2.dwl2".
I remember having this annoyance, for me at least, a year or so ago but don't remember how I made them disappear.
I was working on my project today when the window popped up telling me to reload my pavement file. When I reloaded the file, the reference said it was unresolved. I tried to open that file directly, but it would not open.
