AutoCad :: Unable To Save Across Network?
Jul 11, 2012
I am currently using Acad 07 on Windows 7. I save my drawings to another pc on our network. Yesterday said pc was updated to windows 7 and now I am unable to save. I get an error message reading:- Unable to save drawing Location/file name.dwg, drawing saved to drawing/filename.tmp. What is a .tmp? I can save the files on my computer then move them over but it isn't ideal

I have some AutoCAD 2013 users in our Fabrication department who are having problems saving R12 dxf files to a network location. When they try to save they get a message that states "Unable to save to drawing N:Bend|5130Xfilename.dxf. Drawing saved to N:Bend|5130Xsav6A0D.tmp" (See attachment for actual message)
The temp file does not get saved either. They can save R12 dxf files locally and to other network locations. They are able to save 2013 dwg and dxf files with no issues. This problem just affects R12 dxf files which they need for programming pressbrakes.
They can save to 2013 dxf files and then overwrite with R12. After that they cannot save again and get the message again.
User workstations vary.
All are Dell Precision workstations and laptops
Windows 7 x64 with 16 GB of RAM
All are running Nvidia Quadro graphics cards with certified drivers

I have created an action where I do some stuff with the picture and then I save the file to a shared network drive while using the "Save for Web" function. While recording the action everything works fine but when I run the action I got a error that Photoshop can't save the file because the Path does not exist / Is unavailable. It is stuck while he want's to run the "Save for Web" part of the action.
I tried the mapped path (Z:files...) and the UNC path (\fileservusersdjametfiles...) but both did not work.I am using Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7 Professional (64Bit).

I am running AutoCAD MEP 2012. I am unable to open drawings that are stored on a network drive. I continue to get a "Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0X0000 Exception at f5bfaad0h" and AutoCAD closes. If I copy that same file to the computer and make it local, it opens without any problem. All files local open just fine. Also, I am able to open the same drawing on the network from multiple other computers.
I have tried to repair AutoCAD and check all network settings on the computer, but everything appears correct.

We recently updated our servers and I am having trouble accessing files through Autocad. For example, if I try to open a drawing or attach an xref I select the drive and can see the folders in it but can not open any. I have no problem opening these folders through windows explorer so I do not think it is a permission issue. I am the only one in the office running 64bit on windows 7 (everyone else is on xp) We are using Civil 3D 2010.

Is there ever a reason the option to add pipes or structures to an existing network would be grayed out? A colleague of mine called a week ago and wanted to add a manhole to the end of a pipe network where he had a clean out.
I didn't see his drawing but over the phone he tells me the button to add pipes and structures was grayed out. It wasn't giving him the option to add both or either or.

We are going from XP to Win7 shortly. This means re-installing our C3D. Is there a way to save our Workspace settings to our network so we don't have to go thru the hassle of putting everything back together piecemeal?

I have a pipe network, all the structures and pipes are connected properly. When I use the grip to move my structure, it will not move. I have to move both pipes then the manhole to relocate my structure. Shouldn't I be able to move the manhole and the pipes come with it? Instead I am having to make 3 grip edits and then reconnect the structures and pipes.

In ACA2012, we cannot use the Publish command to overwrite an existing DWF file of same name, for instance you publish a set, then need to re-publish and overwrite the earlier version. We get an error message that the DWF is currently open in another program...when it clearly is not open anywhere and Design Review is closed. We have several servers running different versions of microsoft server, but the results are the same to any of them.
We do NOT get an error message when publishing/overwriting to the C: drive, only a network path. Also, if we use the Print command instead of Publish, well it only does the current page but it DOES allow the networked DWF to be overwritten.
I am puzzled by what could be the difference in that Publish will not overwrite a networked DWF file yet Print will?
This has never happened to us in previous versions of ACA or Design Review.

I have three PC's that have a problem saving files to a Gigabit NAS. All three started having this problem this morning. It has been working like a champ for 3 months. Open a picture in PS and try saving the pic to another format on the network drive.
PC 1 I get " Could not save as pathfilename because of a a program error. PC2 I get " Could not save as pathfilename because of a a disk error. PC 3 I get " Could not save as pathfilename because the file could not be found. Now I created a new Volume on the NAS and I can now save to that new Volume.
I can read from existing files on the NAS and save in every other CS3 app. Funky. I can save the PS file locally and on other PC shared network folders. I did the 3 finger salute for prefs and did the font CMAP Base thing that was suggested. I changed the memory allocation. Removed mapping and remapped. Virus and spyware free Any ideas?

The program doesn't freeze, the system doesn't hang, I get no "Can't save..." error message; the "Save" command just seems to do nothing. I can save to my Desktop fine, but across the network...?
InDesign and Photoshop will save wherever I tell them to, local or remote, but Illustrator apparently just doesn't want to be cooperative.
I'm running Creative Cloud on OS X (10.8.5) across a MS Server 2008 (I believe) network.

I am using Civil 3D 2013. I work in an office where we have a few different flavors of Autocad (LT, MEP, regular vanilla AutoCAD etc...) and versions (2010 LT, 2011, 2012, 2013).
For the most part there isn't much inter-office drawing coordinate that has to happen, but there is the occasional project where multiple disciplines (Structural, Mechanical and Civil Site) have to share drawings.
The specific problem I am having is when I share my 2013 Civil 3D drawing with a user using 2011 MEP. He gets the typical rectangle for the proxy objects (in my case, my pipe networks for sanitary and storm drain). We've tried downloading and installing various object enablers, but there doesn't seem to be one for a 2013 to 2011 scenario. So I setup my parts to be on layers that he can just turn off. HOWEVER... the actual pipe network (not the structures, parts, labels etc... the network itself) ends up on layer 0. For this specific project, I do the old (ssget "x" '((8 . "0")) search to select all objects on layer 0, add those objects to a selection set (pselect), then in my modify objects dialog I filter for pipe networks, then change the layer to something other then 0.
While this is a workaround that works for me, what I really want to know is if there is a way that I can change the default layer that the network (again, not pipes, structures or text, the actual network) so I don't have to use the workaround. Any thoughts?
P.S. It's killing me that I had to create a new Autodesk login and now all my AutoCAD "street cred" is lost

Saving InDesign files to a network location seems to take an extremely long time during which I am unable to do anything else inside InDesign.I know that this has been an issue for me for at least 2 weeks (since March 3, 2014, possibly earlier). I am not certain whether I have updated InDesign since then, but have consistently been experiencing this same problem.
Today I ran some tests (all using the same ~20MB file).
Save from InDesign to network location: 12 seconds
Save from InDesign to desktop: <2 seconds
Copy file (in Windows Explorer) from desktop to network: <2 seconds
Copy file from network to desktop: <2 seconds
I know I can work on the file locally and copy my saved versions out at the end of the day, but this was not necessary before, and I don't know what changed to make this take so much longer than it used to.
Current system configuration: InDesign 9.2 x64 running on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit with 16GB RAM and a Xeon 3.6GHz processor.

I have recently installed Corel X6 and have found it to be painfully slow when opening files. At first I had thought it might be a network issue so I copied the file to a local drive and experienced the same problem.
The file is only 819Kb but it takes about 3 minutes to open the file. When I first select the file in the File Open dialogue window Corel just hangs for about 1 minute. It finally responds then takes a further 2 minutes to process and open the file.
I have turned off my antivirus software as I thought this might be a file scanning issue but still the same result.

From the start, I wasn't able to save to jpeg without getting a dcm extension (no jpg extension). However, if I saved to Multi-picture Format, I would get the familiar .jpg and everything worked fine for a while. This morning I cannot find a file format in "save as" that results in the .jpg file extension.

Am using Autocad LT 2013 on Windows platform using Fusion Ware on a Mac Pro. This is a company owned computer and all files are saved to a server. This problem began occurring after we returned to work on Jan 2. I will be working in drawing and save regularly. Additionally autosave is set for 5 minute intervals.
Several times a day I get a message saying
"Unable to save drawing\serverfilename.dwg. Drawing saved to \serverfilenamesavF676.tmp."
When I check the folder where the drawing is supposed to be there is a "filename.dwl" and the "sav676.tmp." files but the original .dwg doesn't show up in the list.
If I save as the file to my desktop it is fine, but I then have to move it back to the server per company policy. This is extremely tedious to say the least. This happens several times a day so far.
The IT guy has twice reset the permissions for the Directory so the files are not Read Only (although when I check the main client folder and sub folders from my computer the Read Only option is checked and I cannot change this).
Another Autocad user in the office, LT 2013, says this has happened to him but only occasionally.
Also, several times I have noticed an alert pop-up that says something about "Unable to map network drive G:\" but clicking on the notice just expands the message. G Drive is the primary server in our office. The only PC computers in our office are used for Autocad, the rest are all Apple products and the IT tech is a Mac guy.

I have a .dwg file and when I try to save as 2010 DXF format, I get the following message:
"Unable to save to drawing c:projectslayout.dxf.
Drawing saved to c:projectssavF29D.tmp"
If I try to "save as" in DWG format with a different name in the same directory then it works. Also, there is no "savF29D.tmp" anywhere. I need the drawing DXF format.

Have an easy file open and am trying to save a copy with a new name and Inventor either does nothing or crashes. Original full path and file name contains 243 characters (counting from drive letter to extension) New one will have 247 characters.
This is supposedly within the path/file name character limits for windows 7, which according to the ms website is 260 minus one for the null character at the end making it 259. So I am over 10 characters shy of the limit dictated by the OS.
Is inventor placing a stricter limit on the number of characters in the full path/file name? If so, why?
Obviously, working up the tree and adjusting upper level folder names is not an option as that would break every link in every assembly at that level or lower.

I recently started having trouble when I try to save a file. It started about an hour ago. I have been working on this file all day with no problems. What is happening is when I do a quick save or a save as I get an error that says "unable to save to drawing F:NNorthview SchoolsHS - Phase 5, 6 & 7NH-EPSF1A13.dwg. Drawing saved to F:NNorthview SchoolHS - Phases 5,6 & 7savACD.tmp"
If I do a save as It will say the same thing but it will delete the existing file that I tried to save over. I have to do another save as to get the file back. I think this is specific to this drawing because I have not had it happen with any other file.
I ran Recover on the two exref files as well as the working file. No errors are found. I have purged all the files and tried again but it did not work.

For the past couple of weeks I have been getting a message that autocad cannot save dwg because it is being accessed by another session. This doesn't happen everytime I try to save, and it happens in differant files. After hitting save 4 or 5 times it will usually let me save the dwg. but then I have to go into the folder and clean out all the temp files. I know that none of the other users in my office have the dwg open when this happens so I'm at a loss as to whats causing it.

I am using Map 3D 2013 on a Windows 7 machine and am getting the following error when I try to do any save, q save or saveas: "One or more objects in this drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."
I was working in this file yesterday and received the same error at one point. I shut CAD down and did something for a few hours before I came back and everything operated normally for a little while. I was able to make edits and save. But then this morning the error is back. Even upon opening the file and immediately trying to qsave it will give me the error. I have run an audit, purged, tried to copy everything out and save to a new file. Nothing appears to be working.
We do run network licenses and I am pulling my drawings from a server, nothing is local to my machine.

Randomly, a few times a week, I get an error in AutoCAD LT 2012 when trying to save a dwg file. It says
"Unable to save to drawing {filename} as it is being accessed by another session. Drawing saved to {filename}.tmp." The file then turns into Read Only and says
"Drawing file is write protected."
We have to do a Save As to a different filename in order to regain functionality.
