AutoCad :: Saving Blocks That Earlier Versions Can Use
Apr 5, 2011
Im currently using Autocad 2008 and am in the process of creating blocks for a friend who is using 2005, i have loads that need converting or writing so that they can be opened in 2005.
I have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2013. Now I have one AutoCAD 2013 and five copies of AutoCAD LT 2009. A strange problem started ovccuring after starting using of AutoCAD 2013. Quite a lot of files done with LT 2009 are not opening in AutoCAD 2013. When you tru to open this file, nothing happens and a blank new drawing is opened by AutoCAD 2013.
I have DWG TrueView from release 2010 to 2012. These files opened perfectly well in 2010 & 2012. So I downloded DWG TrueView 2013 and installed it to check whter my AutoCAD 2013 installation was faulty. These files do not open in DWG TrueView 2013 also.
I tried exporting the file to DXF in LT 2009 and then tried to open the DXF file in 2013. It gave a message that it could not read the file. The odd fact is that it is not happening with every file done in LT 2009. Some open and some do not.
In my opinion, this seems to be a serious bug in 2013. Any body else experinecing this? I am unable to attach any file as all the files are larger than 2 MB even after zipped and I cannot upload such a big file here.
I received files in 2010 format which I converted to 2007 using true view. Now when I open in 2013 I get a message "file needs recovery" I recover and save. when I open again I get the same message in 2013.
I currently have Photoshop Elements ver. 10,11, &12 on 2 computers. I have done the requested conversions to use older Elements photos. Is there a program or feature that will let me use any of these saved images on any computer, only on version 12, or are these images just lost? I have several CD/DVD sets of saved images that I am not able to access and have I lost the use of these images? Further, why does every version of Photoshop Elements need to save older images and "convert" them for the latest product version? I have used 8 different versions since Elements first came out and this problem of conversion has been a source of trouble and confusion from the start. Further, there is the problem of dispensary in the forwarded images and the "lost" connections to images.

I've recently become aware that other people are getting an error message when opening many of my my psd files if they are on earlier versions of PS and also on PSE, (including the latest version). The message is:
This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
Three options follow: Flatten Cancel Keep Layers
When 'keep layers' is selected the file opens as normal. However, people with much earlier version (CS version 8) don't get the option to keep layers, and the layers are flattened when the document is opened.
I still have CS5 on my mac, and I find that if I take my finished file into CS5 and save it there, the customer does not get the message above, and the file behaves as it should. Those on very early version of PS can also open the files without any issues.
I've been using CS6 since it was released and have had to delve through all my files and save them in CS5. Not every file is affected and I've been unable to find a common thread.
It seems that even when the document was from a 2010 version, if I open it, and save it, it automatically saves it to the 2014 version cad.Is there a setting on Autocad LT 2014 that allows me to automatically save to an earlier version of CAD (2010) instead of the 2014 whenever I hit SAVE.
How do you save down to earlier version? It doesn't let me when I do a save as and click on version I want. Just gives me an error message and shuts autocad down.
I have to save 2011 drawing down to autocad 2004. I sure hope its possible. It always has been with earlier versions.
Having trouble with AutoCAD 2012 when saving to earlier versions? I can't save it down to any other version except for 2012, without the system crashing completely.
Also, from time to time we get the crash when editing MText.
I have Revit MEP 2012 and created a small guest house in this program. I wanted to add some features using Revit Architecture 2011that are not available in the MEP program. When I tried to bring the files up in the Revit architecture program I get an error message that the drawing was created in a later version of Revit. Is there any way to save the MEP file back to an earlier version of Revit like one could do with Autocad drawings?
Does anyone know where I can purchase an earlier version of Photoshop? Maybe PS 7.0. Because I simply cannot afford the latest version (CS2 I think). I use 7.0 a lot at school and really like it. If I could get CS2, I would but it would take me ages to save up for it on what I'm earning.
I had autocad 2013 but it was infected with a virus so i was obliged to install 2012 version. problem is that all my files are saved as 2013 and would not open in 2012. How to save all files at once to older version?
I was just wondering if there is some way that civil 3d (2011) is capable of saving down to a 2004 version and still be able to view the civil 3d object. I know I can do this with 2007 version but I think that any ACAD version earlier than 2007 is not capable of recognizing the civil 3d objects.
Can prior versions of inventor access current versions of vault? As in, can Inventor 2010 access vault 2013? Or does it have inventor 2013 and vault 2013?
I'm trying to save blocks to a new tool palette and it won't let me.
I'm doing everything I've always done. Right click on the tool palette, click "new palette" then change the name.
the new tab appears on the tool palette. I go then to drag the block from my drawing to the newly made palette.
As I drag over the tool palette with block, the black line appears on the palette as it should, but when I drop it to the palette its not there. I can drag and drop that same block to any of the other tabs on the tool palette whether it's a default one or one that I've made previously. I've done this process a thousand times, it always worked without a problem. All of a sudden it doesn't. I havent made any changes to my pc or os except for the microsoft updates.
I've also tried to load the blocks from design center to the new palette, no success!
I've checked to make sure tool palettes are saving to the right file....

I'm running Windows XP Pro, never had any issues until now.
Is there an patch or update to fix this
Is there something I'm missing
It's very frustrating, when you can't work on a project the way your used to
Having trouble with AutoCAD 2012 when saving to earlier versions? I can't save it down to any other version except for 2012, without the system crashing completely. It seems to be files that have aerial xrefs in them.
Also, from time to time we get the crash when editing MText.
I would love to be able to customize Inventor 2013's user interface to make it look more like the older version of Inventor. You can do that with AutoCad Mechanical. You simply change the view to "AutoCad classis" and those annoying "panel bars" go away and you get a pull down screen.
Currently using Autocad 2011. What are the advantages of using Sectionplane over the earlier Section command?Alternatively, point me towards a SIMPLE(!) tutorial or book that will explain how to use Sectionplane.
I am using Autocad LT 2012 on Windows XP at my office computer. I Save a file in an earlier version e.g. 2004 or 2007 and email to home computer, Autocad LT 2008 on Windows Vista. The file will not open. Message is that the file has been created by a later version. THis has not been my experience with earlier versions.
using AutoCAD '10. I have a free trial of 2013 to preview before buying and I'm doing some freelance work with an opportunity to be hired full time. The comany I am working for has a pen set that they sent to me in an e-mail. In order to send PDF's of my work back I must use this pen set. The pen files are from an earlier version of AutoCAD- 2007 and are attachments in an e-mail.
Autodesk should provide an easy way to save drawings back to an earlier product release, like an online converter utility for clients etc... I understand that people need to be pushed to get newer products, however by not having an easy way to change a file, it really punishes those who do stay current and get each release. For many years now I find myself drafing in a current release of Civil3d to utilize the latest features that improve work flow, then having to waste a lot of time converting projects back to each clients file requirement.
When choosing an Import-preset with "Make a Second Copy To" selected and the external drive is not connected (e.g. working on location, ejected ext. drive temporarily), LR starts the copy process to primary location first. Only after copying LR notices that second copy location is offline, displays a warning dialog and won't start preview rendering until warning dialog is dismissed. But user might have left his computer to grab a coffee since rendering eats up CPU power.
Result, Problem:
1. Processing time is lost if user comes back to computer after intentionally taking a break only to discover that computer will be slowed down under processing load again. 2. Files have to be backed up manually. If "eject card after import is selected", user even has to re-insert card again.
Solution A: When Import with backup to external drive is selected, check and warn immediately if drive is not connected. a) Import button is greyed out with a little red ! or some sort of indicator. User is asked to connect drive or skip backup this time or b) Warning dialog is displayed immediately after clicking Import button. Options as in a) are given. Disadvantage: user might miss warning, if sound turned off and turns away from computer immediately after clicking.
Solution B: Allow drive re-connect and copying later 1. Copy to primary location 2. Copy to second location, skip if drive not connected 3. Render previews 4. Display message "The following files could not be copied..." with added new feature "Please connect drive, then selct "copy now" button.I am using Lightroom 3.6 on Mac OS 10.7.2
Been working on a file with a few layers, then the power goes out so my computer "crashes". When I reboot my computer, I am unable to open the file I was working on earlier and instead, get the message "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." The file is still .psd and I don't have a preview for the file anymore:
I installed Photoshop CS6 - 64 bit, but Bridge keeps opening up photos in my CS5 that is still on my computer. How do I change this so that it will open the photos in Photoshop CS6?
From my C# windows forms app, I want to launch AutoCAD 2006 and 2007..This code is working with 2006 :
Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.AcadApplication acadApp = new Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.AcadApplicationClass(); I'm using references to Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop + .Common version 16.1.63.0.
I want to launch AutoCAD 2007, too. So, I added a reference to AutoCAD 2007.Type Library from COM. And now I'm getting a lot of compiling errors :
Error 448 The type 'Autodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.AcadApplicationClass' exists in both 'd:CIMS.NETCimsWinClientinDebugAutodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.dll' and 'c:WINDOWSassemblyGAC_MSILAutodesk.AutoCAD.Interop17.0.54.0__eed84259d7cbf30bAutodesk.AutoCAD.Interop.dll'
What should I do to launch different versions of AutoCAD from C#, based on user choice ?
I installed the trial version of autocad 2012 yesterday and it worked fine when it stated after installation, but today i am unable to start it my old MEP 2008 starts up instead , i do not have the option to start 2012 there are no autocad 2012 short cuts on desk top ( I'm sure there was after instalation ? ) and it isnt in the start menu or the open with menu, i can see autocad 2012 in the program files but no exe files, how to recover the desktop short cuts ?
I am having an issue at my office when I open or save a drawing (I'm using Acad 2013) people using 2011 Acad Architecture who later access the file cannot use their tool palette or detail component manager. The tool palette will pop up, but when they try to drag something out of it, there is an unspecified error. The detail component manager in Architecture will not even pop up for some reason.
