Photoshop :: CS5 - Power Went Out - Can't Open File Working On Earlier
Dec 7, 2012
I use photoshop CS5 on windows 7.
Been working on a file with a few layers, then the power goes out so my computer "crashes". When I reboot my computer, I am unable to open the file I was working on earlier and instead, get the message "Could not complete your request because it is not a valid Photoshop document." The file is still .psd and I don't have a preview for the file anymore:
Is there anyway to recover the file?

Just recently I tried to open my Photoshop CS2 and received a message saying cannot open no longer supported by PowerPC. What does this mean? Is this version officially defunct? If so what can I do so I won't have to buy Creative Suite again.

I have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2013. Now I have one AutoCAD 2013 and five copies of AutoCAD LT 2009. A strange problem started ovccuring after starting using of AutoCAD 2013. Quite a lot of files done with LT 2009 are not opening in AutoCAD 2013. When you tru to open this file, nothing happens and a blank new drawing is opened by AutoCAD 2013.
I have DWG TrueView from release 2010 to 2012. These files opened perfectly well in 2010 & 2012. So I downloded DWG TrueView 2013 and installed it to check whter my AutoCAD 2013 installation was faulty. These files do not open in DWG TrueView 2013 also.
I tried exporting the file to DXF in LT 2009 and then tried to open the DXF file in 2013. It gave a message that it could not read the file. The odd fact is that it is not happening with every file done in LT 2009. Some open and some do not.
In my opinion, this seems to be a serious bug in 2013. Any body else experinecing this? I am unable to attach any file as all the files are larger than 2 MB even after zipped and I cannot upload such a big file here.

I have just installed CS5, and all components work except for Photoshop, which will not open. I am on a new Macbook Air running Mountain Lion 10.8.5 with 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5. The error message reads: "You can't open the application "Adobe Photoshop CS5.1" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I have already tried reinstalling and deleting the library file: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist and restarting. What can I do?

I have Photoshop CS3. it was working perfectly. Today both the File > New and File > Open do nothing. Dragging a photoshop file onto the program does not open it. Creating a new document brings up the dialogue but clicking ok does not create a new document. Nothing happens.

I am trying to make a script file to open a drawing and run a lisp routine. They both work independently just fine, the script file will open the all of the files fine... and the lisp is in the startup suite and works in all the files. But when I tell the script file to open the first drawing then run the lisp it hangs trying to open the next file after running the lisp. I have Filedia set to 0, but the message I get when it goes to open the next is "No canvas exists. click New Canvas." (And on top of that... Filedia even set back to 1 still does not display the Dialog box anymore, I have to shut down AutoCAD 2012 and start again then it works.) I Have tried several ways, Opening one at a time then run lisp, and open all files first and then try to run lisp (that closes the file after running) and try and run it again in the next... It will only run the lisp one time and then locks up from there.

I have Revit MEP 2012 and created a small guest house in this program. I wanted to add some features using Revit Architecture 2011that are not available in the MEP program. When I tried to bring the files up in the Revit architecture program I get an error message that the drawing was created in a later version of Revit. Is there any way to save the MEP file back to an earlier version of Revit like one could do with Autocad drawings?

I'm having a lively discussion within my department over the use of Power-Clips within multi-page files. We are working with X3 on systems running Win 7. Some believe that files containing images that have been placed in containers become corrupt, leading to exceptionally slow file-open and PDF-publishing times (up to 5 minutes). Is this a culprit?
Do they always need to be Converted to Bitmap after clipping?

when I am trying to synchronizing to central I get a message twice saying "inches to the fourth power." then another message saying "file not saved."so then I find myself having to exit revit and start over with a new local file.
I did notice that when one person had a view or sheet open that I needed to work on that is when the error came up the most. so when the three of us would complete a task we would have to synchronize right after that task e.g. if I had several lights to place on the RCP I would place one light and synchronize and then place another light and synchronize. If I tried to do too much or waited too long to synchronize the error would come up.

I currently have Photoshop Elements ver. 10,11, &12 on 2 computers. I have done the requested conversions to use older Elements photos. Is there a program or feature that will let me use any of these saved images on any computer, only on version 12, or are these images just lost? I have several CD/DVD sets of saved images that I am not able to access and have I lost the use of these images? Further, why does every version of Photoshop Elements need to save older images and "convert" them for the latest product version? I have used 8 different versions since Elements first came out and this problem of conversion has been a source of trouble and confusion from the start. Further, there is the problem of dispensary in the forwarded images and the "lost" connections to images.

PSCS6 with 12.0.4 update. Mac OSX 10.8.2 16GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 543 GB Available
I've recently become aware that other people are getting an error message when opening many of my my psd files if they are on earlier versions of PS and also on PSE, (including the latest version). The message is:
This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
Three options follow: Flatten Cancel Keep Layers
When 'keep layers' is selected the file opens as normal. However, people with much earlier version (CS version 8) don't get the option to keep layers, and the layers are flattened when the document is opened.
I still have CS5 on my mac, and I find that if I take my finished file into CS5 and save it there, the customer does not get the message above, and the file behaves as it should. Those on very early version of PS can also open the files without any issues.
I've been using CS6 since it was released and have had to delve through all my files and save them in CS5. Not every file is affected and I've been unable to find a common thread.

Computers today are including more and more cores. I am looking to upgrade my machine and I have looked at an AMD quad core processor and their new FX 8 core processor. The computers I have looked at are are the same expect the processor (Quad vs 8 core). From my understanding the more cores doesn't mean more speed unless the software can actually use the power. So can Photoshop (CS6) actually use and benefit by having 8 cores than 4?(For that matter can other Creative Suite products also use that much power?)

Seems like a good time for some KPT. That is, the original Kai's Power Tips. Many kudos to Steve and Gurus Network.
Many moons ago, Kai took a few Photoshop tools to the next level. To this day, even as old as they are, a great deal of his work is still relevant.

I know there is a terrific new feature in PS CC (I have used it before!) but I just can't find any explanation on how to to do it!
The question is how do you remove, from an image, a power line, or a telephone line by simply clicking on both ends of those lines in order to remove them?

I have a performance monitor for my graphics card, and it told me that the card used to run at 270MHz for 2D applications under XP.
Now I have loaded Vista, the card is running flat out at 3D performance levels of 666Mhz, all the time. This is despite the fact that I have disabled all the Vista mega graphics.
I manually underclocked the card to 335Mhz, and there is no difference in Vista performance. Especially, there is no difference with Photoshop.
But of course, running at the lower f, the GPU will be consuming less power and have alonger life, etc.
I mean the running temperature dropped a fair old bit!
why Vista is running the card in 3D mode all the time?
possible to get it to stop?

I am trying to make a custom texture for Half-Life 2. The image has to be a power of two, how do I resize it in PS to a power of 2? The image is 2558x1886. Is it possible? I tried resizing it just by typing 1024 in the box but it automatically changed the other value to correspond with my changes. How do I do this? I want it to be 1024x1024.

It seems that even when the document was from a 2010 version, if I open it, and save it, it automatically saves it to the 2014 version cad.Is there a setting on Autocad LT 2014 that allows me to automatically save to an earlier version of CAD (2010) instead of the 2014 whenever I hit SAVE.
