Nov 3, 2012Preferably via a batch function, since I have 50 or 60 files... maybe more, that I've been saving with maximized compatibility.
I tried disabling 'Maximize Compatibility' and re-saving the files, but this didn't result in reduced file sizes as far as I can tell.

Aug 25, 2012I found out that QuickLook in Mac OS X doesn't work properly for PSD documents if the file is saved without Maximize Compatibility feature. If you press space bar, only white canvas appears and not the actual document. I don't want to use this feature because I don't need the compatibility and all the files are much smaller without it. However, as I work with a lot of PSD files I am used to use QuickLook a lot. Is there a way to have maximize compatibility disabled and at the same time be able to use previews with QuickLook?

Jul 30, 2012I would like photoshop to show a file image for the thumbnail (instead the generic lines of type). I know in the pref box I can set the "Maximize File compatibility" to "Always" or Ask, and this will save a flattened version of the file as part of the document. But this greatly increased the file size. I did some checking on 10 layered files ranging from 14Mb to 45Mb. The new file size increased a whopping 35% to 88%. That's a heavy price to pay both on my system here, our back up / archive, CD / DVD burning, and our client systems. I'm in the process of putting together a browser based image library. To render a image thumbnail it shows the generic lines of type if layered (useless), and a image thumbnail only if "File compatibility" is set to Yes. ( Which greatly increases file size, and cost of storage space).
Is there a way to get a image thumbnail without having to set Maximize File Compatibility to Yes? It would seem to me that photoshop should be able to create a small, low res flattened version, at a low quality setting, that would be on the kb in size for a thumbnail. And imbed that into the file, vs the bloated composite. I understand the reason for the composite for file compatibailty with previous versions etc. Just not for creating the thumbnail.
Photoshop Elements :: Using Saved Photos From Earlier Versions
Jan 8, 2014I currently have Photoshop Elements ver. 10,11, &12 on 2 computers. I have done the requested conversions to use older Elements photos. Is there a program or feature that will let me use any of these saved images on any computer, only on version 12, or are these images just lost? I have several CD/DVD sets of saved images that I am not able to access and have I lost the use of these images? Further, why does every version of Photoshop Elements need to save older images and "convert" them for the latest product version? I have used 8 different versions since Elements first came out and this problem of conversion has been a source of trouble and confusion from the start. Further, there is the problem of dispensary in the forwarded images and the "lost" connections to images.

I've recently become aware that other people are getting an error message when opening many of my my psd files if they are on earlier versions of PS and also on PSE, (including the latest version). The message is:
This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose flatten to load composite data as a flattened image.
Three options follow: Flatten Cancel Keep Layers
When 'keep layers' is selected the file opens as normal. However, people with much earlier version (CS version 8) don't get the option to keep layers, and the layers are flattened when the document is opened.
I still have CS5 on my mac, and I find that if I take my finished file into CS5 and save it there, the customer does not get the message above, and the file behaves as it should. Those on very early version of PS can also open the files without any issues.
I've been using CS6 since it was released and have had to delve through all my files and save them in CS5. Not every file is affected and I've been unable to find a common thread.

May 4, 2012I have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2013. Now I have one AutoCAD 2013 and five copies of AutoCAD LT 2009. A strange problem started ovccuring after starting using of AutoCAD 2013. Quite a lot of files done with LT 2009 are not opening in AutoCAD 2013. When you tru to open this file, nothing happens and a blank new drawing is opened by AutoCAD 2013.
I have DWG TrueView from release 2010 to 2012. These files opened perfectly well in 2010 & 2012. So I downloded DWG TrueView 2013 and installed it to check whter my AutoCAD 2013 installation was faulty. These files do not open in DWG TrueView 2013 also.
I tried exporting the file to DXF in LT 2009 and then tried to open the DXF file in 2013. It gave a message that it could not read the file. The odd fact is that it is not happening with every file done in LT 2009. Some open and some do not.
In my opinion, this seems to be a serious bug in 2013. Any body else experinecing this? I am unable to attach any file as all the files are larger than 2 MB even after zipped and I cannot upload such a big file here.

I understand that people need to be pushed to get newer products, however by not having an easy way to change a file, it really punishes those who do stay current and get each release. For many years now I find myself drafing in a current release of Civil3d to utilize the latest features that improve work flow, then having to waste a lot of time converting projects back to each clients file requirement.

May 2, 2013When saving a psd file I can no longer save in "compatibility mode". I'm using a Mac computer with OSX (version 10.8.3) and Photoshop CS6 (version 13.1.2 x64). I just noticed this problem tonight when I tried to bring a psd file into a MUSE project. Now whenever I save a PSD file the menu that asks if I want to save in compatibility mode doesn't appear (it just saves the file). I've reset the preferences and restarted my computer but Photoshop still doesn't give me a compatibility mode option when saving a PSD file.

Also, when I create a new file, say a photomerge panorama, it does not include it into elements even though I have selected the option to do so.

Illustrator :: Change Default Save As PDF Compatibility?
Sep 15, 2013The default for the save as pdf is Acrobat 6. Problem just started of my artboards not translating correctly in the PDF. Preview of the document is also very strange. Saved PDF will open correctly in Ai, but not in anything else including Acrobat and Apple Preview. Changing the compatibility to 8 fixes problem.
I get that I can make a custom preset, action or script, but I really would like to just keep it simple if possible.

May 2, 2012After using "edit in" to take an image from LR3 to CS5, I would then save the edited image by "save as" then add -1 for an edited version, -2 for b&w, -3 for a funky edit, etc. (i.e. name-1 or name-2 would be typical file names) They would all save to lightroom. However, since I upgraded to LR4, I can't do that anymore or it doesn't save the image in LR. This has thrown my whole workflow out of whack - especially since I want to use the album module and need those versions of the images for the album.

May 24, 2012I have a newly downloaded version of AutoCAD LT 2013 that will not save files in older formats for autocad 2004 and 2007. When trying to save the user gets the following error message "One or more objects in the drawing cannot be saved to the specified format. The operation was not completed and no file was created."
I did some searching in the discussion groups and it appears that this is a known/common issue with autcad lt 2013. Is there a work around to saving it in a format that older autocad applications can view?

Photoshop :: Change Default Save Option
Apr 23, 2013I need to open a PDF file that has multiple pages. On "FileOpen" it comes up with Import PDF. There are 21 pages. I know how to highlight all the pages so they all load at once. Do to the volume of work this is impractical. Control+A will not work for this.
1. Is there a way to have "Open" select all, no matter on the number, pages into Photoshop 13.122. On "Save As" it defaults to ".psd". I want it to default to ".jpg". I'm doing several hundred plus.3. Also do not want it to ask me if “OK”, just do the save.
All I want to do is bring in the "PDF's" and brake the multiple files to a singe page ".jpg" or "PNG" file and rename the file just before the save.
Photoshop :: (PDF) Acrobat X Save Optimized Option?
Oct 14, 2012When using the "Save Optimized" dialog in Adobe Acrobat X, we can see that Acrobat strips out a LOT of stuff from the document to make the size as manageable as possible. But I can't for the life of me find the checkbox corresponding to whatever it is that strips LINKS from the document.
When I use the "Save Optimized" option, then try to view the document in Reader, I can see the cursor change to a hand when it hovers over what SHOULD be a link, but there's no url attached to the link anymore. Clicking does nothing. "Save Optimized" kept the link there, but stripped the info of where the link is supposed to take the user.
what to uncheck to make sure links remain intact after a "Save Optimized"?
