I was just wondering if there is some way that civil 3d (2011) is capable of saving down to a 2004 version and still be able to view the civil 3d object. I know I can do this with 2007 version but I think that any ACAD version earlier than 2007 is not capable of recognizing the civil 3d objects.

I have a timeline where the actual movie and music start at 10:00:00:00. Before that, I have a black chart with names on it. There is no audio underneath. But when I export a quicktime file, it pulled the music up front to the first frame of my chart (therefore, the music is too short now and out of sync...) Why is smoke doing that and how can I get Smoke to output the qt correctly?

I want to create a new custom linetype and edit the acad.lin in Notepad. Instead of saving over the original file, I did a save as, but Notepad can only save it as .txt file, not .lin. Whenever I go to load the new linetype file (which is in .txt), it doesn't recognize it, and only shows the .lin files. How do I save .lin file in Notepad?

When i click the save icon, type save, type saveas, type qs i get the attached pop up. It says it wants to delete one of the .bmp images.

I am trying to use a selected surface in a LISP program. I want to be able to save the currently selected surface into a varialble that I can use to control the style of the surface. I would be either selecting the surface by picking the surface from the drawing, or selecting the surface from the list/dialog box of available surfaces. I can't seem to locate a system varialble that holds that info.

When I save the drawing it crashes, only happens in 1 drawing. Recovers fine, but has 1795 errors, but can't save it will still crash, but saves the changes just have to recover again. Have tried Auditing, Purging, -Purge, Proxygrafics set to 0 per something I read when I searched this problem, short of wblocking everything out and putting it into a new drawing? Noticed also I have to type in filedia and set it back to 1 everytime as well.
This company brings things in from everybody, so I'm sure it flooded with all sorts of diffrent apps info. Even though I keep telling them only take what you need they dump the architects, mechanical, landscape, everybodies drawings into 1 design file, not using xrefs, for even the survey is blocked in. Only other thing in this drawing a 1 png file and a pdf. This drawing also contains over 20 layout tabs alot but don't think it causing this problem. If your wondering dwg size its only 4mb.
While working in a drawing xrefs that are attached to that drawing are getting saved "behind the scenes" by AutoCAD.
Specifically one instance was a user changed his working annotative scale while in model space, and this caused all of the attached xrefs to re-save themselves (you could watch the files update in Windows Explorer). He did not save the drawing he was in, just changed the annotative scale. This is worrisome in that we are still between 2011 and 2012 on some projects and I'm worried that a user opens a drawing from a 2011 project in 2012 to look at something and in the background even though he doesn't save that drawing, the base xrefs will get updated to 2012, forcing an unplanned version upgrade for Civil 3D objects.
Every time I save my drawing or it does an Autosave I get the message "Regenerating model" and have to wait 30 seconds for everything to regenerate. There is no reason it needs to do this, is there some way I can turn it off?

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Report manager - Toolbox editor panorama I create a new parcel tool, in this case an xslt type, set up and can run it by right clicking the new tool while still in the panorama box. When I save it using the disk icon at the top of the page it does not show up in the Reports Manager toolbox. I refresh both boxes and still have a no show. Get out of the editor and still nada in the toolbox. I'm using C3D 2012 sp2 Win 7 64 bit. This report and setup acts correctly on a sister machine (32bit) C3D 2012 sp2 Win XP sp3.

I just installed AutoCAD 2010 Civil 3D on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine. When I open a dwg sent from a surveyor I can see and manipulate all the linework, contours, points, and SRF breaklines in the drawing. When I proceed to save the file to my computer and reopen it, the contours and points disappear; however all linework and surface breaklines remain. The two files that I have been working with were saved originally in 2004 and 2007 format. I have tried saving to their respective versions but that has not worked.
The only way that I have been able to retain these objects is by first exploding them and making them into a block and later inserting them into the other drawing. If I try to make them into a block without exploding them they also disappear.
Is there a way to retain all drawing objects directly from saving?
I am trying to make parts in part builder but when I try saving I get the error message "error saving XML file". I tried changing the setting on the files for saving but that doesn't seem to work.

However, when I save it as an ACAD 2007 file and go to open it using ACAD 2007 the spot elevations and all text and symbols associated with them disappear. I can't imagine that you have to have Civil3D to view a Civil3D file. Is there something I can do here?
I did not create a survey database with these points, just imported the .txt file from the field.
I'm trying to do a save as of a previously created and validated part. When I create a new chapter and try to save the part in the new chapter, I get an error message saying "ERROR SAVING COLE FILE". What is a COLE file and why am I getting this error? Could there be a problem because the original part was created in 2013, and now I'm working in 2014?
We recently changed the location of our CAD Standards (such as Pipe Network Catalog). Can I simply copy the Pipe Network Catalog and paste it to the new location and have everything work the same or do I have to do something special?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed the trial version of autocad 2012 yesterday and it worked fine when it stated after installation, but today i am unable to start it my old MEP 2008 starts up instead , i do not have the option to start 2012 there are no autocad 2012 short cuts on desk top ( I'm sure there was after instalation ? ) and it isnt in the start menu or the open with menu, i can see autocad 2012 in the program files but no exe files, how to recover the desktop short cuts ?
Is it a conflict with MEP 2008 ?
I am having an issue at my office when I open or save a drawing (I'm using Acad 2013) people using 2011 Acad Architecture who later access the file cannot use their tool palette or detail component manager. The tool palette will pop up, but when they try to drag something out of it, there is an unspecified error. The detail component manager in Architecture will not even pop up for some reason.

I'm not sure if it is ok to use iLogic for this purpose because I'm afraid my drawings will update to the simple' or 'FEA' versions. This is not what I want. And when using the 'FEA' version, will the FEA information get lost when I switch back to the 'full' or 'simple' versions?
Or in other words: Is it wise to use iLogic for this purpose?
We're an IT company that installed a new NAS for all the data in a architectural office.They are using AutoCad 2011 / 2012 / 2013LT / Revit 2011
Since we installed the new NAS and copied all the data from the old one, opening and saving files takes too long. Sometimes the files hang while regenerating. Saving can take up to more then 4 minutes.
Other applications, for example photoshop, work fine. Copying files from the local disk to the network drive, even moren than 100MB works fine.All computers have windows 7 and the NAS is from Synologie.We tried reinstalling AutoCad but that doesn't solve the problem.We tried setting the savefidelity to 0 but that doesn't solve the problem.
I've been tasked with creating electronic versions of some older AutoCAD drawings for which only hard copies exist. There are a lot of them, so in an effort to expedite the process I thought I would try to scan the drawings and scale them appropriately so that I could just go through and trace the lines. I was planning on doing some sanity-checks of the measurements in the AutoCAD and actual drawings as well. This would save me the time of having to measure the length and angle between each of the lines on the drawing (to which there are wild variations) before drawing them in AutoCAD.
The problem is that these drawings were printed on some really large paper (Ex: 4ft by 6ft), so I can't really use a desktop scanner. My thought was that I could mount the drawings on a wall and take photographs of them using my camera instead. I would use the photographs to trace lines in AutoCAD.
By default Content Center creates the sub-directories 2012, 2011, 2010 etc. to store the generated content center instance files. I have never changed this behavior. Why is it required to maintain these files in the existing separate directories? I don't intend to use a previous release of Inventor once upgraded.
I can see that there is a good possibility of generating the same content center instance in multiple directories ie: if you created a 1/2" nut in the 2011 directory and then there is a good chance of doing it again in the 2012 directory.
I would like to migrate all the files in those directories to my current release 2012 then place them in a common "generic" directory without separation into yearly subdirectories. Would this cause any serious issues?
I know I'll probably be resolving links for a while, but I can deal with that as long as Content Center still works after that. I would of course change the default location to my "generic" location.
we have bought aclt 2013 and we have got a problem with some files created wtih older versions of aclt.When we try to open the file (plan), the file name appears but the progress bar don' t move then the file close.
