I just do not use cad every day. What I have is a big map 36x36 that i would like to lay a grid over making the boxs 8 1/2 x 11's. I have one shp file loaded. The shp file only looks right when zoomed in. This is what the file is used for.
It's basically just points with text beside it. What im wanting for the end product is a map book of the big map. Im using map3d 2011.
How can i make a rim is there any tutorial or at least what command should i learn first?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe just upgraded to ACA 2013. I am trying to get a handle on our office standards. Part of doing that is to try and use as much out of the box as possible and keeping with the AIA layer standards.
I have always used CTB for plotting. I am just now trying to learn about STB for the first time.
In the past, I would change things like a wall styles layer key style and display properties to conform to my CTB in order for it to plot the correct line weights.
I want to be able to leave everything alone as much as possible and use STB. I want to use the AIA layers that ALL objects come in on as they are so that our office can use 100% of the out of the box objects and me not have to worry about changing each style to print properly.
So I am going to make office standard wall, door, window, etc. styles which will mostly be out of the box styles. I also want people to be able to use the detail components. Some editing will take place but only in design, not layer key styles or display. I guess basically what I'm asking is this, is it possible to get things to plot the way I want without having to change anything about them, using a STB plot style and leaving all objects alone to exist on there AIA layers?
Is there a way to stop AutoCAD from making .bak files? I'm going through old drawings (5+ years old) and I don't need them to have .bak files.

I just downloaded AutoCAD lite 2012 to demo it. Right now all the menus are pretty big and you need to hover over them to see even more big buttons like the "line" command.
Is there a way to get it to view differently, more like the guys screen on the tutorial link here: [URL] ........
I like the option of seeing all of those buttons on the screen at once.
im making a cnc milling machine and need to make some things to make. This is a clamp between the magazine and the barrle of a shotgun and i made the drawing in 2d to start whit and then used the EXTRUDE to make it inn to 3d.
As you can see on the top of the object there is no surface and the same goes for the buttom. How can i make a surface?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhat I'm aiming to do is make my blocks (the components in pink) opaque, so that the DIN rail (yellow) which the components are mounted on cannot be seen. Preferably without using the hatch tool because it gets a bit messy and makes the computer run slowly, unless there's a sneaky feature of it I'm not aware of.
What I've been doing so far is just trimming the DIN rail to the right length, but because I very often have to alter the position, add or remove components I have to replace the DIN rail each time.

Im using auto cad 2013 and how i would go about making a 3d object using specific x,y,z coordinates.
I used the line tool with the exact coordinates i require. all the lines connected but don't know how it turns into a 3d object.
Trying to make a simple dynamic block. Its a pipe with a "cylindrical annoying" hatch that gets distorted when i stretch the object.see pics attached.
My guess is that this problem has something to do with hatch. What options do i have?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have to make a roll of tape in Inventor, but I'm not too familiar with/used to the program. It's the small invisible adhesive tape, like the kind you'd find in office. So far, I sketched and extruded the plastic part the tape gets wrapped around, which is basically just a small tube. I also have a rectangle that's really long for the actual tape part, and that's extruded but very thin. they're both made as standard.ipt files. I opened a standard.iam file to put them together using constraints, but I'm not exactly sure how. I have the edge of the rectangle on the outside of the circle, so I just have to wrap it around. I'm assuming I just bend the rectangle (tape) around the circle (plastic part), but I don't know how to do that.

I am trying to make a shell of a mesh feature after I have upscaled it.
I do not think the regular shell technique will work as my mesh feature has hundreds of surfaces. So, I decided to open the file with my part in it and then derive the same part but a little bigger using the derive button. I would then subtract out the smaller, original, one to make a shell of the bigger, derived one.
Unfortunately, when I use this method to upscale, the 2 objects are not concentric so I cannot make the uniform shell that I want to.
I have attached the file of my mesh feature in case you want to see it. not that you will have to convert the object you see on my file into a base feature before doing anything with it. I did not because it would have made the file to big to attach.
I created my custom Sheet Set with my desired Sheet Set properties. I named it "wizengr.dst". Who knows how I can make this DST file the default so that the "Creat Sheet" wizard and "Create Section Sheet" dialog box will automatically use it to create a sheet set during sheet creation process.

I have not done this in a long time but I know the procedure for creating the visibility states but for some reason no matter how many times i adjust this one block i cannot get the this attribute definition to stop showing in visibility states.
I have tried doing a show all and hiding this attribute manually over and over again and i cannot get the block to hold the info. it looks right in the block editor but as soon as i insert this block i can see the visibility state is not right. is their a procedure of how i set up a block like this so that the visibility states will work the way i want them too?
The building I am working on is the shape of a jelly bean. The exterior glazing will be segmented and we are trying to make the building as dimensionally uniform as possible. IE 5'-0" Curtain Wall units. So each arc length needs to be perfectly divisible by 5'-0" and the transitions from one arc to the next must occur at a tangent point.
Eventually we will be developing the building in Revit 2013 but for now we are in ACAD 2013.

I want to make a layer from external reference current.
I tried to identify it with its full name, but I got an error: eInvalidInput. So I found out, I have to use only the part behind the pipe.But then there is a problem, because this name is not unique withing the drawing.
Any number of xrefs can have such layer and also the drawing itself can have a layer with the same name. How exactly can I set a layer from xref current?
