We just upgraded to ACA 2013. I am trying to get a handle on our office standards. Part of doing that is to try and use as much out of the box as possible and keeping with the AIA layer standards.
I have always used CTB for plotting. I am just now trying to learn about STB for the first time.
In the past, I would change things like a wall styles layer key style and display properties to conform to my CTB in order for it to plot the correct line weights.
I want to be able to leave everything alone as much as possible and use STB. I want to use the AIA layers that ALL objects come in on as they are so that our office can use 100% of the out of the box objects and me not have to worry about changing each style to print properly.
So I am going to make office standard wall, door, window, etc. styles which will mostly be out of the box styles. I also want people to be able to use the detail components. Some editing will take place but only in design, not layer key styles or display. I guess basically what I'm asking is this, is it possible to get things to plot the way I want without having to change anything about them, using a STB plot style and leaving all objects alone to exist on there AIA layers?
Using ACA 2012, I get a delay when I switch drawings, either using ctrl tab or the mouse. The ACA pauses for a moment. I also get the same issue going from model space tab to a paper space layout tab. Running Windows 7 Pro on a Xi machine Intel i5 2.8 ghz with 4gig of memory and a geforce 9800 GT video card. I didn't have this with ACA 2008 prior to updating.
When an object in an XRef is tagged (and the object has an object based PSD) the tag will not update to reflect changes made in the XRef.
This can be fixed in the XRef by running the PropertyDataBrowser command and unticking the Overrides (shown in the leftmost tickbox when two tick boxes present).
Any automatic way to keep the tags up to date? I have attached my VB.Net code attempt for this. It almost works BUT the MultiViewBlock Overrides are ReadOnly.
My model space has been switched to a 3D space and I'm having a hard time figureing out how to change it. I would like it to be a 2D space. I am using Auto CAD 2007.
sometimes the 'last' entity is whatever the last one in the current view is (the entities you can see on the screen), but sometimes the 'last' item is the very last item created, whether you can see it in the view or not. what is the command to use to switch between these two options?
A while back, I sent some dxf files (all made in AC Lt 2010) to a company that uses a system called DP/Com. Apparently, this program reads coordinates (Y,X) instead of (X,Y), which means that they think all of my files are really wierd . Each and every number in the coordinates of my points are correct, so it's just the order I want to change.
Is there any way to "switch" the coordinates of several points at once in AC? (Without having to extract a coordinate list, switch columns in Excel and then importing them back...?)
I just purchased the new ACAD2014. It works fine but every time that I launch the program the opening screen shows a grid and I have to turn it off. Is it possible to start up without the grid.
Our server is aging and needs replaced. Our in house IT guy wants to switch from PC to a Mac server. Which essentially means we would switch to Macs. all of our programs run in PC format and was wondering how this major change might affect how we are running right now.
I dont know if this an Autocad Lt 2012 or windows 7 function, but a lot of times when I'm typing in Autocad (using Dtext), the caps lock seems to switch itself on and off, which of course is extremely annoying.
We are having the issue with all of our Windows 7 machines that you cant switch back to Autocad using the Windows 7 taskbar. When this happened with 2010 we chalked it up to 2010 not being compliant with the new taskbar in windows. But when it started happening with our Acad 2011 installs it gets frustrating. Alt Tab doesn't work. Hover and select a preview window doesn't work. The only thing that works is starting task manager and clicking 'Switch to'.
I would like to use iLogic to switch my design (rather complex assembly) between the 'full' version, a 'simple' version and a 'FEA' version. I'm learning Inventor step by step and did not studies the making of drawings yes.
I'm not sure if it is ok to use iLogic for this purpose because I'm afraid my drawings will update to the simple' or 'FEA' versions. This is not what I want. And when using the 'FEA' version, will the FEA information get lost when I switch back to the 'full' or 'simple' versions?
Or in other words: Is it wise to use iLogic for this purpose?
When in a drawing how do you switch between Imperial and Metric. It seems like it would be such a simple process? When I try to go to Options > User Preferences > Scale List Edit and change it, I then hit apply get back into options and it is switched back to Imperial ? I am basically trying to get this scale list format 1:10, 1:20, etc. instead of 1/4"=1'0", 1/2"=1'-0", etc.
I am a total beginner at this vb.net thing. I have a vba routine that I have used for years to execute a lisp routine on an open document, then switch to the next already open document, and continue until the routine has been performed on each already open documents. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how in vb.net to get a document collection and make each document the active document so that I can execute the lisp routine.

Converting Mass Elements into 3d solids. I have an existing file with Mass Element entities which was created back in 2008/2009 with Autodesk Autocad 2008.I now use Autocad 2011.
MY PROBLEM is that I cannot switch the mass elements to 3d solids.
'CONVERTTOSOLIDS' option does not work and it is forcing me to.
explode > convert to surfaces > union > convert to solids
This process is ok on an individual solid but I have hundreds of them to do.
Is there anyway for me to streamline this process and find a faster way to do this?
I updated my computer to windows 7 32 bit and need the file: AdskHwCertificationDatabase.xml - version 17.1.0.4 so that I can find out the correct driver for my OS and my quadrofx 1700 graphics card. Autodesk doesn't support 2008 Architecture and the on;y file I can find is buried in a torrent file with a pirated copy of 2008 and I DO NOT wish to download that.
Im currently using Autocad Architecture, is it true that Autocad Architecture creates a bigger file size compared to Revit Architecture? Lets say that same structure and components are created.
The content browser in AutoCAD Architecture 2013 does not seem to be working on a standard users computer. The profile has been rebuilt alongside a repair/reinstall through the control panel.
Ctrl+4
Tools > Content Browser
and typing content browser in the command do not result in anything.
I do not get why new Archicad Architecture has 3d modeling when Revit architecture already provided for it. What is the different between those two? I really want to know the difference. It bothers me somewhat about them.
My system is setup to use different projects and vaults depending on which department one is working. I have been jumping back and forth and was trying to find a macro to quickly switch projects, log out of the current vault, and log back into a different vault. I have minimal experience with macros and none with macros in Inventor . I am using Inventor 2009.
How to switch the direction of text arrows?I’m wondering if there is a way to switch the direction of the text arrows from being left directed to be right?
I work for a large enterprise that has many machines(all the same) that have Inventor 2010 with the 3GB switch enabled. However, when a user tries to remotely connect the machine with the switch enabled, using Windows RDC, they are unable to. After removing the switch, the user is able to remote successfully. Other forums suggested that the "SessionImageSpace" in the registry needed to be edited to allow for the connection, but that did not work for me.

We are looking to switch from SW to Autodesk in order to utilize advanced surfacing in Alias, and its interoperability with Inventor. However, we need to continue to perform Kinimatic linkage studies as well using Inventor. I need to make sure we can perform the same calculations with ease before making the switch.
At this point I am trying to mimic in Inventor the kinimatic studies I perform in SW. In SW I would perform these studies within a single part file, using a single sketch only (no solid parts). Within this part file I would break up the total "travel" of the linkage into configurations that are driven by a "Design Table". The Design Table would be used for both the main driving value, and for any driven values I wanted to use for analysis.
I am trying to find a way to get the same driven variables written to an Excel file to use for analysis using Inventor.
As a test example:
I would like to drive one variable(Damper Length) to get ~20 different iParts, each with the linkage moved to a new point within its set range of motion. I then would like to write several Driven variables(Displacement_1-3 shown in "RULE CODE" attachement) from each iPart instance to an Excel file.
I have been able to get my 20 iParts and the linkage to move accordingly(iPART INSTANCES attachement), but I have not figured out how to write the driven data to excel for each iPart instance(20 rows of data, 3 columns). I have only been able to write the dimesions for one row of data...whichever iPart is currently open.
with the necessary iLogic code or another solution? It seems like this should be pretty straight forward. Do I need to be using the "ChangeRow" iPart Snippet?
