AutoCad :: Deleted Drawing Reappearing
Aug 23, 2011I deleted drawing1.dwg but every time I power up Autocad 2011 it keeps coming up. This drawing has a small square in the southeast corner of the screen. Why is this happening?

I have been given a problem that involves a group of objects and images that have been masked. When i duplicate the group, move it and make some changes, on reopen it seems some of the masked images are duplicated and appear in the original position before they were moved?
Although they are masked out they are obviously not good. These images also appear in the link panel without any thumbnails.
I have 2 drafters that are working on AutoCAD Map 2002 programs with Windows 7 64 Bit operating systems. When I started back in August I noticed something absolutely bizarre. I have not come across this before so I am now escalating it to you experts.
What is happening is that the drafter will be working on a DWG. They will save multiple times. Even exit the drawing and come back to it the next day. While in the drawing (on the server OR on their computer, doesn't matter) the drawings will occassionally lock up and get the blue wheel. Then it will simply shut down.
Here is the strange part. The drawing file is deleted from the folder. All save points and everything. Just gone. Sometimes a random save file will be created in the same folder. This has saved us a couple times. But more often than not it is simply gone.
I am trying to convince my VP that we need to upgrade our AutoCAD licenses on these 2 machines.
I have a number of layout tabs with varying layer controls applied in multiple viewports. This layout may be made up of a number of xrefs. I end up with a lot of layers in the host drawing from the xrefs, and even after I purge the xrefs to eliminate some of the xrefs, the layers remain in the host drawing, even though they no longer exist.
Is there any way to update the xref definitions to get rid of the layers without losing the layer setups I have? VISRETAIN is set to 1, and if I reset it to 0, I will lose all of the viewport controls I have put in place.
The problem I'm having, or what's annoying, is reappearing (visible) Work Planes. I have a number of parts in my assembly that I make invisible and visible on a regular basis and I find that when I make a part visible, the Work Planes of that part also become visible. It's very annoying and time consuming having to turn off the Work Planes when there's no need for them to be visible.
Is there a way to either make all Work Planes invisible or to permenantly make Work Planes invisible unless you specifically make them visible.
I keep dragging actions that I want to delete to the actions trash icon. But they just reappear after an hour or so it seems like. I don't close Photoshop down very often and I'm always exporting large batches from Lightroom.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently working on a drawing which has previously been drawn by somebody else. I probably have 10 different layers within the drawing. However in my layer properties manager I have 37 all of which are turned on unlocked etc. When I try to purge theses layers are not deleted. Is there any reason why I can see theses layers and more importantly erase them?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to "lock" layers so that they cannot be deleted or purged from a drawing?
I have a template with all titleblocks, layers, dim styles, and such, all set up. But since there are a small group of layers that are not actually used in the drawing or template they are "purgable" or "deletable". As far as I understand locking the layer locks the geometry to keep it from being edited so it will not work for what I am thinking.
AutoCadLT2012 has deleted the data from all the files I was currently working on. The files are there and the backup is there , but all data has been removed. I have searched my entire computer (three hard drives) and Acad backup, auto save, etc. and the files are there, but no dwg.
View 5 Replies View RelatedHow do you constrain an object to the origin once the origin constraint has been deleted. I'm not really sure how it became unconstrained in the first place. When I try to constrain the drawing using the coincident constraint it won't allow me to select the origin.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a mlstyle definition.
It is not set current and It is not in use in the dwg, but when I open the mlstyle dialog box, I cannot delete the style.
I have a CAD file that will not let me delete layers, get the usual message; "The selected layer was not deleted . . . . ". This is not the current layer, nor is it 0 or Defpoints and I am fairly certain the Layer does not contain objects. As an interesting side note; when running Purge, the Purge zero-length geometry and empty text objects is grayed out. It's not an option.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly where I have deleted a component, but it is still linked to the assembly somehow. The part is no longer visible in the model, is missing from the model tree and from the BOM, but it still prompts to save. I have attached screenshots to show what i mean: The file (00017429.ipt) prompting to save, despite not actually being in the assembly (00052857), the parts-only BOM showing that the part is not in the BOM, and the vault tab with the part highlighted.
I don't believe this is vault related because Inventor is prompting to save the 'deleted' file, and pack-and-go also grabs the 'deleted' file.
For the example shown, it is a minor nuisance because it means an extra drawing gets printed when an assembly with this problem gets used. I have just had the same problem happen on another, much more complex assembly and it is causing me major grief.

Text style can’t be deleted!
Although, the text style “Simplexshx” (the file is attached) is neither used nor the current, but it can’t be deleted!

Every time I purge my drawing several plot styles show to be deleted. I don't reconize them, one I see offten is called Invisible ink. I started to try to use it to see what its about. I can't seem to find the right track and use this plot style.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was recently updating an assembly which contained a part that had been subsequently deleted from my folders. I skipped it while opening the assembly, then deleted the part in the Model Tree (and replaced it with a different component). So, to summarize, the assembly no longer has the part in the Tree, and the part does not exist anymore on my system. These parts and assemblies have not been Vaulted, so that should not be an issue either.
My problem is that every time I open the assembly, it wants me to resolve this deleted part, and I have to skip it every time just to proceed. Once the file is loaded, I get no other issues, no "red cross" items, just a question mark next to the file name at the top of the Tree indicating that the file needs to be resolved.
The old part is gone; I tried recreating it using the same file name, and using the same third-party SAT file from which it was originally generated, but Inventor detects that it's not the original part and won't accept it.
How to get past this "part resolution" issue?

is there a way to restore deleted xref or block from the database?
i had been using autocad for almost 10 years now and i always have the newer version for my line of work.
i am having trouble with the excessive styles that shows whenever i copy and paste then the problems occur after that most often. copy paste problems, fatal errors, and my computer hangs most of the time.
I have created a surface and have exported it to LandXML for import into another software. After generation of the surface, I have cleaned up the surface triangles to eliminate triangulation outside of the area of interest. I have tried this both with deleting actual surface lines and by applying a boundary. After I edit the surface, I export it as a LandXML and bring it into my application where the surface still has the lines outside of the area of interest that I wanted deleted.
What I suspect is happening is that C3D is recording that the lines were deleted in the edits section of the surface, but that the actual lines are not deleted from the surface definition. My other software is not smart enough to figure this out from the LandXML file. Is it possible to finalize all the edits in C3D so that upon export my deleted lines do not transfer through?
I found a lisp in an old post and I edited it alittle with my own layers to have it change to but when I use it, it doesn't deleted the extra layers. It says layer cannot be deleted. Below is part of the code that I am using, I didn't copy all of them since there are alot of layers in the lisp that I added. maybe I copied something wrong I am not sure.

This following happened frequently.
1. We spend a lot of time creating a drawing with dimensions and leader text.
2. The part or assembly changes (feature or components are deleted or replaced)
3. Dimensions that reference deleted geometry disappear.
From what I can tell, the dimension will turn pink/purple and not disappear ONLY if one of it's attachment points is still valid. However, if all the attachment points for the dimension or leader text are gone, then the dimension or leader text simply disappears.
We spent a lot of time creatin these dimensions and/or leader text and would like to know if there is a problem. We have had many instances where we though the drawing was done only to find vital info missing. To make sure this doesn't bite us again we currently have to carefully compare archived revisions of the drawing with the current drawing to make sure everything is there.
When I have a sheetmetal part with an iLogic rule in it and I delete a feature, Inventor sticks this garbage into my rule.

The hole tool will not let me complete the holes if I delete the cross part references & re-create them again.
Note that I had to change some adaptive hole locations to follow a part that was moved & I couldn't get adaptivity turned on for all components involved (adaptivity grayed out on actual part to change). Not sure why I could turn adaptivity back on. So I opted to just recreate the cross part hole references in the parts hole sketch.
I find I have to now delete the holes completely & start over which causes extra work in IDW & IPN files downstream.
Is this as planned or am I doing something wrong. This used to be easy in 2012.
