AutoCAD 2013 :: Setup Different Elevation For Objects?
Mar 20, 2013In regular conditions de elevation of every object that I creat is Z= 0
Lines starting and ending points are at this level, circle centers -and circles as objects- polylines etc.
How is possible to setup a different elevation for my objects?
Second case: Just in case I rotate my UCS and having my drawing doing all my objects in the plane X-Z therefore my coordinate Y as default for every object, could I set up the Y coordinate as required?

Nov 21, 2013I'm currently creating blocks for our office library. One of these is a grille with some apposed blade dampers on it. I'm trying to set up an array that will duplicate the apposed blades as I change the length of the grille. However, it will only copy the blades in pairs, not singly one after the other. Ie, the blades are 100mm apart, and in a / pattern meaning that each instance of / or 'should' duplicate every 200mm. Except when I lengthen the block by 200mm it won't duplicate until I've gone double the distance (400) when it gives me both / and .

Apr 2, 2012I was presented with a little renovation project and need to setup my own drawing. I've worked on CAD for a number of years while at a structural firm, an engineering firm and took classes in school but one thing I never had to do was setup was my own professional drawing from scratch. I know enough that it's crucial I start off on the foot. The engineering firm I worked at had everything ready so whenever I used CAD it was in an existing drawing or preparing a detail which the drafters imported. When I did some drafting work for an architect, he also had the drawing setup for me.
Since I'm now on my own I need to setup my own template drawing with a title block, layers, etc. Whats the best route for setting up my own sheets?
At my firm we always worked in a 1:1 scale & engineering units but since I'm doing floor plans for renovation work I plan on using the industry standard.

Jun 7, 2013In our drawing office we use Inventor in a mining materials handling environment. Our output is mainly structural drawings where we require a bill of materials as part of creating a drawing. Whenever I insert a BOM in the drawing environment I get this table which is labeled in a foreign language (it looks like an Eastern European language) and the format is not as per the standard Autodesk installation setup.
How do I either revert back to the standard setup or do a BOM setup from scratch?
We use IV 2013 Professional on Windows 7 64 bit.

Example : a cube, 100*100*100 mm . I want to slice it in 10 layers of 10 milimeters (with the z axis)
My project is based on autocad. I 'm currently developing an addon to autocad that can get x,y,z coordinates of every shape in the drawing. I'm working with laser machines, and our lasers can only be use between -8 mm and 8 mm.
For 2d drawing, it's simple, i don't need slicing, but for 3d shapes, i need to slice to mark it with our lasers.

Jul 24, 2012I am just learning AC and have the tutorial video by Brian Benton for 2012. He does a great job of explaining what layers are and how to manage them once they have been created but he does not touch on how to add objects to a layer after you create it? I watched the layers section 4 times and nothing about this.
I can create a new layer fine and also a new object but unless I am just blind and stupid (which is possible) I do not see any options in the layer manager letting you add an object to a layer? Got--- create new layer, freeze layer, isolate layer, etc, etc, etc but nothing to do the simple and most basic task of adding your newly created object to a layer-----either a newly created one you just made or an existing one?

Nov 4, 2011I have a drawing with a bunch of stuff on different layers. I want to be able to see the stuff on those layers but not select them. I know I can lock the layers but if I use a left crossing window to select objects it still grabs the stuff on the locked layer.
I could make a copy of all of it, move it to layer 0, freeze all the layers except 0, defpts, and the layer I am working on, then move the stuff to defpts and lock layer 0 and when I am all done delete everything on defpts and thaw everything.

AutoCad :: Unlocking Layers Where Objects Are Selectable
Mar 27, 2009At a point I want to unlock all layers where the objects are selectable (layers unfrozen and turned on).
If I have the script initiate the layer command then there is the select options list and "u" is for unlock. It then wants a layer name or return to select items. Here is where the problem is when i'm in control I can just hit return to select the items and just select all, but when the script is running it skips my space for a return and goes to the next all statement and errors saying not a valid option. Is there a way to force that return to select the objects?

Apr 11, 2013After all this time is there a way to assign layers to different objects with a block? Perhaps using Visibility states or Lookups?
As an example:
I have a dynamic block with a door swing and text. As I increase the size of the door the text changes to reflect door size. The objects are all on the 0 Layer. When I insert the block I can assign a 'Text A' Layer to the text and a 'Door A' layer to the door. So when I switch layer states around I will either see the door, the text or both. Then I move to the second floor which has been stacked on the first floor. I insert my DB and assign layers 'Text B' and 'Door B' respectively to the text and door.
Finally when I go to my layer states I either select 'First Floor' or 'Second Floor' and the respective blocks appear depending on the layer state.

Feb 8, 2011My problem is when i place PSD file into illustrator, it opens up "Photoshop Import Option" menu, which lets me choose either:
(1) convert photoshop layers to objects (or)
(2) Flatten photoshop layers to a single image
All other options are greyed out (meaning i cannot select them). The above 2 options will embed the image into illustrator, thus when i update in photoshop, they will not auto update.
I dont have this problem in the past (which means i dont get this menu when i use the place function) but it just poped up the last week.But when i open OLD illustrator files which have PSD images not embeded, i am able to edit the PSD and illustrator will auto update.
it is really frustrating to keep placing PSD files everytime when i have changes.

May 27, 2013The issue is that I have 3 machines I have designed with more that 80 parts each that I wanted to pull into Photoshop (they will be part of a web site) with layers so that I can texture them further. Is there a way (script or built in) that will put each object onto its own layer? Creating layers and drag/drop is going to kill my project time.
I found one plugin that is meant to do it but errors out in CorelDraw X6 x64. Scatter to layers, was the name I think. I'm sadly completely useless at any thing code related so I can't even edit the one I found to fix the errors.
This isn't an error but just a cross compatibility issue. Corel should look at adding the "treat objects/groups as layers" in the PSD export dialogue.
Photoshop :: Aligning Objects On Multiple Layers
Jan 11, 2005If you have raster (or vector) item on seperate layers, I know I can link all the layers together, but when I select the MOVE tool and press the button that centers to the middle of the canvas, it moves every item to the center of the canvas (as it should) But these items, when viewed "together" make up an element that I'd like to be considered "grouped" so the "collectively" then are centered to the canvas as one item. Is this possible?

Nov 20, 2012I created a smart object with linked adjustment layers. I made them into a group. (I also tried this with the layers just being linked, and not grouped.) I want to move the smart object, with its adjustment layers, into another document. Ideally, I'd like to do this using "replace contents." When I do so, the smart object comes into the destination document flattened with its adjustment layers. Is there some way to keep those adjustment layers linked, not flattened, to move with the smart object layer?
The workflow I'm trying to achieve is to remove blemishes, etc. and make my all changes to my layer that I'd want to have made no matter what size and context I use that layer in. That is, make one smart object I can slot into a postcard, a 14 x 11 print, and other products. I don't sharpen until I have moved the layer/smart object into my target document, so that sharpening is appropriate for the final print size. Depending on the size and context, I may want to make changes to the levels/curves/hue saturation type adjustment layers though, so having these flattened when I bring the smart object in to my target document is disappointing.

Mar 11, 2014i have a guge artwork and i need to select a small groups (around 10-100) of objects from about 4000 overlayed objects and then group'em/split-to-layers for usability (This is a human body infographics for medical institute) There IS NO way selecting them from canvas because they are overlayed, and sometimes not visible at all. in CS5 there was a feature to select multiple objects by Alt+drag selection icon on the most right in the Layers Panel. Now the duplication mode turns-on when i try to perform it. So.. Ho do i select multiple object without need to click through thousands of them? (i need drag-select)
