Jun 17, 2013I have AutoCAD Map 3D 2013. How do I copy/move objects such as lines and arces between layers that are in the Task Pane window, not the regular layers? I can't find the Layer Manager.

Dec 9, 2012So a friend created a model using zbrush and exported several different *.OBJ files. I imported those to maya and added shaders. They all fit correctly together when imported.
some of those obj files required me to do a mesh->combine. so now it appears that not every item has the same reference point so that when I move or scale the entire item, some of the objects move seperately. I think it is only the ones I had to combine.
I tried freeze transformations, but when doing that, some of the objects lost their scale settings and still didnt move together as one unit.

Apr 13, 2011I have a program that creates a drawing. I want to move all of the objects (lines, blocks, arcs...) from one point to another. I was using the SendStringToExecute, but it doesn't seem to work. Here is the section of code I have:

This will select all of the objects in the drawing, but it just doesn't see the start point and end point. It just keeps prompting me to enter the start and end points manually. Is there a way to pass the variables to the command? Is there another way of moving the objects?
AutoCad :: X-REF Objects Move To Other Drawing?
Oct 22, 2012I have a weird issue with basic use xref in AutoCad 2012. There are two files complementary, (an elevation , one is masonry, the other windows). One is refering to the other with x-ref for a complete view (in overlay). From time to time some objects from the xref file are brought into the master file. This seems to happen randomly, like not all objects from a layer are moves for instance. These are usually blocks that are taken from the xref file. And when I discover them in the master drawing they are exploded too. So I have to clean my drawing up from all that scrap. It happen like twice a week.

Jun 24, 2011I have some viewports in paper space and when I resize the view port, the objects inside move in a strange way. I don't know if a variable got reset or something but this is weird. Normally I can resize a viewport and the objects stay in the same location. But now they seem to be moving relative to the edge of the viewport.

Jan 21, 2014So I have a lot of 2D drawings (a couple thousand roughly) that I need to go through and shift the objects within to the absolute 0,0 position. That way, when we insert them into a new drawing, everything is centered appropriately and not way off the screen.
Instead of:
Open File > Select Objects > "MOVE" > Specify Basepoint > " * 0 , 0 " > Center View on Newly position Objects > Save File > Close File
... Repeat ...
By way of a LISP routine, or a script that could automatically do the above steps on it's own. Even something that doesn't require me to hit *, then tab, then 0, then tab, then 0 again.

I have an existing OS plan that is 'off grid', and would like to adjust the vertices at the ends of all the existing lines and polylines so that they all sit on a grid point, ie round all vertices to the nearest whole number. For 2d drawing, it's simple, i don't need slicing, but for 3d shapes, i need to slice to mark it with our lasers.

He does a great job of explaining what layers are and how to manage them once they have been created but he does not touch on how to add objects to a layer after you create it? I watched the layers section 4 times and nothing about this.
I can create a new layer fine and also a new object but unless I am just blind and stupid (which is possible) I do not see any options in the layer manager letting you add an object to a layer? Got--- create new layer, freeze layer, isolate layer, etc, etc, etc but nothing to do the simple and most basic task of adding your newly created object to a layer-----either a newly created one you just made or an existing one?
AutoCad 2D :: Want To See Objects On Layers But Not Select Them
Nov 4, 2011I have a drawing with a bunch of stuff on different layers. I want to be able to see the stuff on those layers but not select them. I know I can lock the layers but if I use a left crossing window to select objects it still grabs the stuff on the locked layer.
I could make a copy of all of it, move it to layer 0, freeze all the layers except 0, defpts, and the layer I am working on, then move the stuff to defpts and lock layer 0 and when I am all done delete everything on defpts and thaw everything.

AutoCad :: Unlocking Layers Where Objects Are Selectable
Mar 27, 2009At a point I want to unlock all layers where the objects are selectable (layers unfrozen and turned on).
If I have the script initiate the layer command then there is the select options list and "u" is for unlock. It then wants a layer name or return to select items. Here is where the problem is when i'm in control I can just hit return to select the items and just select all, but when the script is running it skips my space for a return and goes to the next all statement and errors saying not a valid option. Is there a way to force that return to select the objects?
