I saw someone use split extrusion on text so that each character can be modeled independently, but how do you do it with 3 different objects so I can have them rotate independently?
View 2 RepliesTo recreate this error, draw 2 simple shapes in Illustrator CS6, copy and paste them together as a Shape layer in Photoshop CS6.
Then go to 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Path. I just accept the defaults.
Then go to 3D > Split Extrusion.
The error is thrown at this point. No matter what I do, I can't get it to work.
I've tried rasterizing the shape, but then I get a different error. When I select 3D > New 3D Extrusion from Selected Layer, I get the error: "Could not complete the New 3D Extruions from Selected Layer command because the path is too complex." This is ridiculous. I can't get the 3D to work at all.
After doing a live trace and expand on an object I now need to separate one object into two. I tried using both the scissors and the knife tool and neither tool work. When I select two anchor points on opposite side of each other to split the object it just adds a line in the middle with the object as a whole still in tact.

I made all my polygons with the same technique but somehow interactive polygon split tool does not split all polygons... I attached a file with which I have problem. Split tool just "disappears" after submitting changes...

I'll be trying to fill a layer or a selection but whenever I fill it, it never fills anything below other objects in completely unrelated layers. Is there a setting I can turn off to make sure that this doesn't happen anymore?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf you have raster (or vector) item on seperate layers, I know I can link all the layers together, but when I select the MOVE tool and press the button that centers to the middle of the canvas, it moves every item to the center of the canvas (as it should) But these items, when viewed "together" make up an element that I'd like to be considered "grouped" so the "collectively" then are centered to the canvas as one item. Is this possible?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a smart object with linked adjustment layers. I made them into a group. (I also tried this with the layers just being linked, and not grouped.) I want to move the smart object, with its adjustment layers, into another document. Ideally, I'd like to do this using "replace contents." When I do so, the smart object comes into the destination document flattened with its adjustment layers. Is there some way to keep those adjustment layers linked, not flattened, to move with the smart object layer?
The workflow I'm trying to achieve is to remove blemishes, etc. and make my all changes to my layer that I'd want to have made no matter what size and context I use that layer in. That is, make one smart object I can slot into a postcard, a 14 x 11 print, and other products. I don't sharpen until I have moved the layer/smart object into my target document, so that sharpening is appropriate for the final print size. Depending on the size and context, I may want to make changes to the levels/curves/hue saturation type adjustment layers though, so having these flattened when I bring the smart object in to my target document is disappointing.
While working and when the job was nearly done (Photoshop document with several layers to correct wrinkles, teeth, neck...) , I found out that the document is setup RGB.I have to convert it into CMYK but I don't want to merge it or lose layers since I need them in another Photoshop document too.
While converting the image from RGB to CMYK, I found out that some of the layers (hue/saturation adjustment layers) don't exist anymore when converted to CMYK...How do I get these layers (or at least the effect they give to the design) in CMYK?
I am trying to get photoshop to combine some objects in the stacked photos. I do not understand why after selecting all the various smart objects which are layered, and going to Layers- smart objects - stack mode is greyed out.

Even if I convert something to a smart object, no joy. The only thing I seem to be able to select and copy/cut/paste is text in the text edit mode. makes no sense and is rendering PS unusable.

My project is based on autocad. I 'm currently developing an addon to autocad that can get x,y,z coordinates of every shape in the drawing. I'm working with laser machines, and our lasers can only be use between -8 mm and 8 mm.
For 2d drawing, it's simple, i don't need slicing, but for 3d shapes, i need to slice to mark it with our lasers.
I am just learning AC and have the tutorial video by Brian Benton for 2012. He does a great job of explaining what layers are and how to manage them once they have been created but he does not touch on how to add objects to a layer after you create it? I watched the layers section 4 times and nothing about this.
I can create a new layer fine and also a new object but unless I am just blind and stupid (which is possible) I do not see any options in the layer manager letting you add an object to a layer? Got--- create new layer, freeze layer, isolate layer, etc, etc, etc but nothing to do the simple and most basic task of adding your newly created object to a layer-----either a newly created one you just made or an existing one?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing with a bunch of stuff on different layers. I want to be able to see the stuff on those layers but not select them. I know I can lock the layers but if I use a left crossing window to select objects it still grabs the stuff on the locked layer.
I could make a copy of all of it, move it to layer 0, freeze all the layers except 0, defpts, and the layer I am working on, then move the stuff to defpts and lock layer 0 and when I am all done delete everything on defpts and thaw everything.
Can I setup certain layers so that they are always above all other objects?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy problem is when i place PSD file into illustrator, it opens up "Photoshop Import Option" menu, which lets me choose either:
(1) convert photoshop layers to objects (or)
(2) Flatten photoshop layers to a single image
All other options are greyed out (meaning i cannot select them). The above 2 options will embed the image into illustrator, thus when i update in photoshop, they will not auto update.
I dont have this problem in the past (which means i dont get this menu when i use the place function) but it just poped up the last week.But when i open OLD illustrator files which have PSD images not embeded, i am able to edit the PSD and illustrator will auto update.
it is really frustrating to keep placing PSD files everytime when i have changes.
The issue is that I have 3 machines I have designed with more that 80 parts each that I wanted to pull into Photoshop (they will be part of a web site) with layers so that I can texture them further. Is there a way (script or built in) that will put each object onto its own layer? Creating layers and drag/drop is going to kill my project time.
I found one plugin that is meant to do it but errors out in CorelDraw X6 x64. Scatter to layers, was the name I think. I'm sadly completely useless at any thing code related so I can't even edit the one I found to fix the errors.
This isn't an error but just a cross compatibility issue. Corel should look at adding the "treat objects/groups as layers" in the PSD export dialogue.
I have random objects, eg lines or text that I can't select, even to see what properties they have. none of my layers are frozen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using QSELECT to select all objects on a layer, sometimes I need to select objects from 5-7 layers.
Right now I use QSELECT, select 1 layer, click OK, open QSELECT again, select another layer and repeat. Is there a faster way to do this without scripts?
I'm sure some of you do site drawings, how do you measure a curve? Some restaurants or cafes have a rounded serving counter, how you measure the radius to plot into autocad?
At a point I want to unlock all layers where the objects are selectable (layers unfrozen and turned on).
If I have the script initiate the layer command then there is the select options list and "u" is for unlock. It then wants a layer name or return to select items. Here is where the problem is when i'm in control I can just hit return to select the items and just select all, but when the script is running it skips my space for a return and goes to the next all statement and errors saying not a valid option. Is there a way to force that return to select the objects?
I have made gridlines and put them on a locked layer. I want to be able to see them and snap to them, but I don't want to select them. Their selectability is hindering my ability to select objects on other layers. Is there any way to make lines on locked layers not selectable? (I don't like the Autocad standard grid.)

I have Note label Style objects and Marker Style Objects that have layers assigned to them. When I bring a Note label or Marker Style into the drawing, it comes in on the zero layer. I know that the object layers of the drawing settings are controlling this. Is it possible to have the Note labels and/or Markers come in on the assigned layers of their Styles?
Is there a setting that allows grouped objects from different layers to be ungrouped and they return to their original layers?

i have a guge artwork and i need to select a small groups (around 10-100) of objects from about 4000 overlayed objects and then group'em/split-to-layers for usability (This is a human body infographics for medical institute) There IS NO way selecting them from canvas because they are overlayed, and sometimes not visible at all. in CS5 there was a feature to select multiple objects by Alt+drag selection icon on the most right in the Layers Panel. Now the duplication mode turns-on when i try to perform it. So.. Ho do i select multiple object without need to click through thousands of them? (i need drag-select)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI came across this site a few weeks ago and was happy to see that a community like this existed. I am new to CorelDraw and have been playing around with it because my friend just bought a Roland GX-24 vinyl cutter and I wanted to make some designs for it. I, however, am overly experienced with Photoshop and not enough with CorelDraw, but would like to balance that out.
I came across my recent predicament when I exported my CorelDraw image into Roland CutStudio and it wanted to cut all the underlying curves from each layer, instead of the black and white image as it appeared. I wasn't surprised this happened because I couldn't figure a way to join/ merge the curves before I exported, but I was still hopeful that it might cut the image as it appeared.
This first object is a blade layer and as you can see from the picture, when selected, its curve goes right through the other spiral object. How can I merge these curves? As it stands right now, I can't even figure out a way to select the two of them at the same time, let alone join the curves.
....and vice versa in this picture, the spiral object when selected goes right through the blade
....and in the foremost layer of the image when selected, the curves also continue through the spiral
Here is a picture of the current layers for this whole image. The front layer I paint bucket filled numerous portions of it with white so it stuck out above the bottom two other layers, so all the fills make it a group of 161 objects, and the next layer is a group of 2 objects which are the spiral and the blade from the first 2 pictures.
My question is how can I merge or join all the curves in the entire image, essentially flattening the whole image as it appears?
After all this time is there a way to assign layers to different objects with a block? Perhaps using Visibility states or Lookups?
As an example:
I have a dynamic block with a door swing and text. As I increase the size of the door the text changes to reflect door size. The objects are all on the 0 Layer. When I insert the block I can assign a 'Text A' Layer to the text and a 'Door A' layer to the door. So when I switch layer states around I will either see the door, the text or both. Then I move to the second floor which has been stacked on the first floor. I insert my DB and assign layers 'Text B' and 'Door B' respectively to the text and door.
Finally when I go to my layer states I either select 'First Floor' or 'Second Floor' and the respective blocks appear depending on the layer state.
I've tried dragging layers across drawings using the design center interface, but what I've noticed is that while the layer in question gets copied over, the layer is empty. The objects within the layer do not get copied over. How do I copy objects AND layers that I've selected across drawings using Autocad Design Center?
