I don't remember Illustrator CS5.5 doing this, but perhaps I am wrong. Why does Illustrator leave blank layers after grouping objects?
A screen shot is provided below. I grouped several layers of objects and called it 'JM.' After doing so it left three blank layers.
I updated to Arch. 13 and some of my content (mainly casework) was not working properly, so I deleted it and decided to just re-download the files. Insert ribbon > Seek search bar leaves me with a blank page. I've tried queries: "casework" "ceiling fan" "furnace" "family" "lighting" and "wall."
I've tried getting through via Revit Architecture as well.
I'm in the middle of a design concept rendering for a client... so this caught me completely off-guard.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to P&G Designer7 from Xara Xtreme 3.I had problems ungrouping layers.Maybe others have experienced the same difficulty.
Grouping layers is easy, of course. Shortcut CTRL+G, moves all parts to just one layer.
Ungrouping is not so easy.CTRL+U does NOT revert things to your previous multiple layers.If you've saved saved your file, next time you have to tediously re-create all your previous layers from scratch.CTRL+Z does revert to multiple layers, just as long as you haven't already saved the document.
I think I did something unintentionally awhile back so that now every time I group or ungroup objects on a layer, the layer they are in collapses. For the life of me, I can't find anything on what keystroke I may have done (if it was a keystroke) that resulted in this happening.

I get the impression that you should group the relevant layers, so that its easier to align them or clip them of outline them or whatever.. Which would be great, because Im always having difficulties with shape layers that go outside their bounds.. and adding multiple clipping masks seem to be a lot of work..

Well my computer was freezing up and I had to restart Gimp, I thought I'd only be loosing a few minutes of work cause I had saved VERY recently. I re opened Gimp and suddenly...I can only see the group I was working with. The latest work is there but all my other layers are gone... It was saved as an xcf file
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you have several objects grouped, and then you combine them all on a single object, the resulting object is placed inside the same group. This seems bogus, since is not possible to create a group of a single object.
Test case:Create 4 rectangles.Select them all and group them (ctrl+g)Select the group and combine all objects (ctrl+alt+dnarrow)
What I expect:A single object floating on the canvas
What I get:The same group but with a single object inside.

The task being, trying to erase part of a simple shape dragged onto the page from the tool bar. When I use the eraser, it deletes what i am trying to delete, but leaves a trail of the erasers path. This is probably very basic stuff, but I am at my whits end to work this simple problem out.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy problem is when i place PSD file into illustrator, it opens up "Photoshop Import Option" menu, which lets me choose either:
(1) convert photoshop layers to objects (or)
(2) Flatten photoshop layers to a single image
All other options are greyed out (meaning i cannot select them). The above 2 options will embed the image into illustrator, thus when i update in photoshop, they will not auto update.
I dont have this problem in the past (which means i dont get this menu when i use the place function) but it just poped up the last week.But when i open OLD illustrator files which have PSD images not embeded, i am able to edit the PSD and illustrator will auto update.
it is really frustrating to keep placing PSD files everytime when i have changes.
Is there a setting that allows grouped objects from different layers to be ungrouped and they return to their original layers?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have a guge artwork and i need to select a small groups (around 10-100) of objects from about 4000 overlayed objects and then group'em/split-to-layers for usability (This is a human body infographics for medical institute) There IS NO way selecting them from canvas because they are overlayed, and sometimes not visible at all. in CS5 there was a feature to select multiple objects by Alt+drag selection icon on the most right in the Layers Panel. Now the duplication mode turns-on when i try to perform it. So.. Ho do i select multiple object without need to click through thousands of them? (i need drag-select)

Sometimes, after moving stuff around (groups, layers or artboards), I notice that hidden objects didn't move with everything else.
How this can be if no objects are locked ?I cannot make this happen on purpose with a simple example and it is really annoying not to be sure that everything was moved properly.
Having trouble moving objects between layers by simply dragging the right-hand dot to a new layer? CS6 won't let me drag the dot on any kind of selected art from any kind of file I've tried..
Click the name of the desired layer in the Layers panel. Then choose Object > Arrange > Send To Current Layer. Drag the selected-art indicator , located at the right of the layer in the Layers panel, to the layer you want. But method #2 doesn't work at all for me. In fact, the cursor doesn't even change when I mouse over the selected-art indicator dot.
I have a single file with couple objects on different layers. When I copy/paste into other files, the objects seem to be grouped and layer information disappeared. Can I move around objects with layer setting as well?

I'm trying to upload an AVI file to make a GIF, but whenever I go to File-Import-Video Frames to Layers all of my layers are blank. When I tried to play the click in QuickTime it told me to download an extension or something. I downloaded Xvid, but still it's not working.

Today I opened a PSE file to carry on working on it, and the layers panel was blank, even though it has several layers. I opened a jpg and tried to create a new layer, and nothing shows up in the layers panel. I don't remember changing anything between last night and today. Is PSE corrupt?

And if I hide every single layer you would think I'd see the checkboard background. Nope! Not even that appears. My colleague tried opening up my files on his copy of CS6 and the files work fine. I've checked and my version of Photoshop CC is up-to-date.
View 2 Replies View RelatedEvery once in a while I print that has two side-by-side images on one piece of paper. My usual routine is to create a new document that is larger than the two images--say, 10x8 (horizontal) with a transparent background and the same resolution as the two images that I'll be placing on the canvas (say, two 4x3's). Then I simply click on the image I want to move and drag it from its layers palette onto the blank background canvas, and move/edit/size as needed.
when I drag an image over to the blank canvas, it assumes the size of the entire canvas. so I just have the image... enlarged. With no background canvas. when I click on the new image (the one dragged to the canvas), all of the editing commands are grayed out. So I cannot resize or move it.I'm on CS5 (mac)
When I try to access illustrator, photoshop etc. the file opens and then the Registration box opens (I think that is what it is) on top but is blank. The box title is Adobe Design Suite Standard CS3, only the minimize button is live. I cannot edit or work on the art work as nothing in the menu is live and selection tools don't work correctly. When I first open files they appear blank but the artwork appears if I increase or decrease the image size so they are there! - but I can't work on them. I always clicked 'later' on the register box before but can't do that now and it is blocking everything. I am running mac OSX 10.5.8 - I saw some info on a forum about finding the file for registration and ticking 'never' so it should never open but it was all for windows and I could not follow it on mac or find any equivalent file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator for a few year now, but I've never had this problem before. Recently, I went to open up some files I had been working on. The problem was, when they opened, the files were blank. There was nothing on them.
When I open pdf and eps files, they're fine, it's just ai files that open up blank.
I ran a quick test where I created a new file and saved both as an ai and eps file. I closed it and quit Illustrator. I then re strated the program and opened the test file, and lo and behold, the ai file opened up blank, but the eps file was fine.

I've got a million years experience with PS, PSP, various CAD programs. This is actually more of a drafting project but that shouldn't matter. I've got separate layers for certain guides and lines and text and that's about it. So I need to send something out for review.
Export or Save As as [ANYTHING], pdf, png, jpg, 'web,' even tried swf, creates a correct -size- image, but the only -content- is the one -last- -layer- that I created which happened to be text.
So just for fun I deleted that last layer and now it exports a blank image of the correct size.
I tried specifically Selecing the items I want exported, result = same blank image.
I don't see any 'flatten' type function as in PS that might crunch everything down to one layer.
I've aparently got something either enabled or disabled that tells it to 'draw nothing.'
I don't see any facility here to include an ai file with this Q. I could put it up somewhere else but I rather doubt they'll allow a '*.ai' so would have to go through the renaming stuff both upload and download. And if they have an 'file inspector' of any kind it'll be disallowed anyway.
For some reason, when I export to jpg all I end up with is a blank page. On my desktop, I can see the little picture on the icon, but when I click on it, only a blank white page comes up.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a customer that sent me some Illustrator files (.ai) that, when I open them, they open with just a blank window and a box with no fill or stroke around the outside of the document. I am using Illustrator CS4 and I suspect this may be an Illustrator CS6 document but I didn't get any warnings when I opened it so I'm not sure. (I also don't know what version of Illustrator the original creator is using). The document sizes are large (35MB +) so there should be SOME content in them. I've tried making sure nothing is hidden and there are no layers that are turned off. I've also tried opening the files in Acrobat CS4 with no luck.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI edited a couple images in Photoshop for postcards to be printed, I converted them to CMYK and then saved as PDFs. I then tried to open them in Illustrator to finish up the project, but when I tried to place the images a box pops up that says "unknown error has occured" and when I try and open the images, all you can see is a blank artboard.
