Jul 12, 2011Any way to turn a 2d elevation drawing of a building into a 3d model? Im guessing its proberly not very easy as there are no z values? Am i right in thinking that?

Feb 8, 2012I am attempting to use the Indiana Spatial Data Portal's 2005 Digital Elevation Model data to create a 3D contour map. The provided ZIP files each include: TIF, TFW, RRD, and AUX. The TFW and AUX files appear to be insignificant metadata. MAPIIMPORT fails to insert the GeoTIFF. You can download it yourself by going here, go to Single FIle Download on the left-hand side, then click anywhere on the map, then click again anywhere on the map. You are given a list of datasets. Download the dataset labeled "2005 IndianaMap Digital Elevation Model."

Jun 11, 2013How do I model (or calculate) the fewest welds/fittings required to change angle and elevation in a pipe run, as shown in Option1 below.
For this example the constants are: 8" standard steel pipe, one of the fittings is a standard butt weld 45 (12" radius), bend angle is 70 degrees, and the elevation change is 9". The custom fitting is cut from a standard 8" long radius 90.
Note: Option2 is just shown for reference, I'm only interested in solving Option1

AutoCad :: Calculating And Drawing Vehicle Turning Circles?
Jan 24, 2013I am designing a piazza that most types of vehicles need to circumnavigate. On a scaled location plan, I would like to draw the scaled turning circles of cars and lorries - especially emergency vehicles.
I have the Metric Handbook beside me which has typical 90 degree turns drawn but it is not obvious how they were drawn in the first place.
I have all the vehicle dimensions that I need, I just need to know how to calculate and draw the geometry.

May 17, 2012I have a drawing which is referencing a .ipn model, the .ipn model has all of it's trail line invisible however the drawing is showing them all visible. What I am trying to do is find a simple and quick way to turn off the visibility of ALL the trail lines in the drawing without having to pick out each one and ajust manually, The model .ipn is quite complicated and has many trails on it so I really need a way to turn off the visibility of these in the drawing.

Revit :: Model Lines On Elevation
Feb 26, 2014I am in the process of drawing up an existing building and firstly am setting up with the building mass. I have managed to get the main bodys of the building done and the main roof.The problem now is that when i switch too the east or west elevations to add mass for the roofs on the adjoining wings of the building it wont let me see the model lines when i draw them in the screen i just get an error message " None of the created elements are visible in Elevation: East View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings. "I have my reference line set not far from the building and it seemed fine when i done the roof from the north and south views for the main building. I can see the model lines when i switch too 3D views but i cant create the mass from there.

Jul 28, 2011My problem is trying to move the project model to a new elevation some 1000+ feet higher than the 0'0" schematic design elevation. When using the "shared" solution, it will work for the model but not for the Topo as the topo is also tied to the Project base point, so when one uses shared it also moves the topo map 1000+ feet higher. I'm trying to find a way where the project elevation can be adjusted to the base point elevation so both topo and model elevations coordinate with each other. It's a 4 level project with many exterior retaining wall levels. I'm almost to the point of doing a full copy of the project to the clipboard and then importing it at the level 1000+ feet higher.

Aug 28, 2012I'm looking to change an elevation of a survey point within a drawing. I can see where it is possible to manually unlock the points from the Survey Database to allow the user to edit the point. I'm not seeing a method or property in the API Help for 2013 to do the unlocking with code.
Also is it possible to convert a Survey Point to a regular Cogo Point through the code? Or do I have to delte the point and then recreate it as a COGO point? I think this will be my work around if the above doesn't work.

Dec 7, 2012Is it possible to rotate the point labels when working with point files from an elevation Survey in Ciivil 3D? When activating the labels visibility they are horizontal, but when I rotate the drawing to a side view I am can´t see them.
So far I was working with Autocad (importing a dxf). Is there a way to rotate at the same time all the points labels, wich in this case are just text items?

I have a line drawing of a simple object that I would like to convert into a shape.
I have figured out how to cut the shape itself out of the original image using the magic wand select tool thing and altering the tolerance. So I have the cut-out shape on a transparent layer in a .psd file. All well and good.
I looked up "shapes" in the help center, and it says this:
"To convert type to shapes
When you convert type to shapes, the type layer is replaced by a layer with a vector mask. You can edit the vector mask and apply styles to the layer; however, you cannot edit characters in the layer as text."
It continues:
"Select a type layer, and choose Layer > Type > Convert To Shape".
Everything was going swimmingly untill that point - I go to the Layer menu - but "Type" is greyed out and therefore inaccessible.
I then did a search for "type layer" to find out what a type layer was - it says:

After you create a type layer ...
tell me what a type layer is (I figure it has something to do with font, but I don't see how this relates to my line drawing), how to create one, or how to get my drawing into a type layer so I can convert it to a shape!

It's easy enogh to add the letters but the simple equation of elevation - 4 inches eludes me.

A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue

Nov 25, 2013As this software continues to change it's behavior of function over nite. I am assuming due to new updates in inventor. I can no longer get my drawing to update per changes made to the model. This started about 2 weeks ago.
Change are completed perfectly, I open the drawing and it still has the old model represented. When I right on the view and open the model. Model contains all of my changes, but the drawing does not seem to care or notice that changes have been made and saved. I even closed inventor and reopened.
Even though I'm paid by the hour I really do not want to delete all views and start all over.
So the only answer is to delete all views replace them re dimension them and of course add any time consuming sketches.
10-15 minutes change now is going to take 3 hours. WHY can't autodesk make a stable piece of software?

Apr 20, 2012I have received a drawing that is only showing in the first layout tab on a contractor's template. The drawing is in a viewport of course. The drawing does not show in the model space.
1. Is it possible to send a drawing only in the Layout tab?
2. Is it possible for me to do something to view the drawing in model space and how is it done?
3. Could it simply be a compatibility issue between the contractor's.

Feb 27, 2013I have been using Autocad 2000i LT for a number of years now but with limitations.(self tought of a fag packet) I am trying to get it to work for me rather than me work for it! Normally i use it for doing for producing panel wiring drawings, the way i normally do this is have a drawing on layer 1 then copy paste for additional layers, though this works ok, when i need to change eg date / site ref i have to change it on every page. I know by doing the basics on the model this then transfers to the other layouts. Plots set up for A4 landscape, on model / layer scale set to 1:1 I do drawing on model then when choose new layer the drawing scales down even though set 1:1 paper size same ect.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Get Model Sketches On All Models In Drawing?
Nov 26, 2013I am making a control console with a bunch of plastic tags on my pilot devices. I use the sketch text tool to write the label on each tags.
When comes the time to make my drawing, I get my model sketch and they show on my 2D, no problem.
Well today, it seems Inventor 2014 just gave up on giving me my sketches. Here is the console view of of the lid with the tag texts showing:
Now let's go over the second lid on the same plan and get my model sketch to see the rest of my text.
Click on it and ....
Nothing! still no text.
