AutoCAD Inventor :: Use RomanS Font On All Drawings
Apr 22, 2013
At my office we use RomanS font on all ACAD drawings. We control the thickness of the font by giving it a color, and that color gives it a thickness based upon our pen styles.
In Inventor I can find no such way to do this. The only option is to make it Bold. The Bold version is still not thick enough for our drawing standards. I dont want to use a different font. I want to keep it the same for aesthetic and continuity with all drawing reasons.
I also found out that by using the RomanS_IV25 font, that it shows up Bolder than just RomanS. However I want the text to be thicker than what RomanS_IV25 makes it.
There is also the secondary issue of when I use the Export to PDF feature while in an .idw, Inventor seems to disregard that any font is BOLD, and it makes it all regular thickness. I found that if I print and select a PDF writer as the printer, I dont have this issue, but this added step is an inconvenience.

When using TEXT or DTEXT I can add centerline, 1/4, or 1/2 symbols while using the ROMANS font.
It would make sense to me that when I am using MTEXT, this should apply. However when I try to insert the symbols this is what happens: My text style stays the same, but the font gets changed to ISOCPEUR and symbols have a bold type appearance.

We have just recently updated our templates to use a new TTF font. We are a multi national office, and are running various machines in both Australia and China. We are all using windows 7. Autocad are all full versions but vary between 2010 and 2012.
We are trying to convert survey drawings from a standard font to the ttf, but for some reason, in the Chinese office only the decimal points disappear after the conversion. The same drawing when sent to the Australian office works fine and the decimal points are there. What to try here, as I am in Australia and can't even reproduce the issue the chinese office is having.

I got a work that I have to change around 1200 drawings from Microsoft Visio to AutoCad 2009. One annoying thing is that the Visio drawings got Arial as text style and my company want everything in their own textstyle. So at the moment I single click all text bar and change the style, there must be a faster way to fix this.

I'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.

I want to draw operation drawings, I think, ı must do this like that; I must draw one ipt, and later I must draw drawings from this ipt, and idw's
1.drawing (operation); rectangular prism,
2.drawing (operation); rectangular prism and rectangular cutting,
3.drawing (operation); rectangular prism, rectangular cutting and hole,
4.drawing (operation); rectangular prism, rectangular cutting, hole and hexagon cutting,
when I change dimensions of rectangular prism, all four operation drawings must change, so I can't change location of end of part in idw's browser, but I can change location of end of part in ipt's browser, I want to change location of end of part in idw's browser, can I do this? or alternative solution...
I don't want to make, four ipt for each operations... I added a picture...

know if we could put for example the Building of our Assembly in some 2D drawings as a "Reference" object and as a non reference object in other 2D drawings?
In some 2D drawings we don't need the whole building, and just with the references is enough, but in some other views, we need to see the building so we can represent the real obstacles we have or to show how the custumer should do the pipe implantation

I am slowly learning about ilogic, and have created parts and assemblies that are run by rules. My next question is, what exactly can ilogic do for drawings? I've looked at the wikihelp, but I am not a natural at programming and I need more than a list of functions with brief descriptions to get me started.
I'm looking for code snippets, other discussions, tips, tricks, and/or tutorials to get info what I can do with ilogic and the API that can automate parts of the drawing process.

The solutions that I have found to get an assembly bom on an assembly drawing are:
1. insert an assembly into an assembly.
2. make a virtual part or derived part.
3. make extra fields in the part and have the BOM column look at alternative iproperty fields.
In a part file that has a family table I want the configurations of some casted parts and some machined parts. the casted parts will have a drawing but no BOM, the machined parts will have a drawing and a BOM.
Then in an assembly file that has a family table I want configurations that use the configurations of the part file. Each of these assemblies will have a drawing that has a BOM that will call out the part that is is made from.
In other words I will have a casting that will be machined so I will need a casting drawing and a machine drawing that has a BOM telling what casting to use.
On top of that when I try to make a family table in an assembly I get a message "THE BILL OF MATERIALS CONTAINS VIEWS OR PROPERTIES NOT SUPPORTED BE CONFIGURATIONS. OONLY STRUCTURED FIRST LEVEL BOM VIEWS ARE SUPPORTED. THE BOM WILL BE CHANGED DURING CONVERSION".

With iAssemblies is it possible to somehow also generate a dwg from it as well? Or would you have to use copy design?
So... depending on the configuration, I would need a main assembly drawing, and a few detail dwgs.

I thought when you created a part and filled out the iproperties description field and created a drawing of that part that the parts list would read the iproperties description field and put that in the parts list description field.
Then when you create an assembly that included that part and filled out the iproperties description field in the assembly and created a drawing of that assembly that the parts list description field would be filled out be the assembly iproperties description field.
Instead the description field of the parts list in the assembly drawing is filled out using the iproperties description field of the part not the assembly.

Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?

I have an assembly that is a general model with different modules that all are iAssemblies.
With this model I can speed up the design process at the company I am working for.
In the model I only choose the correct member for the iAssemblies and the assembly updates correctly and just with a couple of clicks I have made a configuration of all the modules.
Now, I would like to take it a step further and have the drawing, for the specific configuration, generated automatically.
In the drawing I would like to have the master assembly presented in sheet 1 and the modules presented separately in different sheets, all sheets with BOM lists.
Is this possible to do?
(Next step is to export all the BOM lists to an excel document that can be sent to the product co-ordinator to build up the database system)

I have done a new Title Block in our drawing templates.
It only works in New drawings if I open an old drawing I must "Copy/paste" the new Title Block into the browser to the left But I want all our old drawings to use the new Title Block.
Is there a way to have the new Title as default on all old drawings?

What's the best way to ensure that all the drawings for my project are updated if I make changes to the Style settings on one of them? I've been putting every sheet into a single drawing file, but now I'm up to about 50 sheets and it takes about 40 seconds for each save, even if I only made a single minor change since the last save. I don't have any iLogic that could be causing this.
So I'd like to split the sheets up into multiple.dwgs, but I want changes I make my Styles to be reflected in all drawings. Can I create an "external" stye file that all drawings pull their style from? Or will I have to export/import to each drawing every time I make a change?

In Solidworks they had something called custom properties that were generally setup in the models where you had the property names and then values would be filled in to automatically populate drawing titleblocks. I found this, but I can't get the drawing description to keep changes and update the drawing.

How possible it is to print drawings using a VBA script. I'm interested in forcing print size and the best fit setting.
Searching for printing/plotting yields more results about saving to dwg/pdf than printing to paper.

I am having some issues concerning updating drawings. When a part (.IPT) is placed in a drawing, everything is fine (ie. the views represented in the drawing are up-to-date). Yet, when I make a change to the part (something as small as a dimensional change) it does not translate through to the drawing. This is also the case for iProperties.
I have been playing around for a while now, but have had no luck. The part is also an iPart, but this shouldn't matter.

In the idw of my assembly hidden detail is turned off although there is still sub assemblies shown through the main container. Also when there is a section these sub assemblies are show with dotted lines an overlap components they are behind.
My questions are
1. Why are they showing through components they are behind.
2. Why are the lines dashed

This is happening on both 2012 and 2014, the workflow was what I followed offline to try and replicate an issue on a live project: Start a new partDraw a rectangle 10m x 10m fully constrainedExtrude by 10mSaveStart a new .dwg format drawing (though same results if using out of the box .idw)Place a top base view of the partSection the part anyway or direction in such a way not to infer any constraintsSection properties set to include slice and slice the whole partPlace the sectionEdit the sketch of the section lineApply a "fix" constraint to the line itselfFinish the sketch I then get an error saying the sketch does not contain a valid section line and the section disappears
he section line sketchRemove the fix constraint from the lineFinish sketch My section then reappears
Edit the section line sketchUse a "fix" constraint on each end of the lineFinish the sketch
My section remains. We're experiencing a lot of problems of section lines and therefore sections disappearing even though we're not directly applying fix constraints, I was wandering if Inventor applies a fix constraint should geometry that a section line is constrained to disappears.

I cannot get a 'centerline' (symbols panel/centerline) to create. I can use all the others (centerline bisector, centermark and centered pattern) without fail. This first one (with the single line) does not EVER give me the option to 'create' when I am done clicking my points, its always greyed out and I dont know why.
how to make a centerline...select that option, click here, click there, when done right click and 'create'. Doesnt work.

I have a fixture that will have a symmetrically opposite fixture. Is there a way to copy/mirror the fixture in vault that would include the drawings? The new fixture would also be in a new project.
I was thinking I would copy the entire design in vault to a new project. I could then open it up and mirror the entire assembly. Would that work?

Basically, our company produces 2D schematics of plumbing/electrical layouts as the result of the engineering department's calculations. We are now starting to produce 3D drawings of the assemblies for the benefit of space planning and eventual fitting.
As time goes by, we are realising it may be beneficial and time-saving to create the 2D schematics 'on the fly' from the 3D drawings as we find that often a change to the 2D schematic is required to accomodate some physical constraint only discovered when working in 3D.
Is there a good workflow which enables the production of 2D schematics (using all the standard symbols) from 3D Inventor drawings?

I have a problem with aligning the model. At the beginning I could not see drawings in correct position after putting them from assembly window to drawing one( please see the screenshot). I solved it in the drawing mode( I set them straight so I can do engineering drawings), but I am wondering if there is a possibility to set any object in assembly mode horizontally vertically so in the drawing mode it will not show incorrectly after adding them. Also I made a drawing file for Auto Cad mechanical and parts are also set tilted.

My issue is that whenever I edit a sub-assembly or a part within an assembly, whether it's from within the assembly by right clicking and choosing "edit" or by opening the sub-assembly/part and editing it separately, once I return to the top assembly, it does not update constraints to reflect the changes. Say I constrain the top of a part to be flush with something in the assembly. Then I edit the part and make it shorter. Once I return to the assembly, the part has shortened but it is no longer flush as it was meant to be. It is lower with respect to the plane it should be flush to. If I double-click the "flush" constraint and then click the check mark, it's like it reminds Inventor the constraint is there and the part hops up where it should be.
Is there any way I can click an "update" button or something so Inventor automatically checks for part changes and re-constrains everything after I make changes to sub-assemblies or parts? I found a "Refresh" button and added it to my Quick Access Toolbar, but it does absolutely nothing.
I often have the same issue with sheets in my .idw files; they do not update once I edit a .ipn or another view in the sheet. Is there a similar solution for this instance as well?

Currently in autocad we start the print/plot command and then the command line shows options for the drawing stamp. There are several options including for approval, approved for construction, test only and others. When the appropriate number associated with the correct drawing stamp it lets you pick an insertion point and inserts the drawing stamp with a current date under the stamp to show when the drawing was plotted. After the drawing stamp is inserted it returns to the print/plot dialog.
If any IV users have a similar drawing stamp with date that is put on their drawings, I would like to hear how it was accomplished.
I have played with a sketched symbol and with ilogic can insert the symbol and start the print/plot command but I do not know how to make the stamp selection in ilogic automatic with a parameter or iproperty.
If ilogic is the way to go with this or any other options to accomplish the drawing stamp insertions with current date.

We use to color components in idw drawings very often. And when we have drawings of large assemblies we lose a lot of time for that. Usually we select the parts from views (having "Part Priority" in Filter Selection), right click and from the properties we change the color.
I was thinking if there could be faster ways to do it. For example to create a command (which later should accessed via a button on keyboard) that will call the colors window in the components properties, having the part already selected.
Probably I need a .vba code or an ilogic rule to create this command.
