In Solidworks they had something called custom properties that were generally setup in the models where you had the property names and then values would be filled in to automatically populate drawing titleblocks. I found this, but I can't get the drawing description to keep changes and update the drawing.
View 9 RepliesI want to set up my drawings so that the title block displays properties from the model. I want to set this up so there will be drawing properties to extract into Vault. So I want to know what other Inventor and Vault users are doing to get model properties into Inventor drawings: Using model properties in the title block and nothing to extract in Vault or Copy model properties so Vault has data to extract.
I want to know what the best in class practice is? What are others doing? I do not want to use iLogic I was out of the box Inventor functionality.
Is there or will there be a way in which I can apply hatch properties in one section view to hatches in another view?

reasoning is that then engineers wont have to check drawings anymore for the guess work involved in matching the part balloon to each individual part in the assembly being called out.
I can then focus on creating a BOM that shows the different item#'s and the user can quickly go through it.
How can I add a custom layer for ballooning changes on inventor drawings while the parts are being developed. The changes need to be tracked. After the parts are released the ballooning is removed from the drawing and the basic revsions take over after that. It would be great to be able to do the ballooning of the changes with a specific line that is placed on this layer. Is there a way to accomplish this?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am looking for ways to add actual custom materials - not (just) in appearance, but in actual material properties (elasticity, etc). I have looked at wiki and searched this forum (and others) but I haven't been able to find anything of the sort... but the properties of the few aluminium alloys available are not those that we use... besides that we need them at specific temperature ranges (and honestly, I haven't been able to find any temperature controls in the FEA yet either.) And.. is there a more direct, faster, way to assign materials then [big I Pro button] > iPropperties > Physical? Right click on the solid and selecting "material" seems so much more ideal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am busy constructing my own Structural Shapes Library in Inventor 1012.During the Authoring and Publishing step I mapped Cross Section Properties (Ixx, Iyy, Torsional Section Modulus, Torsional Rigidity Modulus etc) to set parameters in my iPart table.
I have noticed that once this part is then used in Frame Generator to create a simple beam and then analyzed with the Frame Analysis tool, the analysis tool uses the geometry of the part to calculate these properties.
Is there a way that I can force Inventor to use the properties in the iPart Tables? I am worried that any errors in creating the cross section geometry will be carried into the Cross Section Properties calculated by Inventor.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I input data into title block I want to go Field txt->custom and have some rows multiple, in repeating order, I don't have control over that.
Example:
I want:
first row: rev #,
second row: by,
third row rev #,
fourth row: by,
and so on.
Right now I created prompt line "rev (1)", "by (1)", "rev (2)" and so on, but this still wont show the right order in custom props.
Within the drawing title block we have a 'Text' of type 'Custom Properties - Model' which pulls in a custom iprop from a model which is the models finished weight. This is a common way of auto populating title box entries.
The problem is that the sheet populates the text with the info related to the first viewport placed upon the drawing.
Whilst fine when planned for properly, I quite often encounter upon large multisheet detail drawings, that a user when detailing an IAM, will have forgotten to put the IAM view down first, especially later in the drawing series where the IAM is not required and the user is detailing IPT's.
What I am looking for is a way to change which viewport the border properties are related to ideally, so that if a user has forgotten to place the IAM but has placed 20 IPT's down, I could place an IAM outside of the maximum area, as the 21st object but fool Inventor into thinking this was the first viewport placed down, thus populating the border info correctly.
I don't know of a way to do this currently, either with current Inventor functionality, or by programmatic approach - our current fix is to have the user create another drawing sheet, place the IAM outside the maximum area, copy all his IPT viewports across from the first sheet, then delete the first sheet. Is it possible to change the object order of placed viewports with less disruption?
I am having trouble with mass prop exporting to sheemetal parts. It did work for 2012 now its not happening iv2013. service pak 1.1

Right now I’m using iLogic so I can change the text in User Parameters and that updates the embossed text. So where I’m having an issue is the Export Parameters tab is grayed out so I can’t get it work with my custom properties.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAs I am creating drawings for parts/assemblies, I have to fill out the customers name and the job number which I currently do on every drawing I create by right clicking on the Drawing name in the tree, going to iProperties, and then filling out the fields I need.
I have to do this for every sheet. Sometimes over 100 sheets per job.
Is there a way, within the project file maybe, to have these fields be already filled in with the customers name and job number?
Every new project file I make is a new customer. So I'm wondering if there is someway to tweak the project file.
the only property I can actually define for each individual sheet (for use in iLogic, text fields, etc.) is the sheet name. This is extremely limiting. Each sheet in my drawings has several properties of its own--sheet number (most importantly), what part is ON the sheet, the designer, the revision, etc. I would love to be able to use each of these in labels on the sheet, for example, a text box with "<Sheet #> - <Part> (<Designer>)". The only possible way I could do something like this is to use the sheet number as the Sheet Name, and then use that value in the sheet's text labels, headings, and title block. However, I want to be able to use descriptive names for the Sheet Name, plus that's just one property.
Is there any way I can create and define multiple custom properties for individual sheets? I was exploring the idea of using iLogic, using the ActiveSheet command, possibly, and "tricking" inventor into creating properties for a given sheet.

Is there a way that we can set the view label in the style library to show custom/user Properties?
We have set our iam/ipt templates to have some custom properties which we wish to display in the view label when the view is created however there this no way to add these properties to the label.
I find this a little strange as you can add these user Properties to the parts list in the style library? (I've added some screen caps to show what I am talking about)
I have a dozen of drawings each with a layer named LOGIC. I have modified layer properties (default color, line style, etc.) on one of them and I want to replicate these properties to the others.

However, the drawing is exploded. Now, I want to get the point properties and surface properties from this file, but it seems like it isn't the original file and it has been edited. This file also does not come with a point file or surface file. Is there a method to get the point, surface or elevation properties from this drawing?
Also, I have heard that you can create a new drawing and create a surface to read the surface properties of the drawing. Is that possible?
I have 4500 OS mapping tiles which i need to convert the colors to one single color rather than the varied layer colors they have at present. Obviously doing this manually will take a long time.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSay I have 10 .dwg files. Each .dwg file has a printable layout, a load of geometry, and in particular, a layer called "Animals" with some geometry on it. During .dwg creating some of the CAD engineers turned off the "Animals" layer in MSPACE and saved the drawing.
I now want to come along as the reviewer and plot these 10 .dwg files all with the "Animals" layer turned on. Currently I'd have to go into every .dwg file and turn back on the "Animals" layer, and then plot.
Any lisp routine on how to change "Drawing Properties" (fields via Mtext) on multiple single drawing files?
There are several instances where we would need to take a project to create another one and simply change the title block description.
As of now, we are opening each drawing (there could be hundreds) and modifiying the drawing properties on each drawing to change the customer name and other project descriptions.
These are not attributes, but fields. I've researched alot on here and couldnt find anything.

What I'm interested in is finding a method of connecting several properties from several Autocad drawings to a single table. I would create several custom properties in each drawing and use some of them to fill the boxes in the drawing itself (already implemented) and some of them to fill the table which could later be printed or used in some other manner (maybe even combined with an ERP software interface). Some of the properties would be used both in the drawing and in the table. What I would really like to achieve is to be able to change the property values in the drawings by changing the values in the table and vice versa.
I know how to do it for one of the drawings but I don't know if it's possible to connect several? It doesn't have to be custom properties, it can also be a table in each of the drawing if it's easier to connect with a central table that way. I suppose the best way to gather all the drawings in one place would be to use Sheet Set Manager. A bit of a problem with the sheet set manager is that we have 5 layers set up for each of the drawings and I would like to import only one of them into the sheet set. The thing is picking them by hand would take time and that's the thing I wanted to avoid in the first place. Is there maybe an option to use only import the last active layer into the sheet set?
I’m currently in the process of creating new tool palettes and all the components blocks I’m storing, I know the weights of, is there a way to add a custom field in the properties box say the weight for example, so I know how much something will weigh by clicking on its properties .

I have been programming our document and version control values into the sheet set object, as a result the custom property list per drawing is getting a little large and is becoming a bit hard to manage. There are now properties with values that are no longer needed. Is there a way to delete or clear or maybe reset the customproperty bag per sheetset object / sheet object?

but when i get to "set" the new custom properties (which works normaly when updating a custom property or adding a custom property to a custom propertybag that I have not "cleared"), I am getting a object not set to an instance error...
Do I have to "recreate" the custom propertybag with the InitNew(ByVal pOwner as IAcSmPersist).
It took me a long time & effort to add all 190 custom sheet set properties (Our Frame/template is complex). When i found out that I could not re-order the sheet set custom properties I was really pleased.

We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose ;-)
We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.

I have a SSM set up with both Sheet Custom Properties and Sheet Set Custom Properties.
When I start a new project, i can populate both areas of the main SSM. I'll create my sheets and have them self populated by the "root" SSM settings (if you will)well now, lets say i need to change the date of the sheets from the past.. to the future submittal date. I set it in the "Sheet Custom Properties" in the "root" SSM and then I have to go to each sheet; right click --> Properties each sheet and change the custom properties.
Basically, is there a way to have the sheets (after created) to automatically update to the new date?
I have installed the autocad ObjectARX 2011 and .Net wizzard to start writing a .Net application for adding custom drawing parameters to all our acad drawings. I have found two issues detailed below. This is my first attempt at using c# with autocad so any pointers on what I am doing wrong will be well received.
1. If add the AcDbMgd.dll and AcMgd.dll references and set copy local to false as the documentation advises then I get a FileNotFoundException, could not load file or assembly 'acdbmgd'. If I set the copy local to true then the error goes away.
2. I tried using the code below to add a paramater but I get an exception on the first line System.TypeLoadException: Method 'CopyTo'.

I currently use code similar to Lee Ambrosius's 2009 AU handout that shows how to set/create custom properties. URL.... search for the header 'Adding Sheet Set and Sheet Properties'.
I have now accumulated numerous unused custom properties in my sheet set. I haven't been able to find a way to delete these additional custom properties.
Because I use multiple subsets with multiple sheets for printing, I would rather not have to go through all the sheets, store all the custom properties I need, destroy all the existing custom properties, and then re-create just the ones I need. how to delete individual custom properties.
