AutoCAD Inventor :: Copying Hatch Properties In Drawings?
Apr 19, 2011Is there or will there be a way in which I can apply hatch properties in one section view to hatches in another view?

View 5 RepliesI want to set up my drawings so that the title block displays properties from the model. I want to set this up so there will be drawing properties to extract into Vault. So I want to know what other Inventor and Vault users are doing to get model properties into Inventor drawings: Using model properties in the title block and nothing to extract in Vault or Copy model properties so Vault has data to extract.
I want to know what the best in class practice is? What are others doing? I do not want to use iLogic I was out of the box Inventor functionality.
When I make a drawing, often times page 1 will be the entire assembly and in subsequent pages (sheets), I will dimension each individual component, etc. In the "Name" field in my title block, I have it grabbing the "Title" and "Subject" iProperties. Just so happens, those fields are ALWAYS the same for each part as it is for the assembly.
What is the best way I can either
A) AUTOMATICALLY copy the "Title" and "Subject" iProperty fields from the assembly to EACH part that makes it up
or even BETTER
B) AUTOMATICALLY copy the "Title" and "Subject" information from sheet 1 to the same place on all subsequent sheets
Or BEST
C) Have the title block template pull that data from the assembly, EVEN IF only a singloe part is on the sheet.
In Solidworks they had something called custom properties that were generally setup in the models where you had the property names and then values would be filled in to automatically populate drawing titleblocks. I found this, but I can't get the drawing description to keep changes and update the drawing.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble while copying between drawings. I am attempting to merge a number of floor plans which are all saved as seperate drawings into 1 drawing. However whenever I copy the floor plan over to another drawing, some of the lines/objects seem to be displaced.
View 4 Replies View RelatedGot a strange problem when copying geometry that contains splines between drawings.
The image below shows the results, the white dashed line shows the copy result, the blue dots are the control points, and the red line shows the copy input.
It seems that the control points are correct, but the tangencies of those points, or control vertices are WAAAAAY out.
I also get the same result when inserting the geometry as a block..
I have been trying to figure out how to copy a Layout from one DWG to another. I know there are several threads about this, and I have tried the methods they reccomend, but I am having an unusual problem.
I have been trying to open a Layout by using the "from Template" option for creating a new Layout, then opening the DWG containing the desired Layout. It works, but everything drawn in model space ends up compressed into the lower left corner and there is nothing in model space. So, the paper space information from the Layout is being imported, but the drawing info is getting mixed up somehow.
I have tried using the Design Center with identical results.
How can know if entities are being manually copied and pasted between drawings.A thought is to add a GUID to each entities Xdata and check if the value is in the named object dictionary.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI am doing electrical drawings with the architect giving me an exported DWG from Vectorworks. I have XREF the background drawing that when opened is about 6 blocks of the building background and 2 blocks of the electrical devices.
Here is the problem: The architect sent me an updated DWG that only has the electrical updates without any backgrounds. My thought was to purge all and then select all the items and then copy with basepoint. Then open the original architects XREF drawing. Select those two electrical block, erase them (or move them to the size a fixed distance). Then paste as block from the other file. Then move the block to the correct location, explode, done.
Big problem: I just tons of this error in the command line referencing different block group numbers being ignored:
Duplicate definition of block Group-1265-1 ignored.
Then the block that was pasted added a background that wasn't in the old drawing and many of the items in that block was either missing or still had the old symbols. Can't figure out how to update the background with confidence that it is really updated with new information and not keeping old.
If I open a new drawing and paste that block in, everything comes in perfectly
We are copying our original files to a sub folder to make revisions that have only happened after bidding. We want to keep our original bid documents intact. I have created a sub folder called 'Confirmed Documents' and added Constructs, Sheets, Elements, etc.
I copied the files over and used the Reference Manager to repath the files. However, all of my schedules and room tags now use the 'NA' prefix because it is not reading the project information. How can i reconnect this folder to the project folder?
How do I copy a drawing from one dwg file into another without copying its layer properties along
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm a new user of AutoCAD. I am creating a template, but when I try to drag or copy and paste the layers. blocks, dimstyles, multileaderstyles, etc. from design center, a message pops up that the parameter is incorrect, or it would just not drag and drop. I have the original drawing open as instructed, but nothing seems to work.

I am having two problems with hatching.
1) I do not have as many hatch patterns available to me in the "Other Predefined" tab as my colleagues do on their computers. I also do not have custom hatch patterns listed.
2) The "Inherit Properties" button doesn't work on my computer so I cannot even match the hatch pattern if I copy a drawing in from another file.
This problem is making it difficult for me to finish my work in a timely manner as I have to run to someone else's computer when I need to hatch something.
Currently when I HATCH it is all 'Angle', with SCALE set to 1.0.
I have to do alot of hatching with 'Honey' SCALE of 0.5.
Can I preset this function or do I have to alter tis properties after it is drawn, every time?
Same hatch properties but different result! How come?
In the screenshots below, I got a hatch of the same properties, but the output in the screen is different!
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.
When doing a match properties from one hatch to another, I end up with two hatches having identical properties (pattern, scale, etc) but that look completely different. See the attached image.
I tried the old snapbase trick and also tried various hatch origin settings, but without success.
Background Hatch Color Properties? When using a background color in a hatch pattern... is it possible to set transparancy and/or screening options when using an *.stb file?
If I were using a *.ctb file it would be obvious, but I'm doing contract work for a client and am using their *.stb file, and I don't have the option of adding another option to their *.stb file.
Windows 7-64
8GB RAM
AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013
Why is it that whenever i use a command for pan and match properties, the hatch from the other areas do not display but when i exit the command the hatch is there. the problem is you cannot match the properties of from one hatch to another.
This happens in all drawings!
why is it that whenever i use a command for pan and match properties, the hatch from the other areas do not display or miss its visibility but when i exit the command the hatch is there. the problem is you cannot match the properties of from one point to another.
View 1 Replies View RelatedFor unknown reason the hatch pattern preview does not work on some drawings - I have tried turning HPQUICKPREVIEW off and on but this does not make any difference. Also the hatch palette images boxes are blank at times (I have to slect the update tool image to get them back). This only happens on some drawings (others work fine).
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two drawings, both in unit: meters, UCS world (however I think that doesn't matter). How come that a hatch with same scale appears denser in one drawing than the other?

I like to use inherit properties a lot when hatching. Now it also grabs the layer and I prefer that to be bylayer always, like before when this (imo useless) option was not implemented. Does any trick to get rid of this feature I don't want.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTypically when I click on the Set Origin button, all I then have to do is click on the page where I want the hatch origin to be, and everything works just fine.
I work on a shared computer. Start working this morning, and now when I click on the Set Origin button, it prompts me to inform it "SIngle or SUbobject?". And through a number of further selections, I can eventually get around to selecting my origin and having things shift around properly. But that really slows me up. Seems like one of the system variables got changed. I've doodled around a bit online, but haven't been able to find how to get things back to how they used to be.
And I tried opening a new page, restarting the program, etc., and the new way the button works has taken hold. I can't get it to reset. So on my computer (not working properly) when you click on the Set Origin button, the command line says "Command: _-hatchedit select hatch objects..select hatch objects: _S" then it says "ambiguous response, please clarify" "SIngle or SUbobject?"
On the computers that are working properly it only displays the "select hatch objects: _O" and doesn't show the _S part.
I have a dozen of drawings each with a layer named LOGIC. I have modified layer properties (default color, line style, etc.) on one of them and I want to replicate these properties to the others.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a site layout and came across a problem. The drawing that I have has the site layout with all the points and contour lines included. However, the drawing is exploded. Now, I want to get the point properties and surface properties from this file, but it seems like it isn't the original file and it has been edited. This file also does not come with a point file or surface file. Is there a method to get the point, surface or elevation properties from this drawing?
Also, I have heard that you can create a new drawing and create a surface to read the surface properties of the drawing. Is that possible?
I have 4500 OS mapping tiles which i need to convert the colors to one single color rather than the varied layer colors they have at present. Obviously doing this manually will take a long time.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSay I have 10 .dwg files. Each .dwg file has a printable layout, a load of geometry, and in particular, a layer called "Animals" with some geometry on it. During .dwg creating some of the CAD engineers turned off the "Animals" layer in MSPACE and saved the drawing.
I now want to come along as the reviewer and plot these 10 .dwg files all with the "Animals" layer turned on. Currently I'd have to go into every .dwg file and turn back on the "Animals" layer, and then plot.
Any lisp routine on how to change "Drawing Properties" (fields via Mtext) on multiple single drawing files?
There are several instances where we would need to take a project to create another one and simply change the title block description.
As of now, we are opening each drawing (there could be hundreds) and modifiying the drawing properties on each drawing to change the customer name and other project descriptions.
These are not attributes, but fields. I've researched alot on here and couldnt find anything.
The drawing is attached.
What I'm interested in is finding a method of connecting several properties from several Autocad drawings to a single table. I would create several custom properties in each drawing and use some of them to fill the boxes in the drawing itself (already implemented) and some of them to fill the table which could later be printed or used in some other manner (maybe even combined with an ERP software interface). Some of the properties would be used both in the drawing and in the table. What I would really like to achieve is to be able to change the property values in the drawings by changing the values in the table and vice versa.
I know how to do it for one of the drawings but I don't know if it's possible to connect several? It doesn't have to be custom properties, it can also be a table in each of the drawing if it's easier to connect with a central table that way. I suppose the best way to gather all the drawings in one place would be to use Sheet Set Manager. A bit of a problem with the sheet set manager is that we have 5 layers set up for each of the drawings and I would like to import only one of them into the sheet set. The thing is picking them by hand would take time and that's the thing I wanted to avoid in the first place. Is there maybe an option to use only import the last active layer into the sheet set?
