AutoCAD Inventor :: Mass Properties For Parts And Assemblies

Jun 15, 2012

I initially entered a few overrides for mass on some parts that I have included in a large assembly. However I now want the calculated values of mass to be used and not the overridden values. I go to the part file, erase my value, and click update and it now shows the calculated mass for that part. However in the assembly it still shows the initial overridden value even though I have tried updating it. How do I use the calculated mass values in my assembly?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Migrating Custom CC Library From 2013 To 2014

May 28, 2013

I have upgraded to Inventor 2014 and I'm having trouble transferring my custom content center library (local machine, no server).  My understanding was that I copy the .idcl and .idz files from the old folder to the 2014 folder, open the projects dialog box, configure content center libraries button, and use the update tool button.

However, in the configure libraries dialog box my custom library doesn't even show up in the list along with my ANSI, ISO, "My Library", etc. Restarting Inventor didn't work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Physical / Mass Properties

Nov 8, 2011

I have recently made a bucket for chain (linked) and was looking to put the chain in the bucket for visual purposes and to see if the capacity of the bucket is correct.

I can get the chain linked together, however when rotated round it passes through another piece of chain.

Is there a way in inventor to tell a part/assembly of it’s physical/mass properties? I know you can make something mild steel and get weight etc, however if not constrained it still passes through as if it’s a ghost.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mass Properties Will Not Display In Text Box

Jul 9, 2012

I'm having trouble getting mass properties of an assembly to display in an .idw.  I've tried it 2 diffent ways, custom properties-model "Totalmass" where I type the mass and physical properties-model "mass" where it's automatic with update.. Nothing shows, not even N/A, but in another idw (different assembly) it works. Both text boxes are saved within a sketch that is part of a template. Both idw's use the same template. If I place text on the drawing it self it works.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Mass Properties Recalculated When Use Feature In IAM

Nov 21, 2013

To get net weight of my parts i have one template that uses the volume x density and to get the gross weight I use the real dimensions of the item (a rectangular plate  without any cutting, e.g.) and then calculate x density, this way i can get both weights, and how in the most of times I need the gross, I overwrite the MASS PROPERTIES of each part with my gross weight. It works fine because all the assemblies sum the MASS of each part (that is over writed by the gross weight).

Now my problem:

In many cases when I need to use the same part many times with just a few of different details, instead of copy the part and change it, I use the same part, and in the IAM I use one feature to make this part different (like a chamber, small extrudes or even holes). But now I realized when I do this (feature in the IAM), it doesn't sum all the MASS properties of each individual part anymore ... it recalculate all the mass with the new IAM volume (with all the features)...so, in my BOM I got all the parts with the correct gross weight, but my total mass comes with the NET weight (and considering that I need the GROSS, i got the wrong mass).

Is there a way to change the way that inventor overwrite this mass in the assemblies ? with Ilogic, or even some Inventor's option ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Mass Properties Update?

Aug 9, 2012

Is there any way to force an update of mass property values of a component from within an iLogic routine?

I am trying to produce a calibration chart showing the volumes of an irregular shaped object by taking incremental slices off the component and accessing the "volume" of the remaining portion, then writing the the results to an external file - All from within a "For - Next" loop.

The main routine works O.K. but the resultant chart only shows the original starting volume for each slice instead of the required reducing volumes.

I am a novice with iLogic and can only assume that I must somehow "update" the mass properties of the sliced object before reading its new volume on each pass.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Derived Parts And Mass

Aug 23, 2012

have one assy comprising of a valve, made in steel, an actuator made in aluminum, total weight combined is 36 kg.

I make this assy a derived ipt.. i have tried all the output options, single solid, multy solid and the weight is not the same.. since its a new ipt has its own material, ok makes sense.. .. So i use composite, i get the correct weight (yay), but now i cant turn the visibility off on the 2d drawing, in certain pipe spool view representations.

What is the correct procedure for turning multi material assys into an ipt.. to get the correct weights and get the drawings to work properly?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Calculate Mass Properties For Master Level

Oct 26, 2011

I am currently building an Iassembly and I keep running into this message whenever I go to save one of Iassembly members

It states " Do you want to calculate the mass properties for the master level of detail? if you select 'NO' Inventor will calculate the mass property for the currently active level of detail."

now when I go ahead and select yes or no, it goes ahead and places 4 BOM columns in my table with Default and Reference. What exactly does this mean? I keep deleting them and they keep coming back constantly adding more and more columns to my ipart table.

Since I am constantly suppresing and unsuppressing, adding and deleting components based on the configuration, I have to always be on another level of detail other the master detail correct?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ipart - Standard Parameter Column Change Depending On Custom Parameter Column

Jan 3, 2013

I am trying to publish to the CC a guide rail. The vendor of the rail gives me the option of entering the desired length of the rail. After that he gives me the option to choose between the length that I entered and a shorter and longer standard length witch can be delivered faster.

I want to do the same thing with my published part, but I cannot make a key parameter to change depending on the entered custom parameter. I want the user to make the next steps when inserting from the CC: 1- select the size of the rail; 2-select the type of the rail; 3- enter the desired length of the rail; 4- choose between the desired length and the 2 recommended lengths (I need these 3 lengths to be shown)

Is this possible?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Showing Two Instances Of Parts List And Adding Custom Parts

Mar 30, 2012

On the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List.  Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list.  On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.

On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3.  Two of those Three are optional parts.  What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.

I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing.  Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone.  I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description.  I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).

Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible.  Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Default (custom) Material For Custom Content Center Parts

Feb 21, 2013

When inserting a content center part for which we have to choose a material, we would like to have a custom material as a default (material with name: "No material selected"). So when selecting no material for this part (for example when the user forgets to select a specific material), the default material (in this case material "No material selected") will be active. In this way, we can see in one view across the BOM which parts have no material assigned yet.

How can this be achieved in the content center (editor)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Crashing When Migrating Styles From 2011?

May 27, 2013

I'm trying to migrate our styles library from Inventor 2011 to 2013 using the style library manager.  I have the current (2013) library loaded in the first slot, and my old 2011 library loaded in the second slot.  Under the 2011 library, the Migrate button is active.

I click Migrate, and after telling me it can take up to 2 minutes to migrate the library, it proceeds.  After about two minutes, I get a progress box generated by Inventor (not the style library manager) that indicates it is copying some 1300 files from one location, to another.  I can't tell if it is the same location or not, as the filepaths are truncated in the progress box.

As it finishes, usually with one file remaining, I get the "Autodesk Inventor 2013 Has stopped working" error.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly etc. etc.

I do not relish having to go back and manually define all my styles.

Context: Product Design Suite Ultimate 2013, Win 7 Pro, 12 GB ram.  I've tried both with and without my antivirus realtime scan on.

AutoCAD 2013 :: How To Add Custom Properties To Objects

Aug 13, 2013

Is there any (non programming) solution where I can add custom data/properties to objects in plain AutoCAD?

(I know I can in Civil 3D though, using Notes/Extended Properties etc etc)

We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose  ;-)

We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.

using plain AutoCAD straight out of the box?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom VBA Function In Parameter

Jan 31, 2013

I've got a custom VBA function that works perfectly when called from a parameter in my part.

However, when in the context of my assembly, there is no error, but the function no longer runs, and the parameter text is red.

Apparently, the function is no longer in context?

I've heard of external rules, but have never implemented one.

Is there a way to declare my function and keep it in context regardless?

Public Function BumpHeight(dblHeight As Double, dblMember As Double) As Double Dim X As Integer X = 2 If dblHeight > dblMember * 2 Then BumpHeight = dblHeight Else BumpHeight = dblMember * X End If BumpHeight = BumpHeight / 2.54 End Function
Here is the Parameter:

 VBA:BumpHeight(ValanceBackBumpoutHeight;ValanceMemberSize) * 1 in

Update: (problem better defined)

What seems to be happening is that once I insert the part into an assembly, it creates a new blank copy of the parts' modules in VBA and the functions no longer work.

If I go to the VBA editor,

There are now two copies of my part listed in the browser tree, but the new one is blank.

If I paste in my function to the new one, it will work until I return to the parent assembly.

Next time I come back to the part, it will have a new blank set of modules.

This appears to continue indefinitely...

see the attached screenshot.

At this point there are only 2 copies of the DocumentProject. The original still contains my functions, but the new one is blank.

I need these functions to work in order to build my model.
