AutoCAD Inventor :: Unwanted Detail In Drawings
Jan 17, 2013
In the idw of my assembly hidden detail is turned off although there is still sub assemblies shown through the main container. Also when there is a section these sub assemblies are show with dotted lines an overlap components they are behind.
My questions are
1. Why are they showing through components they are behind.
2. Why are the lines dashed
See attached image.

When holes are put in at the assembly level by using the 2d sketch command, projecting geometry and then using the hole command in the Model tab works great. Is there a way to transfer the holes put in at the assembly level to the detail drawings (ipt)?

On a view of a wall detail, I added a flashing with a Detail Line which shows only on that view specific detail. The flashing is at the bottom of a wood stud and brick wall in which the brick was added with a repeating detail. Now I want to move slightly the flashing a little lower from where I originally put it, but by doing so the brick also moves and I do not want the brick to move.
I assume something is locked or joined there. My question; How to detach the flashing from the brick so only the flashing line moves?

In creating our drawing template, I collected alot of unwanted styles and want to delete/clean this up. I only want to keep what's highlighted..By the way, I found style editor and template creation quite tedious & convoluted.

The issue I have with Inventor 2010 is when i dimension a rectangle to be 44 in wide and 79 in height it becomes a slated rectangle. This event occurs on the work version of Inventor 2010. I have an educational version of Inventor 2010 at home and when I tried this same dimension rectangle at home it didn't have this issue. Is there a setting I need to turn off to fix this.

The problem I'm having, or what's annoying, is reappearing (visible) Work Planes. I have a number of parts in my assembly that I make invisible and visible on a regular basis and I find that when I make a part visible, the Work Planes of that part also become visible. It's very annoying and time consuming having to turn off the Work Planes when there's no need for them to be visible.
Is there a way to either make all Work Planes invisible or to permenantly make Work Planes invisible unless you specifically make them visible.

what the best way to show 2 different subassemblies based on the same iAssembly... I would expect a "custom" option as there is from the content center. If I try and change the table for one, the other instance gets updated, and I would like it to stay the same. I understand that this would require a new "branch" in the BOM holding the different sized parts, but there must be a way to accommodate this?

I need to export our BOMs from inventor into a csv file that can be loaded into our ERP system. All of that code is working great and the help files were useful in getting this completed. However it only will work if the assembly model is in the master level of detail!! This is not good at all since the only reason we use levels of detail is becasue our main level assemblys are 1000+ comp and our computers cant function with these levels of models in the master level of detail!! Is there anyway around this?

I would like to highlight connector cutout details on a panel using the circular detail feature.
The views created are fine, however the detail indicator, the circle with arrows and identifier clutter the face of the object. If i could turn them off i would then use a leader to point to the detail instead, which in my case will be much neater.

Is it possible to use the 'Link Levels of Detail' command via the API ?
I can activate the command by using the CommandManager
oContDef = ThisApplication.CommandManager.ControlDefinitions.Item("AssemblyBonusTools_LinkLODsCmd")oContDef.Execute
But the command then requires a UI selection - I want to select the iLogic LOD.
I've tried using the CommandManager.PostPrivateEvent but to no avail.

Is it possible to set a view representation and level of detail (combine them) at the same time in an assembly. Or do they have to be set individually?
Attached images show the first assembly option with four sections together. The second image shows the second assembly option with the top and bottom sections only.

Is there a way to disable the level of detail? I personally find this feature most annoying.
I am now starting to understand it after being tripped up by it early in my Inventor carrier.
But even now in understanding it more, I see no point in it.
The problem I have is I can have more then one level of detail in my model to show a specific way in my
one drawing. Then this specific level of detail when changed for a different drawing will screw with the first drawing.
Why can't one just suppress certain items without having to worry about this. Heck, isn't this what Iparts and iassemblies are for?

Is there a property or method that can control the location of the name for a detail view? For example the picture below. Detail "B" represents the api default. Detail "C" representes where I want to put the text. All the properties, aside from "Name" apparently deal with the detail view itself.

I dont know if this is possible but what i am trying to do is create a custom detail ballon & outline similar to what is attached. this is how our client wants it to look & currently we create the detail & then sketch the outline & add a sketched symbol which has the identifier. We then turn off the detail layer which has the default outline.

I am creating a large assembly that will contain many level of details. When I complete a "section" of components, I create a LOD for just that section (all other components suppressed). However, all the components I add after that LOD has been created are added to that LOD. I would like all additional components to be automatically suppressed, unless I have that LOD active.

I have an assembly and using ilogic to control the wide of the machine. The wider machine has some different brackets which I am turning on and off by using "component . IsActive" in ilogic.
I had to make a new level of detail for it to work, and this is all fine except everytime I open this assembly it defaults back to master level of detail, so I always get this error.
How do I control level of detail with ilogic or how am i suppose to turn parts on and off.I have seen some impressive assemblies controlled with ilogic how do they do it.

How can I move a detail view to another sheet in a drawing in 2009? I have only been able to copy the detail and it's parent view to the 2nd sheet and then suppress the parent view on the 2nd sheet so that only the detail view is visible.
However, when I go back to the first sheet and try to suppress or delete the detail view, it also deletes / suppresses the detail circle from the parent view.

I know there's the setting in the Tools/Application Options/File dialogue that allows you to set a system wide setting of which LOD that opens each time you activate an assembly.
But what about a file specific setting where you are able to set a specific LOD that always opens for that specific assembly file? Or will that conflict with the system wide settings?
Granted, I know Inventor will open the last saved LOD (based on that system wide setting), but my client has users that, for a lack of better terms, are not paying attention or being aware of what LOD they are opening and thus editing the wrong LOD, etc.

While creating a drawing yesterday, I noticed that the RMB Options to modify a detail view has disappeared?
- Cutout Shape
- Detail Boundry
- Connecting line
I am not sure how long this has been like this, What I do know is that I had a corrupt model, (Broke when it migrated to 2013) I restored from backup and tested the model in ver 2012.
I can not say if bouncing between the two versions of inventor has perhaps changed something, or of this option has not been available for a while?

I am wondering if it is possible to do a mass change of all project files at once. What I wish to change is my content center location, template location and style manager file locations. I have all these setup already and tested with one project but I dont want to do it with the other ... LOTS! ... manually unless I must.
