AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawings Will Not Update With Part

Oct 3, 2011

I am having some issues concerning updating drawings. When a part (.IPT) is placed in a drawing, everything is fine (ie. the views represented in the drawing are up-to-date). Yet, when I make a change to the part (something as small as a dimensional change) it does not translate through to the drawing. This is also the case for iProperties.

I have been playing around for a while now, but have had no luck. The part is also an iPart, but this shouldn't matter.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawings Not Update With IPart Usage

Sep 10, 2013

I made a drawing, inserted a base view and selected an ipart member, in the Model State tab of the Drawing View dialog box.

Now i made a change in the model, one that is enabbled in the ipart member, one that i should see in the drawing, but i don't see the change. the drawing represents the part as i inserted it at first.

Now i found a workaround, i edited the view, chose the active member, which is the previosly selected member, now it updated, but the center lines became pink. now i changed back to the firstly selected member and it updated, but i am sure there is a better way

AutoCAD Inventor :: Update Attributed Blocks In Drawings

Nov 15, 2011

I have recently been forced more to use customer supplied drawings in inventor that contain attributed AutoCAD blocks, I have been looking for a way to automate filling out these and add some consistency since they sometime ask for the same thing to be updated in several places. I have been using the "dwgblk.GetPromptTextValues(sTags, sAttr)" to get the values of these attributes but I don't know how to update the value from a property back into the attribute.

I have even thought about doing this in iLogic so that it would be easy to change from customer to customer.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Text In Part Drawings

Nov 28, 2011

Can we have a better way to create “text” in the Inventor part drawings?

I almost create “text” in every part drawing in different view. I have to create a sketch first, than create a text and dimension the text so I can lock the text in position, otherwise when you move the view and the text will stay in different location.

I had been used “Solid works” for long times. When I need to create a text, just click that view and create a text and the text will stay with that view, whatever you move that view and the text move together.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part Line Colors In Drawings

May 1, 2013

It's possible to select a part in a view on a 2D drawing and change the color of all the lines belonging to that part.

This is really useful, but is there a way of assigning a line color to the .ipt file it's self, so that every time I place a view of that part the lines are automatically set to specified color?

This would also be useful within a single drawing when there are multiple views of the same assembly. e.g.

Part A would always be drawn in Red, Part B would always be green. This would really distinguishing between parts in complex assemblies. (Which I realise can be done manually but I think it could be done faster with less chance of making mistakes.) Currently, I color all the parts, but then if I make an additional view, the new view is all in black.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Generating Factory Part For Drawings

Feb 12, 2013

I have a C-channel that I bent and then created a i-part of so that I could place both a formed and flat view in the drawing. After creating the drawing it was determined that the channel needed to be longer. Not a problem, open the factory, edit the part, open table and verify, close table and activate both parts, save and close factory. It's all good, until I run a print  and the flat part (-02) of the factory still shows the old length. Next I open the factory, select table and both members and generate. The message " not able to save factory" appears.

AutoCAD Inventor :: (some) Part Names Won't Update Within Assembly

Jul 26, 2012

I am working on an assembly with subassemblies totaling over 400+ parts.  I have been renaming a bunch of the files, then opening the assembly and updating the part associasions.  Most parts changed their name to the respective file name, while others have not (within the assembly).  When I open the actual part, the proper part name shows up, but within the assmeblies the original name shows.  I went into iproperties and the occurences tab; the proper name is shown.  The proper part names show up within design assistant as well (via right clicking on assembly file).

How can I have the part names within the assemblies update to the proper names?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assembly Edits Don't Show Up In Part Drawings

Apr 5, 2013

What's the purpose of making modeling edits at the assembly level if those edits don't show up in a drawing of the parts? Sure, it makes the assembly look prettier and more true to the final product, but say I make a bunch of cuts, holes, etc. at the assembly level, but then I make a drawing for one of the parts that was affected... those edits don't show up on the part itself, so all those edits are of absolutely no use to me when I need to give the guys in the shop a detail drawing of how to make the part. Why I would make edits at the assembly level?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Programmatically Update Units Of Measure For A Part

Aug 6, 2012

I am trying to programatically update Units of Measure on a part or document through Document Settings, but the changes are not reflected. I cannot save the file, because the file is a result of import, so I want to leave it up to the user. During import, I am recognizing what type of units the import file has, and I need to impose them on the document, and immediately show. I cannot use templates. There is a similar issue when the Units of Measure are updated manually through the screen, they are not reflected.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Update Color Of A Derived Part

Jun 4, 2013

I'm running an iLogic based model where I have a technical housing with 2 cover parts on top.

The first cover part is the basic part.

I use iLogic to assign a RAL-color to several parts in the assembly, also to that cover. The color is assigned to several features of the cover part.

The second cover part is almost identical to the first one.

So my first feature in the second cover part is a derived part of the 1st cover. I derived all the bodies.

When I'm in my assembly and I pick a RAL-color in my created customization form, the RAL-color only changes in the 1st cover part (the original), but it doesn't change in the second cover part, the derived body.

But....

when I manually open the 2nd cover part, and I right click on the derived feature and click on 'Edit Derived Part' ; the new color shows up immediately!

So, my question is if there is a rule for iLogic to update the color automatically?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Incomplete Part Update When Sketch Pattern Count Changes?

Mar 18, 2012

The attached part, created in Inventor 2012, has a formula for the number of occurances in a sketch pattern based on its length. When this number changes due to a length change, some parts of the sketch do not reposition and Inventor does not indicate that an update is required. The part can be fixed by dragging the affected geometry or performing a rebuild all. The following image shows the result when the length changes from 300 to 500.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Matching Title Block In Part Drawings To Assembly Drawing?

Dec 5, 2013

I do a lot of work where I start with a full assembly drawing, then make more drawings for the individual parts. Is there a way to link the title block parameters in the part drawings to the title block in the full assembly drawing? The only way I found was to link the parts together and then grab the info for the drawings off of the parts, but if I'm implementing this in a template used by others I want them to still be able to just fill in the blank on the assembly drawing to make it work.

I was able to get iProperties to show parameter buttons, but I haven't seen any way to link to other files or anything like that.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Modify Part Without Updating Linked Parts / Assemblies / Drawings

Nov 12, 2012

I have several parts which I wish to modify, but, those modifications are only being done to get some prototypes made. I do not want the changed (non-approved part) to be used in current issue drawings, assemblies etc. until I have proven the modifications and am happy with them.

I can do this by doing a save as on the part and could just replace the previous design, but then I lose the history of changes/revisions shown in Vault which is critical to me and part of using vault in the first place.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Part When Changing Size Doesn't Update Correct Length

Mar 15, 2013

A coworker brought this to my attention and I was also immediately able to reproduce this. We use content center C channels and other common beams a lot. After inserting one into an assembly if you right click and select change size and edit the length it typically doesn't update to the correct length.

Example:

Insert a 10" Ansi MC/C channel any size

right click and select change size

add +.0625 to the existing length and hit apply

measure it at 10.06252 in

repeat change size and type in 10.0625

measure it at 10.0625

repeat change size and type in 10 + .0625

and measure at 10.06252 in

It seems to mess up more when you do math but it also screws up entering a simple number

10.000325 usually ends up as 10.000315 in for me.

Editing the part directly from it's parameter dialog doesn't yield anything like this.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: One Master Description Key That Will Update In All Drawings

Dec 23, 2013

I need one desc key that will update in all drawings. I am just getting started and I have a drawing template where for the most part I keep the desc key updated. I am just starting a new project and will make revisions and additions as I go to the desc key. If I make the change in my working drawing it doesn't update 'universally' just in that one drawing. Is there a way to have one 'master' that updates as you go? I have tried to drag and drop to keep one or the other up to date but that doesn't work. Also, there will eventually be 2 additional users so how will that work if we all can't use the same master description key?

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Update Several Similar Drawings Through BAT File

Feb 7, 2013

i am working on writing a lisp to update several similar drawings through a .bat file.  One of the things i would like to do is to automatically increase the revision number by one.  I have figured out everything except how to select the text.  Looking at the database, the coordinates for the revision number are (10 15.2908 0.0295 0.0).  However, (setq a (ssget "x" '((0 . "TEXT,MTEXT")(10 15.2908 0.0295 0.0)))) returns nil.

If each drawing's revision number is not in the exact same location, is it possible to select by a range of coordinates?  Using (getpoint), the range is from (15.5 0.0 0.0) to (15.1805 0.1409 0.0).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Material Favorites Does Not Update When Update Materials

Dec 9, 2013

I made a change to my materials library.  I changed the color (from dark grey to light grey) of one material.  I then saved this back to my library.

Now, when I start a new part, I get a warning that the material does not match the library.  So, rather than using the material in the part, I opened the template and updated the material to match the library. (Manage >Update Styles).

This is where the problems come into play. In the update styles dialog, if I compare materials against my custom materials and then compare it to my Favorites, it just a continuious circle.  It is like the favorites are stored inside the part and do not get updated to match the custom materials library. (I thought the whole idea behind using a library was to get the information out of the parts).

Here is a short video showing what it does. [URL] .....

The only way I can get the favorites to match is to delete the favorite material, update the style and the add the favorite back in.  That is a bunch of work.  The problem I got with this is that there are thousands of parts that have been created that has this favorite in it.  The only way to update these is to open each part (if I knew which one), delete the favorite, update the materials and then add the favorite back in.

I see the same thing in 2013 and 2014.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Style Update (or Style Update Check) Upon Open Of A Drawing?

Nov 21, 2013

I am wondering if it is possible to do a style update (or style update check) upon open of a drawing?

The example would be that I have stuff made from way back that the colors/dimension sytles ect dont match the current standard and upon opening a file where they are not current, it would either prompt to update immediatly OR update automatically with no prompting (preferred method).

I am doing a massive amount of updates from old files recently and to save myself 1 - 3 clicks per drawing would be wonderful.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unable To Derive A Part Containing Only A Block Into A Sheet Metal Part

Nov 15, 2011

I set up our company log which gets embossed on most parts as a sketch block in an .ipt.  The .ipt contains nothing but the sketch block.  To use it, the designer only needs to derive the Logo.ipt file into their part and then use the scale setting to set the derived block to the desired size for that part.  The result is a scalable set of line geometry that can easily be used for extrusion or emboss that is standard for all users.  It works beautifully, that is until you try to use it in a sheet metal part in 2012.

For some reason, when this same part, which works perfectly in normal parts, is derived into a sheet metal part an error pops up stating that, "Selected part does not have any geometry that can be derived."  Say what?

I was able to find a workaround by directly copying the block into the sheet metal part, but you no longer have the ability to go back and scale it if needed.  Even more strange, when the block was copied over, it could not be deleted from the new part.

Is this just a bug with 2012?  Why does it work in a normal part but not sheet metal?
