AutoCAD Inventor :: Incomplete Part Update When Sketch Pattern Count Changes?

Mar 18, 2012

The attached part, created in Inventor 2012, has a formula for the number of occurances in a sketch pattern based on its length. When this number changes due to a length change, some parts of the sketch do not reposition and Inventor does not indicate that an update is required. The part can be fixed by dragging the affected geometry or performing a rebuild all. The following image shows the result when the length changes from 300 to 500.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Embossed Text (Part Sketch) To Update From Custom Properties

Dec 20, 2011

I’m trying to get the embossed text on a nameplate (done in sketch on a part) to change with updating a custom property in iProperties. Right now I’m using iLogic so I can change the text in User Parameters and that updates the embossed text. So where I’m having an issue is the Export Parameters tab is grayed out so I can’t get it work with my custom properties.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Renumber Count Of Pattern Elements?

Jan 18, 2013

Since I used Autodesk Inventor 2013 last year, I had an question about numbering en renumbering the count of elements in patterns.

I had an assembly with iLogic for placing and replacing elements, suppressing parts and edit dimensions of parts in 1 assembly. Sometimes, 1 suppressed pattern must be un-suppressed. Before doing this, I would like to set the pattern count and distances between pattern elements in the pattern. How can I do it by using iLogic?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Control Part Count

Oct 5, 2011

I am modeling a P&ID piping system.  The system has 10 valves of the same exact type.  When I generate my parts list I see a valve count of 10 beside the valve callout.  Because each valve has a unique tag that relates to its position in the P&ID I need to be able to show each valve  with the count of 1 in the parts list.  I will add a custom field thta has the valve tag in it.  I don't know how to get the parts list to not total the number of each type of valve.  In other words I need to show each valve in its own separate field.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Part Sketch Into Drawing Sketch

Sep 20, 2012

How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?

I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations.  Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.

I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist.  I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.

I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way.  I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option.  I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Pattern Won't Update Unless Edit The Pattern?

Nov 20, 2013

I have an assembly which I am using as a icopy component. In the assembly I have the adaptive sketch which os used for the icopy function and a part which is adaptive to the sketch. I then have the part pattern itself in the assembly. The problem is the pattern will not update when changes are made unless I edit the pattern. The pattern references parameters from the sketch so that when the sketch changes the pattern should change. It works but the pattern will not update unless i open the pattern to edit it. Is there a vb function which will force the pattern to update when a change is made? I tried the update document vb functions but no change. I will try to get a sample together that is a smaller file size so you can see what I am talking about.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sketch Update Using WHILE Command

May 29, 2012

I am having a problem with a sketch not updating the parameters when using a "while / end while" command.

Basically if you have a right angled triangle (as attached) with one side and the angle doing the driving then I wish to update the sketch until the last side which is a reference dimension reaches a preset dimension.

I cannot get the updated sketch to read back into the while command to stop when the limit is reached. Instead it goes on an infinite loop until the sketch breaks.

I have used every update under the sun and can get nothing to work.

Trigonometry not an option as this is a basic example of what I wish to achive.

I have seen an example of this working but only for reading the iproperties so dimensions can change until a volume is reached.

THIS IS THE TROUBLE LINE  If sketch = oCP.Parent Then

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2011 Moving Geometry From Flat Pattern Sketch Space To Flat Pattern Space

Jan 2, 2012

I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.

Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.

When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly.  What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Modify Pattern Sketch Extremely Slow?

May 31, 2012

I have an extruded sketch pattern that I have tried to make modification to via the 'edit pattern' function. When making ajustments to the pattern and clicking ok Inventor is taking nigh on 2 hours to complete the function. Then I have to finish sketch which takes another hour or so. Obviously it should not be taking this amount of time. The part in question is a series of extruded holes, nothing excessivly complex, why this is taking so much time to complete ? AutoCAD Inventor :: Break Sketch Pattern Without Deleting Elements?

Oct 13, 2011

Is there anyway to break a sketched pattern without deleting all the elements?  CATIA has this feature where you can pattern something, then break the relationship of this pattern so you can edit the components as individuals.  It seems the only option in Inventor is to delete the pattern or suppress individual components.   I just want to pattern a line equally spaced 20 times then trim those lines to a bisecting one.  Its annoying to have to draw and constrain all the lines to create a pattern

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rectangular Pattern With 2 Curve Lengths - 1 Sketch

Sep 19, 2013

I would like to use a sketch as the basis for a rectangular pattern which is set up to use the curve length for both directions of the rectangular pattern so that when I update my rectangle in a sketch, the pattern automatically adjusts to the new sketch. I have sketched a rectangle, and used one leg of the rectangle to establish the direction and length of one dimension of the array.

However, when I try and choose the Direction 2, my only options are the entire rectangle or faces- I can no longer select other and choose a single side of the rectangle.

I was able to accomplish what I wanted by using two sketches, with the second sketch simply projecting one leg from the first sketch.  Using one sketch just seems inherently safer than trusting projected geometry. Is there a way to accomplish this with one sketch instead?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 / Model Will Not Update After Sketch Edit

Jul 15, 2013

Tried to do something that all other 3D softwares seem to have no problem with, even inventor at least when we were using the old versions.

Editting sketch - close sketch.     No model update.

This is an existing 3D model created with inv2011.  inv2013 does not like much of what we created in the old releases of inv.

Sketch gives me 1 dimension.  Part and drawing give the old dimension value.

This is yet another major sign of unstable software. Over 24 software issues discovered from changing  inv2011 to inv2013.

I have tried using work planes and project geometry but when I go to move the part the geometry won't always follow the part.  I am using a spline for the 3D sketch so it should be able to adapt when the parts are moved but the problem is constraining it to something that follows the part.
