AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 - Edit Appearance Of Whole Part?

May 2, 2012

In 2012 (and earlier) you rotated the texture in Style Editor. This was limited vs the new method.

I have parts with lots of faces and need to rotate all the faces at the same time, like 2012.

Also, I need the changes to be updated in all iparts, whereas at the moment the Adjust only seems to affect each one.  Again, much less limited, but I need the option to update all at once too.

I cleared the appearance overrides, but it is still greyed out.  Here is a short video of what I have tried.

The reason I am going thru this excersice it to remove the knurl.bmp that shows up in by vault browser... watch the end of the video.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Updating Appearance Of Derived Part?

Jun 11, 2012

I have a part (several actually) that I made using the mirror command. I made these in 2012. When I converted to 2013 and set up my new appearance freindly materials, I changed the appearance for my 201 S/S matl to "Stainless Brushed".  The first image is of the derived part which is stuck on a "Steel" appearance, the second image is of the base model which is correctly displaying the "Stainless Brushed" appearance.  I tried playing around with the appearance overrides and I can't seem to get it to update.  My assembly looks like **** with the different appearances.

For chuckles sake I'll also mention that every time "appearance" appears in the above paragraph I typed color first and corrected it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Color / Appearance Of Faces On Part File?

Dec 19, 2012

I quite often import hardware models downloaded form various mfg or supplier websites. McMaster Carr for example provides a great deal of hardware models.  While they offer native formats for SW they do not do this for IV (not many places do)

Since the [imported] models often open up with default properties, I change the material to something that closely represents the actual hardware or item.  In some cases, there are certain portions of the item that are in reality colored or textured differently and I sometimes want to duplicate that for aesthetics and a more accurate view for people that use my assembly files.

In SW, it was always real easy to select just a face (regardless of whether the surface was part of an entire part, a feature, an imported solid body, etc.  I could always change the properties of just a face or slection of faces.  Since it was a standard pc of hardware, I had no concern about updates.

I have a part file that contains two imported solid bodies.  If I select just a single face and try to change the color of it, it changes the entire part.  Not what I want.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Part Type From Normal To Purchased Part Like Bearings / Bolts?

Apr 11, 2013

Some times we use standard parts which we could not find in content center. We creat part ourselves. But it looks like standard part in BOM or part explorer window...

I want to change type of part to PURCHASED type and icon like other purchased parts like bearings or bolts...

Is this possible?...

It can be also assembly parts like bearings. Bearings have many parts but it looks only one part in part explorer. This is very good. I want same thing too...

AutoCAD Inventor :: Updating Imported Part

Dec 17, 2013

A customer sent me a .step file.  In order to produce the part that I need, I wanted to add some machining to his original part. Os I derived in his part and then added the features that I needed. Just a few tapped holes in one side.

Now, my customer made a few changes to his original part (added some detail) and he has sent me his new .stp file. I did not think it would be any problems if I just overwrote the original stp file with the new one.  But, if I do that, when I open my part, Inventor complains that the updated part is part is not usable.

I tried saving the imported file as a .ipt and then bringing that into an assembly and doing the machining there. But, now when I replace the imported file with the updated version, my features fail.

Is there a workflow that will allow me to update the part that is derived into another part?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Part Shows I In Browser?

Mar 22, 2012

When I bring in a .sat file, I see these little "i" in the browser.  The red Cross is dimmed.  If I hover over the icon, it doesnt tell me anything.  I can right click on Base2 and choose edit solid, and the "i" goes away, but something is still not right.  I know something is wrong, because the mass is not correct for this part.

Notice the green check by "Base 3"? After I edit "Base 2", I do not have a check by it.

How do I get this to report the mass correcly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Moving Imported Part To The Origin

Jun 21, 2013

We have imported an AutoCAD 3D model into Inventor and the process generates many individual Inventor parts which are placed in a new Inventor assembly. The parts are all unconstrained in the assembly but spacially positioned relative to each other as they were in the AutoCAD file.

We want to create a new, empty, assembly and place the individual parts one by one into the new assembly constraining them appropriately as we go. This way we can develop a more logical set of sub-assemblies and have the parts more intelligently connected.

So to the point of my question, at last!. Each individual part, generated from the import, contains just a single body. There is no sketch or any features. The part's origin is at the point of the original AutoCAD model's origin. All of the imported parts will have the same origin point. We want to move the part's single body in space to align with the part's origin point and planes. This way when we re-build the assembly we can use each part's origin planes when constraining the part.

There doesn't appear to be any way of constraining or 'snapping' a part's body in space to the origin planes.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Making Support For Imported Part?

Feb 14, 2013

I am looking at building a support for a customers part.  Trouble is the part is curves and surfaces.  Part doesnt have too many "flat" sides to it.  I am struggling with how to get what I need.  In this video, I am showing how the part will move onto the support (support is clear blue).

I created an assembly, then derived the iam into a part... subtracting out where the part will sit in the support. The problem I am having is removing the material so the part can move into the support from above.

Here is a picture of the support with the part subtracted out.  I would post this, but the filesize is pretty large (18mb).

I cant seem to find a way to trim this off.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Components Default Save Location

Oct 8, 2012

Is there a way to change the default save location for imported components?  I can't stand the default "Save in Workspace" option which creates the dreaded & useless (IMHO) "Imported Components" folder.

I know how to change it during an import by clicking the "Options..." button.  But if I or another one of our users forgets to do that, then things get saved to the "Imported Components" folder.  This becomes particularly annoying with library files.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Controlling Name In Assembly Browser Of Imported Part?

May 23, 2012

I have a browser display issue that occurrs sometimes when imported parts are inserted into an assembly model.  Before dropping some imported parts into my assembly model I changed the filename to something corresponding to our part numbering system.  When the part is dropped into the model, the name of the instance displayed in the assembly browser is the same as that originally used by the originator of the model.

I know I can change the name in the browser by editing the name field in the occurrance tab; but I'd need to do this for each instance.  What iproperty field (or other property field) should I edit at the part level so that the revised part name is used in the assembly browser whenever that part is inserted into an assembly?

Jul 25, 2012

I have a STEP file which is of a part similar to the rudder of a boat or an oar blade but twisted at the end, and I have to draw the split line to match the profile of the blade. I imagine I have to use a 3D sketch because of the twist and we are guessing that the split line will run down the apex of the blade, but I don't know how to get the 3D sketch to "stick" to the apex (there is no real apex as it's curved).

Revit :: Change Appearance Of Imported Mass

Aug 22, 2011

Is there any way to change the appearance of a mass imported into Revit?  I simply want to change the dark grey that shows in the rendered view and/or the white that shows up in the shaded view so I can control how background buildings (imported through google earth/sketch up) look in my drawings.

I do not want to rebuild the masses with walls, ceilings, etc, because they are just background site elements.  I have tried to do this through object styles.  I have tried to do this through "Override by Element" and "Override by Category".  I am importing the files as in-place masses and there is no way to edit materials because "Materials" doesn't even show up as one of the element properties.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Reference Part To Normal In BOM

Oct 1, 2005

I'm having trouble changing a reference part back to normal. It's in a sub nested 2 levels. I earlier had it as a phantom but changed it easily to reference. Now I need it to be normal.

I've tried going into each level to change it. I cannot access it unless I change the BOM to read "Model Structure" since reference parts don't show up under BOM structure. When I click on Reference (it has a little X in it) it will seem like it's going to change but turns back to ref every time.

I went into the lowest sub & was able to change the part to Default through Properties but it just goes to reference again in the main assembly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Part Properties In Assembly?

Mar 27, 2012

I have often right clicked a part in the browser of an assembly and edited its properties. This may include stock number, material and adaptability.

Drawings of these assemblies seem to update accordingly. At least initially.

I have noticed often several sessions later, the same properties have defaulted to their original value.

And I came across the statement in the corrections attachment.

What does the highlighted sentence mean, exactly? And which properties respond to a change at the part level when edited in an assembly?
