AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Components Default Save Location
Oct 8, 2012
Is there a way to change the default save location for imported components? I can't stand the default "Save in Workspace" option which creates the dreaded & useless (IMHO) "Imported Components" folder.
I know how to change it during an import by clicking the "Options..." button. But if I or another one of our users forgets to do that, then things get saved to the "Imported Components" folder. This becomes particularly annoying with library files.
I created a template and changed some style properties. I can not save to master location and when I open the template is tells me it is going to override my custom style.
How do I save out my custom style to the defalut location?
is there a way to set the default save location in gimp, when i create a new image and save it always starts in ~/Documents directory on the save dialog.
i tried to see if there was a setting i could override in gimprc but i was unable to find this, maybe i am looking in the wrong place.
I adjust lots and lots of pix for our ebay auctions. Many items have at least 5 pix so they have the same file name but with a 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. at the end of the file name to distinguish them from each other. Example: eapgcompote1.jpg , eapgcompote2.jpg etc..
The problem that I have with Gimp is every time I save/ export a pic Gimp does not save the last export location and last modified date nor does Gimp offer the ability to select from previously saved items like in PhotoShop. I have to go thru about 5 steps in order to save each pic.
Whenever I mport a part it has the welding texture applied to it. Where can I change it to so I don't have go around and select the faces to clear them. Changing the material has no effect on removing the texture.
I'm having problem changing the default location for templates in Application Options of Inventor 2013. If I set the location to a folder in my server, the template files aren't showing up. It's like there's nothing there. I've never found this problem before. The templates are shared on the network, so it's the same for everybody. Now it's necessary to everyone copy them locally, which is not the best practice in my opinion.
How to change the Default Templates Location from the installation directory to the Network Location so that my Mechanical Design Team can use our Assigned Templates.
So I have 25 years 3d CAD experience. Catia, Alias, Ford PDGS.I have spent 20 hours on Inventor 2013. Great program. Very intuitive. Have been banging out models easily.
My issue however is a Client has given me sone .stp's and Iges files to work with. They open fine as a .iam The issue is saving. I have the project folder setup, go to save.
I Get the "do you want to save changes to "XXXXXXXX.iam" and all its dependants.I select "yes to all".I get the "Yes" under the "Save" Column for all listed .ipt's...I hit OK.......Autodesk attempts to save.
...Then I get the dialogue box up with ! icons "The system cannot find the path specified" - The database in C:Users.........xxxx.ipt could not be saved
We have about 25 users on Inventor working via a common network on multiple projects, we do not have vault.
In using the content center, I see one has to specify the location of instanced content center parts under options>file>>Default Content Center files. Is there no other way to get the instanced content center parts to save under the specific project file location without changing it manually each time via options>file>>etc. Is there a setting under projects?
I´m trying to create an external iLogic rule that let´s the user specify a path and saves an assembly and all it´s components into one directory. Alternatively it could be the main workspace path which doesn´t have to be specified by the user so it can be handled internally.
The background is a design template that resides on a network storage which can be configured through an iLogic Form and when the user is done configuring the assembly to it´s liking it should be saved to it´s workspace.
I was looking through the snippets but couldn´t find anything related to "save all". I have the feeling that I have to cycle through all component occurences and save them one by one.
Getting a Save As dialog box seems to be possible as I could see on Curtis Waguespack´s blog but the commands he is using are nowhere documented. For example for calling the dialog box he is using
In my quest to remove any unnecessary clicks I want to be able to set the default location when you press Save, Save As, Demote or 'Save and replace component'.
Default it will show up a file save as dialogue starting from my workspace. Or my last saved location. I believe this is stored in the registry and hope to Intelligent adjust these registry value's using VBA.
When diving into the registry I believe I found the right keys here:
I would like to have our newly created Content Center parts end up in a vault folder location unique to them. This will manage our conversion from the standard parts to our custom parts. Unfortunately, Inventor automatically saves these to the en-US folder. How can I set parts to automatically save to the Content Center/Roberts Standard Parts location as shown (attached) when they are inserted in an assembly.
I have changed my template using the styles library. For some reason Inventor 2013 will not let me save my new settings as a default in my newly created template. Instead it gives me an error message that reads:
" The following style definitions in template ....... differ from the definitions in the style library; the style library will be used.
Part listart list (ANSI), Revision Table: Revision Table (ANSI)
If the style definitions in the style library are intended for the new document, update the template with the new style definitions. If the style definition in the template are intended for the new document, remove these styles from your style library using the Style Library Manager."
My company outputs IGES files and we always use the settings "Surfaces" and "144-Trimmed", however, the default for Sufrace Type is "143-Bounded" so we have to open up the options dialog box and change to "144-Trimmed" every time. How can I set Inventor's Default to "144-Trimmed" so I never have to mess with it again?
I recently had to format the ext drive that my photos were on. after doing that i put all those photos back. i opened Finder, clicked ext drive titled Photos and placed the parent folder, My Pictures there.
When I now look at the folders panel the parent folder is Photos and then My Pictures. in older catalogs the parent folder was always My Pictures. there are no ?s anywhere. wondering whether i put the photos back in the right way or right place.
Even though i select a specific folder when i now import photos they go to a completely different and new folder and seemingly to a new drive titled Photos. that is also the name of the drive that all the photos are on. when i click "show in finder" all images show the original drive titled Photos. so when you look at the folder panel it looks like there are actually two drives titled Photos and the imported photos are now going to the second Photos drive. in reality there is only one drive titled Photos.
i can't get imported photos to go to the correct drive.
I use LR 5 and I cannot seeme to get my location data imported when I import my photos. The data is there because it show up in PS Bridge but it is not in the metadata record in Lightroom and the map module cannot find it. I looked through all of the setting and I found nothing that would preclude location from being loaded.
We are having an issue with the xloadpath variable. We currently have a bunch of .ac$ files in the project folders on the network. We are trying to set the temp xref file location to the same folder as the temp drawing files (located on each user's hard drive).
After specifying a location for these temp files, the location is blank once the drawing is closed and opened again (which means they are in the folders on the network).
Why is this folder location resetting to default (no location given) when the drawing is closed and opened up again? Shouldn't this be the same as selecting the folder for the temp drawing files?
direction of where the DEFAULT SCALE LIST is stored in the C: drive?
I have set it up in the option tab and all is working, but will soon be installing several new PC's with AC and want to drop the stored file straight into the new PC's rather than having to type them out one by one on each PC.
AND/OR a open tab recovery cache or way to extract the images that get lost during a crash of PDN.
Number two on my list behind your fantastic new layer functionality that I had been dreaming about for three years. I NEVER close PDN. The ONLY time it closes is once every week or two when the 20, 30, 50 tabs that I have open, finally overwhelm my system. I bounce back and forth so much that there is no way to continuously save them as I make changes cause it would jack up my workflow by taking up too much time.
No way around it, this is just how I work. It would be lovely if PDN was able to, similar to After Effects, popup an error box saying it was about to crash and did 'you" want to save the session. Especially, now, with 4, as while it is a super duper version upgrade, the crashes were daily, with me, and I couldn't keep losing that much data. Sophie's choice, for me. The old layer window or daily crashes.
how to change the publish settings so that it prompts asking for a location to save when I publish to PDF? Right now it's just saving to the default output location and I need it to ask every time where I want to save the file.
Perhaps I have changed a setting inadvertently, although lately the following has been occurring when using the built in AutoCad DWG to PDF plot:
- if I plot a single sheet, I can choose the save location and it is all good
- if I go file publish and print multiple layouts at once (into the pdf), I am not given the option of where it can be saved, instead it is saved in the location the last pdf was (annoying when that is different job folders etc)
What do I need to change to fix it so I can always choose the save location?
I would like to change the default drive path location of the items that are placed into the Library panel on the edit window. I have a second hard drive and would like the items from the Library panel edit window to default to a drive path location on the second drive. I know I can export a library but I want the main Library panel work screen to default directly to a drive path location on the second hard drive.
Today I accidentally moved the toolbar. I watched the movie about customizing Xara, but I can't follow it. How to set it back to its default location (top of left edge).
