I am tryiing to "purge" a local appearance in a part. From the tools>Appearance, I want to delete the Knurled (Coarse), but the delete is greyed out.
I cleared the appearance overrides, but it is still greyed out. Here is a short video of what I have tried.
The reason I am going thru this excersice it to remove the knurl.bmp that shows up in by vault browser... watch the end of the video.
We are working with Inventor Premium 2013 with Vault Pro 2013. Recently, several users had the "delete local copy" check box greyed out when checking into Vault.

Have a problem of users using files in their local workspace instead of getting the latest files from Vault?
This is an Inventor question because my next step will be to develop an Inventor addin which deletes files from a user's local workspace when they check the files in.

In 2012 (and earlier) you rotated the texture in Style Editor. This was limited vs the new method.
I have parts with lots of faces and need to rotate all the faces at the same time, like 2012.
Also, I need the changes to be updated in all iparts, whereas at the moment the Adjust only seems to affect each one. Again, much less limited, but I need the option to update all at once too.
I have a part (several actually) that I made using the mirror command. I made these in 2012. When I converted to 2013 and set up my new appearance freindly materials, I changed the appearance for my 201 S/S matl to "Stainless Brushed". The first image is of the derived part which is stuck on a "Steel" appearance, the second image is of the base model which is correctly displaying the "Stainless Brushed" appearance. I tried playing around with the appearance overrides and I can't seem to get it to update. My assembly looks like **** with the different appearances.
For chuckles sake I'll also mention that every time "appearance" appears in the above paragraph I typed color first and corrected it.
how to place part or assembly from the Vault or local Hard drive in to the existing assembly?
Basically I do have a list of parts (wall panels different sizes etc...) I was going to create an iLogic form with drop downs, so engineer can choose wall panel assemblies he needs and qty`s. iLogic will pull these assemblies from the vault/HDD in to the existing assembly. Currently we have to go to so many different folders to pick them up.
Whenever I mport a part it has the welding texture applied to it. Where can I change it to so I don't have go around and select the faces to clear them. Changing the material has no effect on removing the texture.

I quite often import hardware models downloaded form various mfg or supplier websites. McMaster Carr for example provides a great deal of hardware models. While they offer native formats for SW they do not do this for IV (not many places do)
Since the [imported] models often open up with default properties, I change the material to something that closely represents the actual hardware or item. In some cases, there are certain portions of the item that are in reality colored or textured differently and I sometimes want to duplicate that for aesthetics and a more accurate view for people that use my assembly files.
In SW, it was always real easy to select just a face (regardless of whether the surface was part of an entire part, a feature, an imported solid body, etc. I could always change the properties of just a face or slection of faces. Since it was a standard pc of hardware, I had no concern about updates.
I have a part file that contains two imported solid bodies. If I select just a single face and try to change the color of it, it changes the entire part. Not what I want.

Lets say i applied first Brass to a part and i changed to other. I wil check the properties.
Finally i want to remove the material to same part.
Can you delete part of a fillet feature? While still keeping part of it & adding to it.
I have a fillet feature with 2 fillets to a part. One is in the wrong place.The Feature Fillett1 if you edit it, you will see what I mean.
Keep the middle one. Both fillets are 0.25" / Replace the bottom fillet to the top corner.
I would like to keep the Feature in the order it is in, if possible.
I am using Inventor 2012.
How do I delete work plane 1 from the attached part, 'test derived'?
workflow.
create a part, pattern a plane, save as 'test deriver'
create new part, derive work plane 1 from 'test deriver' sketch onto work plane 1, save as test derived
go back to 'test deriver, delete the pattern and create a new pattern, work plane 2, (i couldnt just edit it because the real life case was a series of patterns at different distances)
open part 'test derived', edit the derived part to include work plane 2, (work plane 1 doesnt exist in 'test deriver' anymore) redefine the sketch onto work plane 2
try to get rid of work plane 1 from the part?
I made a fillet earlier and then continued to work on the part. Now when I try to delete the fillet (to replace it with chamfer) Inventor gives me a box: "delete features" and the middle box can be selected which says "dependent sketches and features". If I check the box and hit ok, some of the unreleated holes and chamfers gets deleted and the fillet I wanted to delete doesn't get deleted. If I uncheck the box, different chamfers and threads dissappear, fillet I wanted to delete stays in place again and yellow box appears on the corner of the part. So what should I do to just delete the fillet and keep everything else?

Whenever I attempt to make local adjustments - using either the standard presets or custom settings - all the adjustments made are applied to the entire image, not just locally. Density and flow are set to my typical values and Show Selected Mask Overlay shows the extent of the applied effect, but whatever adjustment I make is applied generally, over the entire photo, rather than to the selected adjustment area.

Each of the appearances in the Inventor library and Autodesk libraries are milky and not very transparent at all. I'd like to find or create a material that is almost 100% clear, but reflects the environment.
The transparency slider scales from 0-100% but the results are more like 0-75%.Inventor Studio looks just as bad.I've got to believe that it's not impossible to do without Showcase or 3DS Max.
I need to do a ray-traced rendering of a smooth black anodized surface.
However when using the "Anodized Black" appearance, I get a speckled surface when using ray trace, and the part looks like galvanized steel.
In Inventor LT, it would be very useful if some of my parts were translucent in appearance. I have changed the "feature appearance" of the extrusion to Polycarbonate Clear" but it's still at the default grey.

What is this, and how can I rectify the problem?
I've been attempting to create a sphere with an Earth texture, for which I've made a custom appearance with a flattened picture of earth. Instead of wrapping to the sphere, however, the image is mirrored on both sides of the sphere and extremely distorted. I knew wrapping 2D geometry to a sphere was not strictly possible, but is there no way to pull it off with an image?
If not, would something like this be possible in 3DS max?
How can i have extrusion 3 with the Glass appearance or clear so as to look like Glass ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am clearing an override of a part in a subassembly. I tried to use the clear appearance button but I get message saying Active Design View has no appearance overrides which is not true. You can see in my attachment there clearly is an override from Chrome-Polished in the IPT to Satin- Brushed in the IAM.
There is no "Clear Override" in the Appearance pull down. I think I used to be able to click on color As Part in previous Inventor version but now it's different. The black areas are embossed features representing silkscreened graphics I need to preserve.
I tried to post the files in Inventor/Customer Files NG but the "new message" button was grayed out & not working.
I have an xml file with RAL colors I used befor the new appearance was added in Inventor. Now I want to use ral colors in Inventor 2013 but that I can not manage. how I can add ral colors and also properly be given in my parts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got upgraded to version 2013 by IT. Seeing that AD still can't maintain consistency from vers to vers. This version replaced 'Color Styles" with 'Appearances'. But, not just appearances, you have Document Appearances, the Autodesk Material Libray, the Autodesk Appearance Library, and the Inventor Material Library.
Why would the Material libraries show up when clicking the Appearances button when there is another button right beside it to get to Materials.
I mean, who is really going to use several dozen different types of flooring. And why is some metal in the metal category and some in default Category. And then some is in the metal Type and some in the generic Type. Is there really a need for two fields for organizing 'appearances' ? If this were a graphical design program I couls see some of this but it is a cad program. Seems like a case of trying to tailor one product to too many markets.
To the question. How do I unlock the Autodesk Appearance Library so I can get rid of all the junk I don't need and add some really obvious ones that are not there.
I have a problem when I want to use a cutout.
My purpose is to get a perforated plate but Inventor doesn't show this.
Only the black color is shown and not the holes.
