AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Duplicate A Part Inside Of Body

Sep 12, 2013

I am trying to draw a series of flow channel (in a row) in a rectangular parallelepiped.

So I sketched a rectangle -> extruded (cut) -> sketched another rectangle -> extruded -> sketched another rectangle inside of one of channel -> extruded, and finally made a flow channel like in attached file.

What I hope to know are :

(1) Is there a way to copy that flow channel? Or should I have to do same repeatedly for tens of flow channel?
(2) Is there a way to make a flow channel easily?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rotate Body In Part Document?

Aug 5, 2013

I am trying to rotate a body in a part document using a .net add-in through the API. I saw this mod the machine post [URL] which appears to be exactly what I am looking for. As I try to incorporate this into my add-in it doesn't recognize the MoveDefinition or PartDefinition.Features.MoveFeatures, as if these were not included in the SDK. The VBA code that is listed will run, but I cannot convert it to C#.net code. Is there something I am missing, perhaps an extra reference? I am using Inventor 2013 with the updated 2013 SDK downloaded from here  [URL]

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 - Edit Appearance Of Whole Part?

May 2, 2012

In 2012 (and earlier) you rotated the texture in Style Editor. This was limited vs the new method.

I have parts with lots of faces and need to rotate all the faces at the same time, like 2012.

Also, I need the changes to be updated in all iparts, whereas at the moment the Adjust only seems to affect each one.  Again, much less limited, but I need the option to update all at once too.

I am tryiing to "purge" a local appearance in a part.  From the tools>Appearance, I want to delete the Knurled (Coarse), but the delete is greyed out.

I cleared the appearance overrides, but it is still greyed out.  Here is a short video of what I have tried.

The reason I am going thru this excersice it to remove the knurl.bmp that shows up in by vault browser... watch the end of the video.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Updating Appearance Of Derived Part?

Jun 11, 2012

I have a part (several actually) that I made using the mirror command. I made these in 2012. When I converted to 2013 and set up my new appearance freindly materials, I changed the appearance for my 201 S/S matl to "Stainless Brushed".  The first image is of the derived part which is stuck on a "Steel" appearance, the second image is of the base model which is correctly displaying the "Stainless Brushed" appearance.  I tried playing around with the appearance overrides and I can't seem to get it to update.  My assembly looks like **** with the different appearances.

For chuckles sake I'll also mention that every time "appearance" appears in the above paragraph I typed color first and corrected it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multi Body Part Transparency Malfunction

Feb 16, 2012

I am creating a multibody part. I have revolded a surface from a sketch through other bodies and used those bodies to trim the surface. I then thicken the surface to create a solid.

The solid is transparent and no amount of property adjusting or anything else will make it opaque like the rest of the solids.

in the picture the open scalloped portion contains two bodies.

Why is it when i search down to the surface bodies then into say the first body, then component definition, then features, then i features it shows both ifeatures?

So it goes:

componentdefintion.surfacebodies.item(1).componentdefinition.features.ifeatures

Is there an area somewhere that only shows the 1 ifeature related to a solid?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multi Body - Find Both Faces Which Divide One Part Into Two

Sep 12, 2013

I have a multi-body part and want to find the both faces which divide the bodys. The first face I pick with the "SelectSet" command. The second one the program should find on its own.

If I pick a boundary face, it should give an error.

One attempt is to create a point on the first face and use the "LocateUsingPoint". But is there a more elegant way for this task?

(Unfortunately there are little examples of the topic multi-body parts.)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cut And Paste Solids To Create Multi Body Part

Jan 31, 2011

After migrating my project from MDT2009 to Inventor 2010, every solid body in MDT became a part file in INV.  If I were modeling from scratch, some of the .IPTs should be multibody parts.  Is there any way to cut & paste a solid from one part to another to create a multibody part?  I’m not talking about deriving a new part from the source parts.  The end result should be a multibody part with all sketches intact and all solids fully editable, as if I had modeled them as a multibody part right from the beginning.

I’ve attached a simple example of two separate parts that should be combined into one multibody part, as shown in the .JPG file.  Can it be done without deriving the parts?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multi Body Cut Derive - Manual Editing In Part

I have a multi body part with an extruded cut through all solids.  Each solid is derived out to its own part.  I edited the extrude feature in the multi body part and removed one solid from the selection set.  The cut was correctly deleted from the solid, but when I open the part its still there.  The only way to make it update correctly is to manually edit the derive  feature in the part.  Caught it just before it went off for cutting.  2012 SP2, all hotfixes, win7 64 bit.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Color / Appearance Of Faces On Part File?

Dec 19, 2012

I quite often import hardware models downloaded form various mfg or supplier websites. McMaster Carr for example provides a great deal of hardware models.  While they offer native formats for SW they do not do this for IV (not many places do)

Since the [imported] models often open up with default properties, I change the material to something that closely represents the actual hardware or item.  In some cases, there are certain portions of the item that are in reality colored or textured differently and I sometimes want to duplicate that for aesthetics and a more accurate view for people that use my assembly files.

In SW, it was always real easy to select just a face (regardless of whether the surface was part of an entire part, a feature, an imported solid body, etc.  I could always change the properties of just a face or slection of faces.  Since it was a standard pc of hardware, I had no concern about updates.

I have a part file that contains two imported solid bodies.  If I select just a single face and try to change the color of it, it changes the entire part.  Not what I want.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Hole Feature In Solid Body Part File And Bolted Generator

Nov 21, 2011

If we require to create patterned holes thru a number of solids, this works great only requiring the one hole feature.

However, once an assembly is created with the parts, (these parts obviously have their own derived individual solids in them) when needing to place a bolted generated assembly to the patterned holes. It won't recognise the pattern.

So I've come to the conclusion that the bolted generator/drop place function really needs improvement for solid body modelling technique. (Mind you, the BG needs a complete rethink because its at about 50% complete).

What I can see needs to be added, is the functionality of the parts recognising the hole pattern. e.g. when using the make components function it gives an option to add a link to the hole feature.

My only other option at present is to create the holes within the assembly file and transfer the hole feature to each part file. This obviously loses the parametric functionality.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Merits Of Layout Modeling Or Multi-Body Part Modeling?

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Scale A Part

How do I scale a part? in the old mechanical desktop software, typing scale and then picking the part and entering the fraction worked great. Why is it so difficult to figure out how to do it in Inventor? I don't need the Derive concept, it is not what I am looking for. I just want to scale a part and save it as a new part with no relation to the original.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Scale A Part Down

Mar 8, 2012

How do I scale a part down?  I made my parts full size but need to scale them down to create a model.

I did some searching and see that the Derive part command will allow me to enter a scale factor... this is great, but I can't edit the part after that.  In particular, I need to get to all the sketches contained in this part to make some changes after I scale them down, so the Open Base Component command won't work, as I'm not editing full sized dimensions.  A Derived part seems to be locked and reduced to a solid body.

I have made some attempts to figure out how to do this on my own but all have failed:Thicken/OffsetCopy Object + Move Bodies + Combine (wouldn’t let me create a solid with Copy Object)Rectangular Pattern + Combine (works but not the desired result. adds a constant offset to the part, not % based, humongous model size)Derived component (uniform scaling only, prefer to modify the original file for file structure reasons)

3ds Max Modeling :: Fitting Geometry Shape Into Human Body Mesh

Dec 13, 2013

I'm physiotherapist and researcher interested in human body posture analysis. Goal of my researches are to make 3d  digital model of human posture. Right now I'm using Microsoft kinect to build a human body model, but it's difficult to do automatic analysis on that mesh.  In our team we create an algorithm which analysis posture, right now we base on points located on the body, for that is necessary to manually locate that point's which is inaccurate and time consuming. Our idea is to use divide human body into segments and then fit in those segments some geometry figures ( cylinders , bal, ), next step is to calculate center of masses of those figures, so we simplify the posture to 20-40 points , and calculation of those points can be made automatic.
