AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Use Text That Will Automatically Orient Itself To 0 Angle
Jul 18, 2013
Is there a way to use text that will automatically orient itself to a 0 angle (left to right) in a viewport even if the viewport is rotated 90-degrees, or any degrees for that matter. Due to some pretty messy oriented viewports, My texts are rotated all over the place depending on what sheet I'm looking at.

I have a storm drainage drawing that has all the parts, pipes, and their labels in model space (as a data reference) and everything shows up fine in Civil 3D 2010. But my drafter opened the drawing in regular 2010 auotcad with object enablers loaded and the labels were rotated to the world coordinate system and not the plan view. Is there a setting in the styles that controls this?

I have a plan with lots and lot numbering. I made the lot number text annotative and matching view orientation. But when it rotates in the view it rotates about the left justification point instead of middle as inserted into drawing. So I inserted lot numbert text into drawing and changed text to non-annotative, but now i can not change the text rotation angle unless i use rotate command on each individual piece of text (was trying to pick all text and change in properties box). Using feature lines to assist in grading design so not sure if this is an autocad problem or a civil 3d 2012 problem. I can rotate dtext made or inserted in drawing.

I would like to draw a smiple line using the transparent command 'AD (angle-distance).
My distance is not horz., so I want to enter the Vertial angle and the slope-distance, in LLD the command was AD VD.
So how do you do this in Civil 3D 2012.

How does Inventor decide how to orient the axis for a new sketch? Sometimes, when I create a sketch on a face of a feature, the sketch sometimes rotates to an odd angle (Untitled.png). I can create a sketch on a different, parallel surface and the sketch doesn't go to odd angles. Why does Inventor do this?
How do I edit the orientation? I've attached the part that I'm having the issue in. When I try to create a sketch on the face of the loft, the x/y does things I don't understand.

I have an assembly that is derived from a solid body part. The assembly can rotate in the part hence the .iam that was created using Make Components also rotates. The trouble is I need to make a template drawing showing the assembly in the same position all the time.
Is there a way to make a base view always look at a surface and follow that surface so that the view on the drawing always looks the same?
For example: If I had a dice and I create a base view of the two dots side of the die. If I roll the die I still want to see in the base view the two dots side of the die in the same orientation.

Using: Land Desktop Companion 2009
Issue: Imbeded text in Linetype is automatically orienting the top of the text toward the center of the arc. I have tried to "reverse polyline" to fix this, but the text will not change. Is there a line property that I am missing that will allow the text to orient itself as readable from arc Point of begining to the end?

I am drawing an isometric drawing. In order to draw a dimension line, the tutor says I have to change the obliquing angle to s0 for left plane and -30 for right plane.
I could find anything in: Modify Dimension Style
Where should I change this angle?

I'm making this diagram of the load condition acting on tunnels to explain a Japanese set of equations that are used for the structural analysis for tunnels:
load condition for EEM.jpg
But, there is one problem I have. I'm trying to set up the text for the dimension between the water table and the tunnel "Ha" to look horizontal.
However, if I click on the properties box and write 90 in the rotation box right next to where it says "text rotation," the dimension text does not rotate 90 degrees; if instead I try to rotate it 180° then it only rotates 90° (and in the opposite direction) instead of 180°. It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, it won't rotate my dimension "Ha" to desired angle to make it look horizontal.
OK I know it's hard to explain my problem with just writing, so I've posted a few pictures:
In this one, the dimension is at 0°; I've only opened the properties box to attempt and rotate it: no rotation.jpg
Now I write 90 in properties box but the dimension text does not rotate at all; it remains at 0 as it is shown in the following image: 90 & no rotation.jpg
Next I try to rotate 180, just to see what happens; and it does rotate (only 90 degrees!): 180 rotates 90.jpg
I finally try to rotate the text 270 just to see if it rotates to desired angle and it does rotate (180 degrees from original position). As shown below:
270 last try.jpg
It doesn't matter how many degrees I choose, I cannot make it look horizontal.
How can I set up my dimension text "Ha" to look horizontal?

I've received a drawing from a client today and in it there are several text styles. One has Arial as its font. When this text style is current and we insert some dtext AutoCAD does not prompt for the text rotation angle, it uses the last rotation angle we used.
As far as I know there is no system variable that controls this behaviour, or have I missed it. Other delivered text styles do not have this problem.

get 2012 to make an expression for curve delta angles come in DMS and not decimal degrees? Why do I need this? Well C3D does not have a delta angle label for curve pipe and our client requires it on the drawings.

Is there a quick way to rotate an object to match an angle without knowing what the angle is? I am using AutoCAD 2011 now. I was using 2007 and I had an add on command the would rotate an object using a base point and picking the two lines that make up the angle, and it would match the angle you wanted. I can not get that command to load in 2011.

I have a property line that is N 36d19'52" E but needs to be N 12d52'18" E. The obvious and calculated rotation angle would be 23d27'34" but when I rotate the line by the calculated angle it doesn't rotate to the right angle. It's off by 0d11'10"!? When I draw a line by bearing at N12d52'18" E and inquiry the angle between the property line and the drawn line the angle difference is in fact 23d27'34".

I'm looking for a lisp routine that allow me to select a text object that is rotated to anything other than zero, and it will change the text object to zero rotation and while still in the command allow me to place the text object on the screen.
I have a routine that is similiar called RT180 but it just rotates whatever text object you select 180 degrees from its current rotation, but I can not figure out how to modify it to rotate to zero rotation angle. What I like about RT180 is that you select your text it rotates it on the spot and then lets you pick a spot to place it.

Just started a drawing in C3D 2013 using an existing template. If I draw an arc using the "Angle" rather than length or radius, entering the angle as 11.1601, then label the arc, the delta angle is converted to hms or 11.0936 . The template and labeling style are ones we've used for several releases. I've compared the feature settings, units and the curve labeling command and can not find where this is being changed.

I am trying out this option, and am noticing that whenever I close and reopen the drawing with a surface that uses this option, it resets my maximum angle from whatever I have it set to, to 90 degrees. Am I missing some setting that defaults the max angle to 90 degrees on drawing open? Or is something else going on here?

My parcel inverse reports from the Toolbox Report Manager are still coming in with the bearings having decimal seconds to 3 places (N 0-00-00.000 E). I have already changed the variable for angle precision to zero in the "General_Formating_JScript" xsl file but it's still not coming out correctly. Is there any other file that holds an additional angle or bearing precision setting?

how to convert "real world" angles of elliptical arcs into those shown in a dxf file?
Say that I have drawn an elliptical arc with its start angle on 210 degrees and an end angle of 324 degrees. The values in a DXF file, for an elliptical arc, have something to do with the contant "PI" (3.14159). I know that a full circle is 2*Pi but how to do this with elliptical arcs!!
