Is it possible to convert a .dwg file into a solid model using Inventor 2010?
I have attached a wireframe electric motor in .dwg format.

I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was given a .sat file from a third party company. When i pull it into CAD 2011 it comes in as a "body". It views like a wireframe object. I can't slice, subtract, union, etc. when i import it to Navis works it views like wireframe. The problem with this is that i can't run clash detection against this part then.
Any way to convert it to a solid?
URL....However when I try to export to .STL it won't do it because it is only surfaces and not a solid.I have searched everywhere on how to convert from surfaces to a solid but nothing I have tried has worked.

I'm looking for a lisp routine which will 'convert' number of 2dsolid into hatch. Drawing contains dozens of 2dsolids (solids are on one layer, there are also other entities on this layer) which have different colors, have common verticies and edges. i.e. I want to kind of 'join' solids of the same color and convert them into one hatch colored as original solids and placed on existing layer (let it be layer '0' zero for now). Same color solids can exist in few locations - there is a case to make few separate hatches of the same color (all joined solids should be represented as 1 hatch, should not separate after separate hatch command). There is max of 20 different colors (all of them from ACI index). Solids are not crossing themself or other solids (just joining with 1 or 2 verticies).
There are also 2dsolids with 'zero-area' - represented as a line - those should be erased at the beginning (not to have a line-like hatch).
Example drawing attached.
I have some DWG files which contain walls of old castle some of the vertex are missing so I have to join them manually or found software to generate them automatically Does solid works have this functionality ?
After joining vertex how can I convert walls to meshes?
We are going from Solid Works to Inventor as our main CAD program and will be converting files to .ipt and .i am. We are moving our file structure into the vault as it is, with some commonly-used components in their own folders. When I convert an assembly, it only grabs the parts that are in the same folder as the assembly. Is there a way to have it look in other folders for components or to have it ask me to locate ones that are not in the assembly folder?

Any pdf converter that supports 64 bit and works with the huge pdfs I'm getting.
The dwg does have aerials in them.
A client has asked me if I can give them a .nc file so they can directly input into their cnc machines.
I know that I can save an autocad drawing, or objects in a drawing, as a .DXF file. I also know that i can purchase, or obtain an open-source version of, software that will then convert the .DXF file to a .nc file. Currently, my company does not do 3-d models. I have not dealt with this before, so, I am wondering if my drawings will need to be 3-d in order for the .nc code to be correctly read.
Question about taking an eps file and changing it to a dxf, I have another question. I downloaded and registered the Ghostgum software and also the pstoedit software to change the logo I have as an eps file into something I can import into CAD as a dxf. But it won't let me do it. I have searched the help menu in the ghostgum software for a solution but nothing seems to be working. A warning dialogue box comes up saying the interpreter seems to have failed and cannot proceed. I am attaching a copy of the logo I am trying to convert.

View 2 Replies View RelatedBasically the problem is we have converted a PDF drawings to DWG files. But the created file was very large like 50mb per file. When I tried to look at it in 3D view, it looks like a city.. but it is not solids and some lines are made from hatches. Before I remember we tried the flatten command to flatten the drawings but when I use the softwares that we have (from autodesk) it doesn't have that command. I searched the net for some solutions or an equivalent command for flatten but it doesn't solve the problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI designed artwork for a large banner (84" x 32") so my AI artboard is that large. As you can imagine, with all the text and graphics I used, this file size is 22.8 MB. I need to email this art to the printer, but the file size is too large to email. How do i go about reducing the file size in AI so it still maintains large format print resolution? Will saving to a PDF lose the print quality?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there any way converting surface to 2d hatch ? I am making plan view to show materials used to make my road , to do that i need to hatch all the plan in different hatches ( for example sidewalks - green, paves -yellow, shoulders - brown... ) .
I could try hatching closed polylines made from corridor feature lines , but i get often an error that my boundaries aint closed . SO i started to think , maybe there is a way to do something from surfaces.
I am trying to convert my corridors to solids and under toolspace-settings-corridor-commands there is a command called export corridor to solid but this option is not coming up in my toolspace.
I made this original file in civil 3d 2013 but am working on in in civil 3d 2014
I am doing a little trial and error on possibly converting a drawing from .ctb to .stb. When we start a new drawing, it will be started using named plot styles so it shouldn't be an issue. But there are times when we receive a drawing from someone else and need to convert it.
The first thing I did was convert ctb to create a conversion .stb. Then I used convert pstyles to convert the drawing to named plot styles. For the plot style table I chose the conversion .stb I just created because it needs a color mapping table.
But I don't want to use the converted .stb table, I want to use my company plot style. So when I am in layer properties manager, Plot Style is still grayed out and I can't change it.
When I type in pstylemode, the default is 0 (read only). How do I change it so it's not read only and I can use my own plot style table?
I have some polylines that mark the edge of roadway and around the curves there are arcs in the linework. How do I turn the polyline with arcs in it into a polyline with vertices, say, every .5' or so along the curve and turn the curve into a polyline? I tried the pedit and using decurve but it doesn't work well.

I have a project that I need to get GIS data converted to CAD so I can edit in CAD. I am not looking to convert it back to GIS. I've tried the Export to CAD but all I get is line work. The GIS data is for water, sewer & drainage. I need to get the manholes, valves, etc. Not being familiar with the GIS software (ArcGIS) Maybe part of the problem is not using a seed file in the conversion.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf I use the CAD 'Plot Stamp' while converting a drawing to a PDF file (DWG to PDF), everything works as it should.
If I try to print it out on paper, it doesn’t work at all, even though it looks ok in the preview (however, if while in the preview, I try to zoom in on the Plot Stamp to see what's actually written, it disappears). Instead of being 'BR vertical' it's 'BR horizontal', It prints mostly out of the printable area and the text is a smaller size than specified.
What's the best way to get a high quality PDF from a DWG?We find the quality from the 'DWG to PDF' printer to be a bit disappointing. If we 'Publish to PDF' from a 'Sheet Set', it's a bit better...
Is it possible to make a solid (that i can slice in autocad) from a *.skp ( 3d) file from sketch up.
