I have a huge subdivision that we are about to do in civil 3d. The subdivision has over 1800 lots. I am wondering what is the best way to go about this. At the moment we are thinking we have to do the alignments, profiles and corridors all in one design drawing for it all to be dynamic? If so this file is going to be huge. Is there a way we can split it up and still keep everything dynamic?

Is there any way converting surface to 2d hatch ? I am making plan view to show materials used to make my road , to do that i need to hatch all the plan in different hatches ( for example sidewalks - green, paves -yellow, shoulders - brown... ) .
I could try hatching closed polylines made from corridor feature lines , but i get often an error that my boundaries aint closed . SO i started to think , maybe there is a way to do something from surfaces.
I am trying to convert my corridors to solids and under toolspace-settings-corridor-commands there is a command called export corridor to solid but this option is not coming up in my toolspace.
I made this original file in civil 3d 2013 but am working on in in civil 3d 2014
I have imported a wire frame as a dxf file from another 3d modeling program and want to know how to convert it to a civil 3d solid.

When we start a new drawing, it will be started using named plot styles so it shouldn't be an issue. But there are times when we receive a drawing from someone else and need to convert it.
The first thing I did was convert ctb to create a conversion .stb. Then I used convert pstyles to convert the drawing to named plot styles. For the plot style table I chose the conversion .stb I just created because it needs a color mapping table.
But I don't want to use the converted .stb table, I want to use my company plot style. So when I am in layer properties manager, Plot Style is still grayed out and I can't change it.
When I type in pstylemode, the default is 0 (read only). How do I change it so it's not read only and I can use my own plot style table?
I have some polylines that mark the edge of roadway and around the curves there are arcs in the linework. How do I turn the polyline with arcs in it into a polyline with vertices, say, every .5' or so along the curve and turn the curve into a polyline? I tried the pedit and using decurve but it doesn't work well.

I have a project that I need to get GIS data converted to CAD so I can edit in CAD. I am not looking to convert it back to GIS. I've tried the Export to CAD but all I get is line work. The GIS data is for water, sewer & drainage. I need to get the manholes, valves, etc. Not being familiar with the GIS software (ArcGIS) Maybe part of the problem is not using a seed file in the conversion.

View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I am attempting to create a simple grading daylight. I began with a 3D Polyline that has only 2 verticies. When I "Convert Feature Lines from Objects," it creates a feature line with 4 verticies. The 1st and last have the initial elevations from the 3D Poly, but the 2 new verticies seem to be pulling elevations off the surface below where I am working.
My questions are: 1) why are new verticies added? 2) can this be prevented?
I know that I can overwrite the slopes in elevation editor, but this seems like an unnecesarry extra step.

I'm trying draw profile, I see "compile error can't find project or library",
then I select "convert VBA pipe and structure rules to .NET" it works until I turn off civil 3d
how to do, that it works for everytimes?
I need to update metric numbers on a older CAD file to imperial numbers. Right now it is all single line text. Any way to easily convert single line text to some format that could then be converted from metric to imperial? I have stationing, pipe sizes (in milimeter), inverts, etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAny program or routine in lisp or net that can select a group of 3d polylines in the form of a tin and convert them all to 3d faces?
I know that I can take the 3d polylines and explode them to 3d lines. Then I can use map clean to delete the duplicate lines. Then I can create a C3D surface using the 3d lines. Then I can extract 3d faces from the surface.
Since I'm so darn clever I decided I could "save as" a 2009C3d-32bit drawing to 2011C3D-64bit. This drawing was working just peachy for a while. There are no data links. The drawing contained 2009 surface and point groups. I imported some Pipe styles created in 2011. Created 800' of profile, and my pipe network. When I was closing the drawing I got a lot of errors wanting to know if I wanted to save changes to VBA-pipes. Seemed like a good idea at the time so I said Yes. This morning I opened the drawing and it's there but the surface from 2009 no longer has it's Definition data. The point group is gone, breaklines are gone. I needed to remove one lousy bad point out of my surface. The points in the drawing now have three copies and one has the elevation in the point description and you can't fix it. The 3 labels are all tied together and if you erase one they all disappear. I am going to wing it from here and get this puppy out of the office with a little old fashioned autocad. This is my question. Should I have just started a new drawing in 2011, clipped all my old line work and text from the 2009, imported the points and rebuilt my surface? Did I do something wrong and there was some way I should have been able to make this work? I was running 2009 and 2011 on my computer but had to remove 2009 last week. It no longer like livng with his better looking brother "2011" and I had to put him out. I have numerous small projects created in 2009 so this will happen again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a baseplan I was sent for senior design project and it was previously created in an earlier version of autocad. However Im not sure which version it was created in. There are almost 3000 points and contours but I can not use these points to create a surface. I am ultimately trying to create a surface and then a profile for a road to design vertical curves throughout.
I cut out a few points and copied them into a new drawing due to the size of the actual file
Any way to convert all of the single line text in exisitng drawings to multiline text without having to do them individually in Civil3d.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am cleaning up a drawing from another company, (changing linetypes, text, layers, blocks). When i change blocks, opening the block that I want and saving it as the one that is there, the block comes in at a scale that is a lot larger then what i would like. After saving the new block, if i insert it in, it comes in at the proper scale.
Both the drawing and the blocks are at unitless.
I have been using solid body ipts and iLogic code to drive them. I got a little carried away and noticed that the file size was 47 MEG. So I decided to start stripping out items in the model. I stripped out of all the code and all but the initial solid body. There is nothing left but a simple extruded feature. I saved the file and checked the size... 39 MEG.
What is it that could possibly be left in the ipt that would be 39 MEG? I probably deserve this punishment for pushing Inventor beyond its "normal" capabilities.
Is it a proper way of copy some details or layout from DXF files to CAD file? I received multiple(10 files, 2.5mb average) DXF file from source, and they need to input some layout of it to the base CAD Drawing file.My CAD file became huge (around 40mb) when I copy some of the layout from DXF. Do I need to save DXF file into CAD file before I copy some of their layout to get a lower file? I need to send the CAD file to the source for their copy.
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast month, I was drafting a simple 2d floor plans for my school assignment but the cad file size became huge and started to crash. After consulting my lecturers, I did a few things to attempt to solve the overly huge file size.
1. Redrew the drawing from scratch
2. Purged both old & new drawings
3.Auditted both old & new drawings
4. Saved each floor plan as a separate drawing so as to reduce file size
However, the same problem occurred and the new drawings also became too huge & slow to work with.
I have an idw file that has absolutely nothing in it.
The file size if 17.5Mb.
May need to add it to an ftp site if someone has available.
When I plot a E size template the margins all around are to huge. It is set to extents. How to correct this?

I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a huge array of circles (4000 x 12000 or so). I work in microfabrication and need this to make a mask for lithography of a membrane. What is the best practice to minimize the memory usage? I.e. arrays, blocks, groups? I tried making an array of circles one row and 4000 columns then making that a block. Then repeating that block down for multiple rows, maybe 100, then making that a block. Repeating this until I have thousands of them. Is this the best way? It bogs down and gets incredible slow which I am hoping to avoid. I realize that it is inevitable that it will get slow with these huge numbers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy custom linetype (something like this ----W----W----W----W---- ) doesn't work as a huge polyline (6 units wide.) The line is wide enough but the letters are tiny dots.
If I try to set the lineweight by layer, the maximum is 2.11 mm, which is way too small for the 50" by 70" map I'm working on.
Is there a way to get a nice looking line that wide with letters ( ----W---- for water, -----S---- for sewer, etc.) or should I tell my boss that we have to use the standard lines?
