AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Converting 32bit 2009 Drawing To 64bit 2011?
May 24, 2012Since I'm so darn clever I decided I could "save as" a 2009C3d-32bit drawing to 2011C3D-64bit. This drawing was working just peachy for a while. There are no data links. The drawing contained 2009 surface and point groups. I imported some Pipe styles created in 2011. Created 800' of profile,and my pipe network. When I was closing the drawing I got a lot of errors wanting to know if I wanted to save changes to VBA-pipes. Seemed like a good idea at the time so I said Yes. This morning I opened the drawing and it's there but the surface from 2009 no longer has it's Definition data. The point group is gone, breaklines are gone. I needed to remove one lousy bad point out of my surface. The points in the drawing now have three copies and one has the elevation in the point description and you can't fix it. The 3 labels are all tied together and if you erase one they all disappear. I am going to wing it from here and get this puppy out of the office with a little old fashioned autocad. This is my question. Should I have just started a new drawing in 2011, clipped all my old line work and text from the 2009, imported the points and rebuilt my surface? Did I do something wrong and there was some way I should have been able to make this work? I was running 2009 and 2011 on my computer but had to remove 2009 last week. It no longer like livng with his better looking brother "2011" and I had to put him out. I have numerous small projects created in 2009 so this will happen again.

Dec 5, 2013I am transforming water system components from Autocad dwg files (created in Civil 3d 2013 I think) to a personal (or file) geodatabase in ArcGIS 10.1. I am not familair with using Civil 3d.
I would like to know if there is some way I can export (as ESRI shapefile) AECC alignment objects (waterlines) as lines/polylines and preserve associated data (flow direction and station label info) as field attributes associated with the lines/polylines. I am not sure if there is elevation data associated with the alignments, but would want to preserve that data too if it is available.
Currently working with water system asset inventory mapping and geodatabase design
using Autocad Map 3d 2014 on Windows 7
using ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 on Windows 7
using ArcGIS 10.2 on Windows 8.1

Apr 12, 2013Using Civil 3D 2013. I've exported my Civil 3D points to an SDF and then to a shapefile. I cant get the "Z" elevation to come with it. Northing and Easting is correct, only problem is that is holds a zero elevation. how I can get the elevations to show correctl in the shapefile?

Sep 17, 2012I work for a very large Electrical company in Toronto and we are having problems with one of our major clients (happens to be one of the biggest design construction companies in Toronto).
They designed the job with Microstation and the contractor and sub trades on site all use Autocad. However we have to edit all the original drawings from the designer with Autocad to do the as built drawings and then transfer them back into DGN for the submittals.
However despite all our efforts every time we transfer them in Autocad the text alignment is off. including the dimensions which for what ever reason show up upside down?
Now we are talking about thousands of drawings here so any easy way to convert files from dgn to dwg and have it work out perfectly.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Data Reference Alignment Stationing Differs From Original Alignment
May 3, 2012I using a data reference/shortcut to properly label an alignment in paperspace. However when I reference the alignment in and apply the labels the aren't the same as the original alignment that I am referencing. Is there a setting where I am supposed to apply a new beginning station.
Also it seems as though the stationing(distance) isn't even matching up 1:1 with the original drawing. For example in the original base drawing my alignment starts at 10+00 with the next PI at 14+76.98, but the stationing on the reference alignment starts at 0+83.33 with the very same PI being labeled as 1+23.08. So the very same distance is 476.98' in the real design and the drawing it's being referenced in, but the stationing of the referenced alignment shows it as 39.75 Units.
I've attached a screen of the beginning of the alignment.

For example, for an alignment that was created with alignment label set X - change the label set to alignment label set Y? AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Alignment Begin Station Inherited From Another Alignment
Aug 8, 2012Can I inherit the station from one alignment as the begin station for another alignment?
For example. Alignment 1 is 1000 ft long and starts at sta 0+00.
At sta 8+01, Alignment 2 begins and goes off in another direction.
I manually enter 8+01 for begin station Alignment 2. Life is good. Still in the design stage, and customer needs to modify Alignment 1 to avoid something. Now Alignment 2 intersects Alignment 1 at sta 8+15, but same N/E coordinates.
I manually enter 8+15 for begin station Alignment 2.
It would be better if Alignment 2 could inherit the begin station based on the new stationing from Alignment 1.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Autodesk 2011 Crashes When Converting 3D Model - Drawing
Nov 1, 2011Autodesk Inventor Professional 2011 will crash when we try open a 3D model (Inventor Component) as a Baseline View for a new "Drawing" file.
To replicate the error, we draw a simple Circle and extrude it so it is then a 3D Model. We then create a new "Drawing" file, click the Baseline View button at the top left, and then select the 3D Model Inventor file (the extruded circle). The program crashes and we get the following error from Autodesk Software, NOT Windows.

This is for our college... students need to perform this action for their exam. We have had success using the same software and OS configuration, along with the same steps listed above, on different machines on campus. Not sure what is causing the error on these machines.

Dec 25, 2012I imported Google earth surface (at eye alt 600m) to civil 3d 2012 and created an alignment of length 181m.
When I exported same alignment to Google earth , it showed the length as 190m ( the difference increases with increase in length of alignment) And also the profile view of the alignment in the Civil D & Google earth varies.

It turns out they are using Civil 2011, and obviously are unable to open our drawing. As far as I'm aware, they need a TIN surface and cogo points, but I'm unsure of how to provide them with this other than reproccessing the job on an older version of Civil.
I'm thinking that I might be able to export to LandXML to keep all my points and surface, and then just export to Autocad 2010 for the linework?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: 2011 - Will Not Display Ribbon
Feb 11, 2013I am using Civil3d 2011 and the ribbon will not display. The button seem to work some times but I can't see the ribbon, QAT, or Infocenter. I tried relaoding the CUI files, updated video card drivers, Civil3D patches, even uninstalled and reinstalled Civil3D.
I can turn the ribbon off (ribbonclose) and the ribon area is rendered correctly on the screen. I can turn the menubar on/off and it works just fine.
I tried logging on to the computer as different user, as the administrator, etc. Same error.
I use the Ribbon but now I can't because I can't see it.
I have attached a screen shot of the ribbon area.

Aug 8, 2013We have some clients that are using version 2011 and we are using 2014. The landxml we made for them was too big for them to import. My boss made a DEM GEOTIFF to send as it was much smaller.
The client has called me and asked me how the heck does he import the file as he as never worked with them. I have a computer with a 2012 installation, but it's corrupt, none of the MAP utilities work.
how to instruct my client to import this file.

Feb 19, 2013I have a job that the customer provide the original CAD files with Civil 3D styles in them. As the project has progressed we have found many of the styles were not created properly and notified the customer. They have told us to fix the errors and send them the corrections...
Now that I have one file working properly I have to push the changes to the 30+ styles through the 100+ files of the job. Is there a quick way to do this in Civil 3D 2011? (It is part of our contract to use this specific program and release year without converting the files.) Or do I need to drag-and-drop each style into each file?

Apr 30, 2010I have yet to be able to connect to our ArcSDE database using 2011. In 2009 and 2010 Civil 3D I had to move 3.dll files from my ESRI directory to the FDO/bin directory for Civil 3D. This immediately allowed for a connection using CAD's Data Connect.

Mar 9, 2012Having trouble with splined polylines in 2011? I tried to edit a splined PLine and the program was unresponsive for about 10 minutes. After I edited the spline the drawing size doubled. I reverted to a backup and erased the spline. I drew a Pline and used Fit Curve with no problem.
I draw another PLine and didn't like the results. So I tried to spline it and now Civil is unresponsive for the past 5 minutes. I'm doing this on a different computer. So it isn't that particular machine or installation.

Nov 13, 2012I have a project that comes and goes. It was actually started in Softdesk. Right now I'm working in Civil 3D 2012. I have an alignment that represents the left edge of pavement. Although I'm calling an offset alignment. It was created before they existed. So it's not linked to the centerline. There have been many changes to it over the past few years. Now it has a problem.
I wanted to edit in the Panorama. Right-click > Edit Alignment Geometry > select Alignment Grid View from the Alignment Layout Tools. When I went to the last segment in the Gird View, which was near where I wanted to edit, a segment about two thirds of the way along the Alignment was highlighted. Further investigation showed that although the whole Alignment would highlight when selected, all commands said the Alignment ended much sooner than the end station.
I've found that that alignment has been broken for quite a while but was intact at one time. My question is - What's the best way to repair/recreate it. I know I can explode it and create a replacement Alignment from the resulting entities. But is that the best way?
