View 1 RepliesSeveral users here in my office have been having a strange issue with ACA 2011. When doing various things such as, saving, regen'ing, or manually switching between open drawings, ACA will "blink" to a completely different drawing.
For example, right now I have 4 drawings open. I'm trying to go from drawing A to drawing B. It goes to drawing B and starts to regen model space, then it blinks back to drawing A. Does the same for any of the 4 drawings. Only way to make it stop was to close drawing A.
As I said, it not only does this when switching drawings. It'll also do it after it's done saving and when I try to regen.
We are using AutoCAD 2011 and AutoCAD 2012 on the same drawings. It is slowing the drawings down in AutoCAD 2011. There is at least one person that only has AutoCAD 2012 on their machine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have used Inventor 2010 with PSP 2011.
- Recently we have upgrade to Inventor 2012.
- Installed pspro_cad_fp_10.0.39.3 update for PSP Server and for PSP Clients.
And now, some drawings we can not open in Inventor 2012. Inventor crashes!
But some drawings we are lucky to be able to open and work with.
Drawings have the same template.
If the drawing is locked (read only) then inventor 2012 can open it without a crash.
If I drag&drop drawing out from PSP onto my Desktop, Inventor 2012 can open drawing without problems.
So we are not able to work with some drawings in Inventor 2012 and PSP 2011.
As the first and quick (and 100%) solution - rollback to Inventor 2010 can cost us about 5 man-days of work. (Because we have done some work in Inventor 2012 allready and will not be able to work with this in Inventor 2010)
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2011 will crash when we try open a 3D model (Inventor Component) as a Baseline View for a new "Drawing" file.
To replicate the error, we draw a simple Circle and extrude it so it is then a 3D Model. We then create a new "Drawing" file, click the Baseline View button at the top left, and then select the 3D Model Inventor file (the extruded circle). The program crashes and we get the following error from Autodesk Software, NOT Windows.

This is for our college... students need to perform this action for their exam. We have had success using the same software and OS configuration, along with the same steps listed above, on different machines on campus. Not sure what is causing the error on these machines.
Since I'm so darn clever I decided I could "save as" a 2009C3d-32bit drawing to 2011C3D-64bit. This drawing was working just peachy for a while. There are no data links. The drawing contained 2009 surface and point groups. I imported some Pipe styles created in 2011. Created 800' of profile, and my pipe network. When I was closing the drawing I got a lot of errors wanting to know if I wanted to save changes to VBA-pipes. Seemed like a good idea at the time so I said Yes. This morning I opened the drawing and it's there but the surface from 2009 no longer has it's Definition data. The point group is gone, breaklines are gone. I needed to remove one lousy bad point out of my surface. The points in the drawing now have three copies and one has the elevation in the point description and you can't fix it. The 3 labels are all tied together and if you erase one they all disappear. I am going to wing it from here and get this puppy out of the office with a little old fashioned autocad. This is my question. Should I have just started a new drawing in 2011, clipped all my old line work and text from the 2009, imported the points and rebuilt my surface? Did I do something wrong and there was some way I should have been able to make this work? I was running 2009 and 2011 on my computer but had to remove 2009 last week. It no longer like livng with his better looking brother "2011" and I had to put him out. I have numerous small projects created in 2009 so this will happen again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedBasically the problem is we have converted a PDF drawings to DWG files. But the created file was very large like 50mb per file. When I tried to look at it in 3D view, it looks like a city.. but it is not solids and some lines are made from hatches. Before I remember we tried the flatten command to flatten the drawings but when I use the softwares that we have (from autodesk) it doesn't have that command. I searched the net for some solutions or an equivalent command for flatten but it doesn't solve the problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIs there any way of running a batch process to convert a number of AutoCad drawings into Tiff format, at once? Also, if a batch process is not available, can we save our plot settings for conversion to Tiff so that they can be recalled at a later stage? We would like to be able to transfer the same plot settings to other PCs so that we are all producing the same formatted files. Are the plot settings transferable?
View 5 Replies View RelatedOften i take 3D models and lay them out flat in Sheet Metal. Take the flat layout and convert it to DXF in AutoCAD. I recently came across an issue i haven't seen before and am confused as to how it occurred. I dimension the blanks in Inventor since Inventor is much more user friendly then AutoCAD as far as dimensioning goes. Somehow my DIMFactor was switched to .8 in AutoCAD which made my model scaled to 1.25 and therefore incorrect. I have no clue how i switched my DIMFactor to .8 in Autocad.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe are a water utility and have thousands of detail drawings of service taps and hydrant connections (maybe 11,000 total). These are in the old Microstation J format. Each drawing is divided into a top half and bottom half. The bottom half of the drawing is the actual drawing portion.
The top half of the drawing is text that comes out of an Old Oracle database, into Microsoft Word 2000 through mail merge then is copied and pasted into the top portion of the card. Newer drawings done like this and opened in AutoCAD have the top portion identified as an OLE object (embedded object), while the older drawings just look like a drawing in the top.
I'm looking to update the system to ArcGIS and AutoCAD. The data will be moved to a Microsoft Access database (probably later SQL Server), and I want to convert all the old Microstation drawings into an AutoCAD format. ArcGIS will provide the basemap and be linked to the database, with clickable hyperlinks to open the AutoCAD drawings. I would like to be able to keep the bottom drawing half while changing the top half of each drawing to reflect updated data in the database. If this can be automatically updated, that would be awesome.
One is the best program to automatically bulk convert the drawings from Microstation J to AutoCAD (I have 2011). Also, I'm looking for a method to display the text from the database in the top portion of the card using either mail merge with AutoCAD or some automatic method of pulling the info out of the database. Can I just copy-paste this info into AutoCAD as we did with Microstation or is there a better way?
We currently have all of our facility drawings in AutoCAD, but we do have Revit Architecture 2012 in house. I realize that converting drawings to Revit can be a huge undertaking.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a friend who does drawings on paper that he wants to get scalable. The high-level path appears to be scan the image and run autotrace in AI.
As I look at online articles, some suggest taking the raster into PS to erase the pencil marks and ink the image. My friend does the inking on the paper before the scan.
I have some experimenting to do with autotrace settings, but I can see right away that some of the lines on the image vary in width in both PS and AI. And, no matter how good his inking is, there is still quite a bit of "noise" along the lines. His inking also leaves quite a bit of variation in line width. What he wants is a constant width.
My question is: if you want a line to be of constant width and you have a scanned image to work with, which tool (PS, AI) and what technique is best to create the result.
One thought is, rather than try to clean up the line in either tool, the better approach might be to draw a new line using the scanned image as a guide. My concern is that the line won't be smooth if done by hand.
how i should convert a hand drawing in photoshop to be print-ready for a t-shirt image. i have a friend who is an artist with impeccable talent and i would like to get some of his designs on a few shirts i plan on making.
here's the deal: he can draw the image with shading or he can create it without (sort of like a vector graphic) but what is the normal procedure as far as getting a hand drawing ready for a shirt image? i haven't had him start yet because i wanted to instruct him first on which route to take. obviously, we don't want the pencil color to show but more of a bold darkened look so can i just simply darken the piece in photoshop or do i need to make adjustments in illustrator?
Is there any way to put the 2011 topobase and the 2011 ArcGIS plugin into 2012 or 2013? Seems such a shame just to lost all of that functionality.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using ACAD LT 2008.
When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.
Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?
I have a user who installed Map 3D 2011. We originally had some install issues, but a clean install and update to .NET framework 4.0 has seemed to finally be able to allow us to install the software. During installation the AV software was deactivated. User has full admin rights. Now when he double clicks the icon to launch the software he's receiving an error dialog box that is titled "Exception in acmgd.dll ARX Command". The only way he can get it to run correctly is to right click on the icon and select "Run As Administrator".

One of the things about Mtext that I really like is to dynamically adjust the text box size. I don't seem to be able to do this when using the multileader with the Mtext. The Mtext when selected with the Multileader acts like the single line text where I have to manually insert returns.
