Photoshop :: Converting Hand Drawings For T-shirt Design

Jun 4, 2004

how i should convert a hand drawing in photoshop to be print-ready for a t-shirt image. i have a friend who is an artist with impeccable talent and i would like to get some of his designs on a few shirts i plan on making.

here's the deal: he can draw the image with shading or he can create it without (sort of like a vector graphic) but what is the normal procedure as far as getting a hand drawing ready for a shirt image? i haven't had him start yet because i wanted to instruct him first on which route to take. obviously, we don't want the pencil color to show but more of a bold darkened look so can i just simply darken the piece in photoshop or do i need to make adjustments in illustrator?

Photoshop :: Extract T-Shirt Design From Damaged Photo

Nov 24, 2012

Some of you may have seen my thread in the Show-Board section about a damaged photo I have restored. On the photo there is a lady sitting to the left with a cream/white t-shirt on, I have been asked to try and restore that bit too rather than do what I have done in the resto.

This is all I have to go on:

Here is the original image:

and my Restoration so far:

They want the t-shirt as well but there is nothing to go on apart from some apparent squiggles, as you can see.

how I can extract it, I can't even make out what it says or else I would try and find the t-shirt and put it in.

Photoshop :: 3 Colour T-Shirt Design From Full Colour Image?

Aug 19, 2013

I am designing a T Shirt for my ski club.I have taken an image from a banner (made in illustrator, full colour image attached) and I want to devide into a 3 colour image for the t shirt (I am only allowed 3 colours for printing). The colours I want to use are black, white and purple. The colour of the t shirt is a light blue.I want to then put the purple logo on top of the white and black too.So I'm after a black and white grunge background with a punchy purple logo on the top.All of this should be on a tranparent or, for design purposes, light bue (same as T Shirt colour) background.

how to split a full colour image into using only 3 (4 including transparent/light blue background) exact colours.

If I were going to black and white I might convert to grey scale and then paint areas to fully white or fully black using an overlay brush I don't think this works for me for more than just black and white though.

I have attached two of my attempts where I used the colour range selection and level adjustments. Niether was really successful though (one does not use the right colours or number of colours but looks quite cool).

Photoshop :: Tidy Up Scanned Hand Drawings

Mar 21, 2012

I have several hundred TIF images at 1200 dpi+ which represent scans of hand drawings on parchment paper using pencil or ink-pen (.2mm or thereabouts) of 4000 year old cuneiform documents. The drawings were made over an extended period of time, the paper varied, and ultimately, the scans reflect this in that some lines are darker than others and there are occasional 'smudgy' areas etc.

What I would like to do prior to publication is to sharpen the images and make them consistent across the repertoire as black on white background.

how various Photoshop (CS5, Mac) commands do what they do, but I've found several that seem like they might get me where I want to go: Levels (Auto?), Threshold, Shadows/Highlights. I'd like to automate to run over a directory of images if possible. At the same time, I might have to change the dpi and output format of the new images.

In this case, the drawing is fairly clear (not much 'grey' background) but the lines are not as black and sharp as they could be.

Illustrator :: Creating Symmetric Design From Hand-drawn Base

Jun 17, 2013

I have designed a logo for a company rebrand which they are really happy with; the only thing is that one aspect of the logo is a kind of 'swirl stroke' (URL... ) which I had hand-drawn and modified in Illustrator. They would like this aspect of the logo to appear less hand-drawn, and be as symmetric and clean as possible (ie. in no way hand-drawn).

Photoshop :: Converting CMYK Design To K+1PMS

Apr 8, 2008

My design was originally created as a CMYK. Now, it needs to be converted to a Black + one PMS. Using channels, then copying and pasting portions into a new PMS channel, I thought I had it. However, two portions of the design are not looking right, and they were grayscale from the get-go!:

1) The grayscale photo I placed in the design is very washed out and I don't know why. It almost appears like it has hard light on it.

2) The grayscale illy design that I placed in this Photoshop design is also washed out.

It's almost as if the mid-range color (albeit grayscale) has been lost.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'm placing the design into an InDesign piece, and have half a mind to just delete the photo and graphic from Photoshop, and then bring them in straight into ID.....

Illustrator :: Converting Design (Logo) To Image

Jan 14, 2013

I've created a logo, and I'd like to use it in some PDF documents. I've tried several different methods for converting it into an image, but the image quality really degrades when I do. Maybe I'm expecting too much - since the vector image is essentially perfect - but it seems like there should be a way to come up with a decent looking image. Is there a "best practice" for this process?

AutoCad 2D :: Converting PDF Drawings To DWG File

Mar 28, 2011

Basically the problem is we have converted a PDF drawings to DWG files. But the created file was very large like 50mb per file. When I tried to look at it in 3D view, it looks like a city.. but it is not solids and some lines are made from hatches. Before I remember we tried the flatten command to flatten the drawings but when I use the softwares that we have (from autodesk) it doesn't have that command. I searched the net for some solutions or an equivalent command for flatten but it doesn't solve the problem.

Illustrator :: Converting Raster Drawings To Vector?

Jul 6, 2012

I have a friend who does drawings on paper that he wants to get scalable.  The high-level path appears to be scan the image and run autotrace in AI.

As I look at online articles, some suggest taking the raster into PS to erase the pencil marks and ink the image.  My friend does the inking on the paper before the scan.

I have some experimenting to do with autotrace settings, but I can see right away that some of the lines on the image vary in width in both PS and AI.  And, no matter how good his inking is, there is still quite a bit of "noise" along the lines.  His inking also leaves quite a bit of variation in line width.  What he wants is a constant width.

My question is: if you want a line to be of constant width and you have a scanned image to work with, which tool (PS, AI) and what technique is best to create the result.

One thought is, rather than try to clean up the line in either tool, the better approach might be to draw a new line using the scanned image as a guide.  My concern is that the line won't be smooth if done by hand.

AutoCAD LT :: Objects In Open Drawings Not Visible In Design Center

I have a few different drawings open which are displayed in the tree view of the 'open drawings' tab in the Design Center. But the objects of the drawings are not displyed. No +-sign in front of the drawing name, no icons in the icon field, just a summary at thebottom saying '0-items'.

I have tried reinstalling AutoCAD.

Also, if a batch process is not available, can we save our plot settings for conversion to Tiff so that they can be recalled at a later stage? AutoCAD Inventor :: DimFactor - Converting Models To Drawings

Often i take 3D models and lay them out flat in Sheet Metal.  Take the flat layout and convert it to DXF in AutoCAD.  I recently came across an issue i haven't seen before and am confused as to how it occurred.  I dimension the blanks in Inventor since Inventor is much more user friendly then AutoCAD as far as dimensioning goes.  Somehow my DIMFactor was switched to .8 in AutoCAD which made my model scaled to 1.25 and therefore incorrect.  I have no clue how i switched my DIMFactor to .8 in Autocad.

AutoCad :: Converting 1000's Of Files From Microstation J Drawings With Mail Merge Portion

Nov 9, 2011

We are a water utility and have thousands of detail drawings of service taps and hydrant connections (maybe 11,000 total). These are in the old Microstation J format. Each drawing is divided into a top half and bottom half. The bottom half of the drawing is the actual drawing portion.

The top half of the drawing is text that comes out of an Old Oracle database, into Microsoft Word 2000 through mail merge then is copied and pasted into the top portion of the card. Newer drawings done like this and opened in AutoCAD have the top portion identified as an OLE object (embedded object), while the older drawings just look like a drawing in the top.

I'm looking to update the system to ArcGIS and AutoCAD. The data will be moved to a Microsoft Access database (probably later SQL Server), and I want to convert all the old Microstation drawings into an AutoCAD format. ArcGIS will provide the basemap and be linked to the database, with clickable hyperlinks to open the AutoCAD drawings. I would like to be able to keep the bottom drawing half while changing the top half of each drawing to reflect updated data in the database. If this can be automatically updated, that would be awesome.

One is the best program to automatically bulk convert the drawings from Microstation J to AutoCAD (I have 2011). Also, I'm looking for a method to display the text from the database in the top portion of the card using either mail merge with AutoCAD or some automatic method of pulling the info out of the database. Can I just copy-paste this info into AutoCAD as we did with Microstation or is there a better way?

What I'm thinking of doing is just make the design's lineart on paper, scan, and color with photoshop. then preview and print on the transfer paper.
