The issue that I'm having really resides in AutoCAD 2012 after the file has been opened and saved in Civil 3D 2012.
For example, I can use AutoCAD to open a new or existing drawing that has never been used in Civil 3D. I'll run two audits, purge all twice, purge regapps, reset the scale list, then save the drawing. If I open it in AutoCAD again, the file size remains the same.
If I open it in Civil 3D, the file size increases that one time, which is fine. No matter how many times I open it and run the above commands, the file size doesn't change any more than 1 Kb while in Civil 3D.
BUT if I were then to open that same drawing in AutoCAD after closing it out of Civil 3D, then save - it will increase the file size by almost 100 Kb. No matter how much I run the previously mentioned commands the file size will not decrease in size. Additionally, every time I open that particular drawing in AutoCAD again and save it, it increases by another 100Kb+/-. These files are not very large, but I have wblocked some out to save more than 10 times the space.
I've seen similar posts, but they were regarding older versions and seem to be a little different than the problem we are experiencing.

We use LT 2012, and recently we started having issues with file size.
Some of our drawings went from 1.5MB to 12MB after saving.
We tried saving as DXF then PURGE, -PURGE to reduce the size but always comes back.
Now, in one of the drawings I did PURGE, AUDIT, -PURGE and erased everything in the drawing, file is still 1.8MB.

I am a newbie - so sorry if this is a dumb question. But when I open a JPG file with CS3 it will make it very large. For example - when I open a 2.75MB JPG file taken from a digital camera, CS3 somehow increases the file to 14 MB. When I open a 2MB JPG image sent from a graphic designer, CS3 shows the image as 31MB.

I am working on a x5 and file size seems to be very less approx 553kb when saved but when made a conversion to 12 version it is increasing to 24mb... how may sought this out by keeping the file size low..
Also i wonder what made the file size to increase so much.i converted all fonts to curves too.. decreased the resolution and tried but nothing seemed to decrease the file size.

Why does the image processor increase the filesize of pictures? I'm trying to resize a bunch of jpg's which are between 5-10kb, and when put through the image processor to save as jpg's with a setting of 0 quality, they come out as about 25kb each, even though the dimensions are smaller.

I don't understand why a video increased in size so that I cannot burn a DVD. The video was originally a 1 hour 26 min TV show on a VHS tape. I used a VCR/DVD combo unit to create a DVD, and created a MPEG2 on a hard drive using a conversion program. The size of the DVD is 2.89GB and the size of the MPEG2 is 2.85GB.
I imported the MPEG2 into a library folder in VS Pro X5, and dragged it into the video track. A right click to look at Properties in both the library and video track shows a size of 2,998,518KB, which is 2.86GB. I went straight to Share without adding titles or anything to the video. I selected Create a Disc and took the basic defaults for the menu in Share and didn't edit any of the menu text. When I get to the Output section, the Required/Available Disc Space is in red and has the following information:
5.08GB/4.38GB
(5.45GB)/(4.71GB)
Where did I get the 2.23GB in video growth? I saw a post from Jan 2012 that mentioned data rates for a 60 min. and 120 min. DVD. My Properties shows a data rate of Variable bit rate (Max 6124kbps). Could this be a reason for the growth? If so, how do I change it?

Last week one of my Lightroom databases had a size of 400MB. After I installed some new hardware components last weekend I continued to work in that same database and three days later the size had increased up to 800MB. I didn't import any new images. I just worked on several files, added some Adjustment Brushes and created 1:1 previews for a small part of the images in this catalog.
What is causing this increase in file size? Which info is actually stored inside these lrcat-files? What about the History, where is that info stored? Can I create a new catalog from scratch and keep the settings and changes, using Export as Catalog?

I have Photoshop CS6 and Elements Premiere 11 and both were showing estimated file sizes properly up until a couple of weeks ago, and both stopped at the same time. Using Image, Mode I have verified on both that the images I am trying to save are 8 bit and not 16 bit images. I am on Window 7, 64bit.

am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?

Civil 3D 2013.One of the problems my team has is that we have a number of remote offices that all work on the same drawings. To ensure integrity of the drawings, we use a Wide Area file replication and locking service to ensure the files do not become out of sync and corrupted between offices.
AutoDesk seems to open and save files and their subordinate xrefs serially in a single thread instead of in a multi-threaded manner. Because of this there is a Huge time impact on just opening and saving files at remote sites as a result of Civil 3D having to wait for the home office file lock check on each and every file before opening the next file.
We have 100Mbit down / 20Mbit up transmission links at both sites dedicated to the file replication, with Gbit backbone in both offices.
note that the remote site has a full copy of all files in its replicated share. These local files are what Civil 3D is opening. No Files are being transferred during file open unless a remote change has just occurred (proven through replication logs).
When the drawing file is opened for editing, a file lock check is performed and Windows waits for the response to ensure it can be opened for editing before telling Civil 3D. When Civil 3D has this file open, it has a list of all the xrefs for this file. Civil 3D then seems to open each file in sequence.
This is a problem when a large latency is introduced through our 3rd party Wide area file system by a remote site file lock check.
This is not AutoDesk's fault but the compounding of the two system's operational behaviours, causing a Very long wait on file open, Save, PaperSpace operations (30 minutes for large drawings).
I would like to see a multithreaded (threadpool) file open occur against the entire list of xrefs (during save as well). Then recursively executed for all subordinate xrefs of those files until the operation is complete.
As long as a file list is maintained during the operation and updated as each file operation completes (which obviously it is) in the primary thread, this should not cause any problem. All dependancies can be opened in sequence once the initial file operations are complete and when a particular file in the list is required but not open yet, it's priority can be raised in the threadpool.

In playing around with some settings while saving a .png file, I noticed some weird results. For this example, the original image is 300 x 300, but I want the final size to be 200 x 200. I get different results depending on the order I perform the following operations (I never thought the order mattered until now).
1. start with 300 x 300 image, choose save for web, select png-24, with transparency, white matte, convert to sRGB, change image size to 200 x 200, then save - the file size is 37kb.
2. start with 300 x 300 image, use Photoshop's "image size" to change to 200 x 200, then save for web, etc - the file size is 111kb
So depending on which step I resize the image, the file size is significantly different - if I resize BEFORE using save for web, the file size is much larger. This is just weird to me, but I always resize AFTER choosing save for web, so that's why I've never caught this until now. In case you ask, while using Photoshop's "image size", all three options are checked at the bottom of that window, so nothing is getting re-sampled or anything like that.
The only thing I can think of is each of those methods treat pixel data differently when reducing the dimensions. When I overlay both exported .png files on top of each other, I see no difference in pixel quality and/or color shift - so why the big difference in file size? if I just save the file straight to .png, the sharpness is much better, and the file size is 46 kb. I did notice when saving for web, the colors become a little more saturated.I've never really paid much attention to the results when exporting .png's.

I realise there are pros and cons to this question and the temptation is to opt for the highest quality, but the file sizes are huge. So, my camera files will be mainly 1080 files at 30fps, what will be the best file type/size to save files for future use. I don't really mind the rendering time and space isn't a huge problem, but the variety of file types is bewildering. Most clips will find their way to DVD but I don't want to reduce resolution as they might be used at a later date for Blu-Ray.

I'm working on a large tradeshow booth design. It was suggested that if my computer can handle it, to work at scale (120 " X 90") at 150dpi. So I am.
I am nearly finished designing and now Photoshop 7 is giving me an error:
"Cannot save file...the document size exceeds 2G." Or words to that effect.
The document window tells me that the file is 970 MB, less than a Gig.
I've purged all hidden layers to reduce the overall files size. No go.
I removed the last image I had in the design, which used outer glow effect, and now the file will save.

I'm currently in the process of organizing my music collection with album art. I found a great site with high quality images[URL] .... and would like to resize pictures to 600x600 within the range of 200-300KB. Is there a way to automatically do this without changing the quality percentage by trial and error?

I am trying to optimize some images for web to have a smaller file size. I am using "Save for Web" feature, and every time I try to save a file, the actual file output size is a lot bigger than the size it shows on the "Save for Web" dialog.
For example, I have a 607 bytes .gif, when I open "Save for Web" it shows 207 bytes for 16-colors but when I save it the output file is 1.22 kb.

Is there a way, when saving jpg files to save as a specific file size, rather than quality level (currently using CS5)? I have a few clients (realtors) who require files to be 100kb (or smaller... but 100kb is the ideal to shoot for) for their listings.
Given I'm working with a number of images, I would like to be able to do this as a batch, rather than one at a time, getting as close to 100 as I can without going over, as I have to at this point.

I have videos from my camera at 1440x1080, and after I edit them on Videostudio x4, when I save them (using MPEG4HD or AVCHD for example), the resulting file size is larger than the original. So I decided to use an encoder such as Xvid for reducing the file size. I choose avi as the output format and then in the options I set the resolution to 1440x1080 (not listed in the standard combobox, btw) and choose Xvid as the encoder (also tried ffdshow). But the resulting video is a smaller picture with a big black border instead.

when using the Save for Web... feature there is a place on the Quality slider where one point makes a disproportionately large jump in file size. It seems to me it is always at 50-51 but I'm not positive of that. Here are some results from a Save for Web...
47 = 226.7K
48 = 230.1K
49 = 236.2K
50 = 239.8K
51 = 298.2
52 = 300.5
etc.
I wonder why that sharp jump exists when files grow fairly proportionately above and below that 'break point." Needless to say I always keep an eye out for that issue when saving for web.

I have an image received from a client in .eps format. I need to get it into either a .gif or .jpg format AND the final file MUST be .8 inches x .3 inces, AND no more than 10K in size. How can I save it with these dimensions/constraints and not lose resolution? What I have tried - export to .jpg (file is 5 inches x 3 inches), export and change resolution to 100ppi (image is nearly the right dimensions, but blurry). The tools I have are AI and PS both version CS5

I am having a problem when exporting surface data into an .xml format using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. I am using LIDAR information to create a surface over an area of approximately 3 hectares in order to undertake future flood modelling. When I have created my surface in Civil 3D the overall file size is around 5MB, however when the surface exported to a .xml format the file is approximately 860MB. I have tried to create a new surface from contour information to decrease overall fle size but with no avail. Any recommendations to decrease the .xml file size without having excessive loss of accuracy for my modelling.
Lidar information that I am using to create surface can be found at URL.....

In vX1 I could save jpeg without substantially reducing file Mb size. In vX4, whenever I edit and save a jpeg file (using save & save as), it results in a reduced number of Mb's. Options in the 'save as' dialog are set at best. It would appear that PSP X4 is automatically optimising. Is there any way that the original file size can be retained on saving after editing?

I have a PSD file (16bits/prophoto RGB) with some layers. I combine the layers to ONE and change the bit depth to 8 bits.
Then I do one of two things:
(a) I save the file for the web in JPEG 90% high-quality and with sRGB ... filesize 340 602
(b) I change the color profile to sRGB and save the file as JPEG in the highest quality (10) ... filesize 174 549
I am at loss here. How on earth is it possible that the second file is almost half the size as the one saved for the web?What effect causes this? It is very easy to save for yhe web but as long as the JPEGs are that bigger it's no option.

Modifying the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale,
I’m wondering how the point size/text size assigned at particular annotation scale can be modified.
For example, in the attached screenshot, the point size assigned at the annotation scale of 1/1000 is big and I wanted to make it a bit smaller at that scale.
Software: AutoCAD 2014, AutoCAD C3D, AutoCAD M3D, Revit
Windows 7 (Ultimate 64 bits),
Firefox 20.0,
Kaspersky 2013.
