AutoCAD 2013 :: Editing The Rectangular Part Numbering Tag?
Sep 20, 2012Can the rectangular box around the number tag be edited or removed all together?

View 1 RepliesNormally you start with new models/assemblies/and drawings when you use the templates the naming by default is part1.ipt, assembly1.iam, drawing1.idw
I am currently at part431.ipt and assemby57.iam
I am concerned I may eventually reach part1000.ipt LOL
Currently using Inventor2012.
Part numbering schemes. At my workplace we have descent naming conventions for top level assemblies/products however our substructuring is quite a mess. A previous workplace had a set in stone scheme for naming sub assemblies and parts based on the top level assembly or product.
I am in the process of developing a policy and am curious to see what others have done instead of re inventing the wheel.
I have created an iAssembly which contains 4 assembly variations. I now want to create an assembly drawing for these variations.
In this case all my assembly variations will have the same assembly part number as essentially they are all the same assembly except for a few "change over parts".
I intend to have one drawing with multiple sheets. Each sheet will have one variation of the assembly on it with a BOM for that specific variation. The problem I am having though is that the drawing BOM for each variation are linked and as a result each drawing has an inconsistant item numbering (for someone in the workshop who doesnt understand the CAD package and iAssemblies - They ask the question: Why are you skipping item numbers in the BOM's)
Is there any way I can get each BOM to show the item numbers sequentially? I tried editing the drawing BOM item number but the problem is that method propogates the item number changes to all the other BOM's as well.... (It is also tedious AND in my opinion it is generally bad practice to edit the BOM at the drawing level)
Is it possible to move the autolayout data of this existing rectangular pipe (see attached). I want my pipe to attach at the top or bottom rather than the middle. I tried creating one from scratch but don't really know what im doing yet and can't seem to get it to validate.I've seen a bunch on creating structures, but not much on pipes.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd be efficient & use one assembly with a couple View Reps to represent two variations of our product. But I ran into a problem editing two part lists on an IDW file. Most of the parts are identical.
I have two part lists on an IDW for the same asy & each part list is filtered for one of two View Reps - works great! But I discovered when I edit the item number order in one part list to harmonize with the other, the other one gets re-ordered also & no longer harmonizes with the first one.

I often use my digital camera to take pictures of flat, rectangularobjects, like framed paintings on a wall, book or album covers, orpages of documents. Of course, I can't take these pictures straighton and perfectly level, but that's OK. I know what the dimensions ofthe objects are, so I can just correct the perspective in software.
In Graphic Converter (a Mac OS X app), I just use the "Unskew"function. I simply need to select the four corners of the rectangularobject I photographed. (Guide lines connecting the four points to locate them.) After I've located the four corners, I tell it to"unskew" and a rectangular image is produced.
Does Gimp have any function like this? I found the perspective tool, but that requires me to manually shift the perspective and eyeballwhen I think a rectangular image is produced. That's not nearly as convenient.
I don't know what I did, but when I edit a part in an assembly the others won't fade. Where the setting is to make the other parts fade and only show the part I want to edit.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been tasked to turn our 2D cad dwgs to 3D in inventor.
I'm working on a frame at the moment, I got all the square and rectangular tube from the CC and constrained them to match the CAD dwg, now I need to add the mounting holes but if I add holes to one copy all the copies get the holes.
What option can I use to make each instance stand alone?
I did something and don't know what. When I edit a part in an assembly all other parts remain solid and won't grey out or fade like normal. What setting to I need to change, I've messed with the settings for hours and haven't found the right one.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a multi body part with an extruded cut through all solids. Each solid is derived out to its own part. I edited the extrude feature in the multi body part and removed one solid from the selection set. The cut was correctly deleted from the solid, but when I open the part its still there. The only way to make it update correctly is to manually edit the derive feature in the part. Caught it just before it went off for cutting. 2012 SP2, all hotfixes, win7 64 bit.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAny time I click on "Create 2D sketch" when editing a part in place in an assembly, the view moves to an isometric view. It happens as soon as I click on the button. Is there any way to stop this happening?
This does not happen when I'm editing a part (.ipt) on its own. I'm aware of the "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" issue: this is not the same thing since it happens as soon as I click on the button, i.e. before I actually create the sketch.
I want the view to remain as it was before I click the button, to keep the things I'm looking at in view.
Is there a way to sort of edit not the whole selection but only a part of it, so to select part of a selection and edit it?
For instance I want to make an A-form as a selection and first made the left leg but not want to make the right leg apart from the left and fix them together later. However, if I want to change the size of the right leg PS takes the left leg as well so it changes the whole selection.
I would like to add a "vertici" to the middle of the side of a rectangle solid and pull this up to form a triangle.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm new to AutoCAD, and especially new to AutoCAD Map 3D. I need to make a plat showing a well location. When using Petra or DrillingInfo, a map can be printed to a DXF. DrillingInfo puts out a DXF with just the 0 layer, and the well spots come in as polyline circles. The DXF Petra puts out opens with different layers and symbology, which I like. It's just that the well spots are blocks, which I do not understand. When I open the Petra map with AutoCAD Map 3D, my well spots are unitless block references, and are tiny specks. I need to resize them so they can be seen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to be able to edit a PDF document while the drawing it's referenced in is open?I would have thought that a PDF underlay would have worked in the same manner as an external reference does.
We use crystal reports to create reports from the drawing, export to PDF and insert back into the drawing. Then when items are released for ordering and received the PDF is stamped as such and the underlay reflects that progress in the drawing.
But if a user has the drawing open the PDF is locked for editing.
I have some new multi leader definitions using blocks, however I can only edit the attribute definition text individually, where if I had the same block as a standalone with a leader I could select as many blocks as I wanted and change the text via quick properties in one quick step. Is there a way to achieve this using a block as a base for a multileader?

I want to edit the default arrowhead. I know how to create custom-arrows, etc. but I want the versitility of having arrow heads on many layers, not the zero layer or any other layer that the arrow block-definition is on; and I do not want to use the pointed arrow.
Where may I edit the arrow, or substitute my own; and in what format is it in?
What is the variable I need to change in order for the text I'm editing to stay at the actual orientation and size.Right now it gets bigger and changes to horizontal.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of parts drawings created in LT 98 that I am now editing in LT 14. For the most part I haven't had issues. However, I have been having a big issue with the Text function. It doesn't matter if I am trying to enter new text (Multi or Single line), or if I try to edit the existing text. Either way, the program immediately locks up & will not snap out of it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIn previous versions, grip editing a point from one place to another maintained the point elevation regardless of how the point was moved. For instance, drag it from it's current location and snap to the end of a line. In 2013 the point elevation now changes to match the elevation of the point snapped to.
Is there a new setting to control how points react to Osnaps? Or are we now expected to use the .XY filter (without ever being notified of this change in workflow)?
