AutoCAD Inventor :: View Change When Create 2D Sketch Clicked While Editing Part In Place In IAM
Oct 23, 2013
Any time I click on "Create 2D sketch" when editing a part in place in an assembly, the view moves to an isometric view. It happens as soon as I click on the button. Is there any way to stop this happening?
This does not happen when I'm editing a part (.ipt) on its own. I'm aware of the "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" issue: this is not the same thing since it happens as soon as I click on the button, i.e. before I actually create the sketch.
I want the view to remain as it was before I click the button, to keep the things I'm looking at in view.
I am looking for the best way to place multiple columns in a single part file (as independant parts). I want to do this to accurately represent a steel structure that we purchase with a single part number. The structure is purchased and not modified so I figured a single part file would be better than an assembly file with multiple parts.
I thought the best way would be to extrude a 2D wide flange beam profile. However I would like to just pick the profile from a database (content center?) instead of going through the hassle of sketching each profile manually.
This code works with no errors but does not change the text size. A user can over ride the text size (Font size) so I'm hoping it is possible thru code.
Dim oSketch As Inventor.Sketch Set oSketch = oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition.Sketches("Sketch1") Dim oText As Inventor.TextBox Set oText = oSketch.TextBoxes.AddByRectangle(pnt1, pnt2) oText.Style.FontSize = 0.1
I use the same sketch to create a break out view in one type of drawing. I may be blind, but I can't seem to find a way to save that sketch and reuse it when I want to create a break out view.
If I zoom in on a small detail in a large sketch and then issue the "edit sketch" command Inventor changes the view to where the origin is visible on the screen. Is it possible to disable this?
Seeing that creating axonometric views is possible in a 2D drawing view, how to create and save a customized axonometric view in the 3D modeling environment?
Currently the only options are front, back, top, bottom, left, right, isometric and random...
How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?
I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations. Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.
I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist. I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.
I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way. I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option. I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.
I like to change the dimension of the length from 388mm to 400mm to represent another similar part with another part number. Yet I still need the old part.
What is the easiest way to do so? When I use 'save as" and then change the dimension, I need to recreate the dimensions in the dwg files. Is there a way to avoid creating the dimensions?
I order not to hide components, i want to make a break sketch and remove a piece from a part from an assembly in the isometric view in a drawing. can i do that?
Since day 1 when I place a dimension in sketch mode, it immediately goes to edit so I can type the number in. Suddenly yesterday it stopped editing and I have to click a few more times to type the number in. It's totally messing up my work flow and whatnot. The option in application options is checked as well.
I am trying to copy a part that is in my assembly drawing and then place multiple instances of that part at equally spaced distance between each other. I can copy the part but i don't know how to place the copied part at the distance i want to place it in.
If a place a pipe piece with a length fro example 350mm and I place another pipe piece with a length of 400mm. Is there a way to place the same part with the two (or more) values? I did try the iPart route and to create a multi value in my part parameter for the length equation but in both cases you can only select a length and all the parts in the assembly updates to the new length selection.
This program continues to surprise me, negatively. I did not want to modify any thing, but to import/place a part into assembly and gives me this picture. why is so important to not modify library????
(in Inventor) sometimes I am beset with a problem that I want to edit my sketch but sketch members like line(s),circle(s) are moving to dimensions which I don't want. The sketch is moving. How can I overcome this problem,
I just want to notice the Autodesk guys that when editing a hole feature in an assembly, then the sketch is hidden so that is not possible to pick more centerpoints. I noticed this when working with a sheet metal part, I don't know if its the same with a regular part.
I have a feature that is very similar to a CAM that I need to cut other feature with. The second feature needs to maintain its position way from the CAM feature just as a CAM follower would. The CAM is made up of arcs. If it were made from a spline I would be all set. Is there a way to either convert the arcs to a spline or make a CAM follower type arrangement in a part sketch?
I am trying to make a 3D sketch that is constrained to two different parts in an assembly. I want the sketch to be constrained to each of these parts so that if you move the parts relative to each other the sketch will adapt.
I have tried using work planes and project geometry but when I go to move the part the geometry won't always follow the part. I am using a spline for the 3D sketch so it should be able to adapt when the parts are moved but the problem is constraining it to something that follows the part.
I am using Inventor 2014. I have a sketch on a part that does not show up when I put the part into an assembly. Any way to make the sketch show up in the assembly? It is a 3d sketch that is projected to a surface.
I know about the pink lines, green lines, and black line, but I recieved a part from another person and it had red lines for the sketch, how, what did he do to get those? He doesn't know how he did it.
I have an adaptive part which I created within an assembly. I created work planes in this file, based on features in the assembly, and created a sketch on one of these work planes. I used this sketch for an extrusion. then I wanted to reuse the sketch again for another extrusion - normally one needs to select 'Share sketch' from the right-click menu of the sketch, but this is not available. I have already experienced this (random) behaviour, i.e. the 'Share sketch' option missing from the menu. In those case it was ok to make the sketch visible, and then I could use it again. But now it doesn't work. I made it visible, but when I click Extrusion, Inventor wants me to create a sketch, claiming there is no usable sketch.
When starting a new idw, my first action is placing the base view. I would very much like to start a new 2D and have the "Drawing View" window automatically pop up. I'm not sure how to do this. Would it be part of the idw template, or is there a setting I'm oblivious to?
Every time i made dwg's i have to create all ort. views but i also need place label for each view. Is it possible with rule to pick view and then choose from list which view label it is. For ex. plan, side lt, side rt isometric etc..
