Why, when I edit a sketch in context of another assembly do sketches of other parts suddenly become visible?.

Why is dimension visibility grayed out in the sketch context menu shown in the attached image?

This is causing modelling to slow down as I can not project lines from the sketch that has disappeared.
I sometimes edit parts in assemblies. When I turn sketch visibility on or off it does not stay the way I left it. I should be able to edit a part in part view or assembly and the view setting off or on should be how it was last saved. If I saved an ipt with the vision it should be on in any & all assemblies it lives in but its not. I have noticed the difference in new version 2012 - 2011 was no problem.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have three sketches. Two are 2D sketches and the third is a 3D sketch created by the intersection of two surfaces created from the previous two 2D sketches. The order of the browser is as follows:
Sketch1
Sketch2
Revolution (surface)
Extrusion (surface)
3D Sketch 1
When I go back to edit Sketch 2, Sketch 1 is always showing...regardless of whether or not I turn on/off visibility. The visibility toggle has no effect. Sketch 2 has no projected geometry from Sketch 1.
I added another extrusion profile to my structural shapes library, using the same method as the others a few years ago. It works, but the new extrusion now shows up with its profile sketch, start and end planes, and driven dimension visible. The old stuff doesn't (like I would expect). I have all planes in the published part turned off, not marked for export, etc., just like in the old ones. How do I turn this off? Inventor 2012 SP2.
When I open the extrusion separately, the work features to not display. But, the it's also shown as the "default" color not as material. Why does it default to "default" not "as material" like everything else?
How do I turn sketch visibility on and off using ILogic rules.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm doing a fairly big one-off for use at our factory so am going the multibody ipt route. I have a design view setup within the ipt with nearly all solids switched off but when working within a sketch this seems to be ignored. I want to make sure I am projecting from sketches not bodies so if I need to tweak things later and bodies change the model won't fail.
I.e. the bodies all become visible when working in a sketch where as before going into the sketch the bodies weren't showing.

I've managed to cobble this code together to turn some sketch visibilities on and off. However, what I'd really like to do is have a single sketch containing some blocks, and turn the visibility of the blocks on and off... How to call the blocks -

Since day 1 when I place a dimension in sketch mode, it immediately goes to edit so I can type the number in. Suddenly yesterday it stopped editing and I have to click a few more times to type the number in. It's totally messing up my work flow and whatnot. The option in application options is checked as well.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just want to notice the Autodesk guys that when editing a hole feature in an assembly, then the sketch is hidden so that is not possible to pick more centerpoints. I noticed this when working with a sheet metal part, I don't know if its the same with a regular part.

Any time I click on "Create 2D sketch" when editing a part in place in an assembly, the view moves to an isometric view. It happens as soon as I click on the button. Is there any way to stop this happening?
This does not happen when I'm editing a part (.ipt) on its own. I'm aware of the "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" issue: this is not the same thing since it happens as soon as I click on the button, i.e. before I actually create the sketch.
I want the view to remain as it was before I click the button, to keep the things I'm looking at in view.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to extrude cut an object which passes through another but I wish for the cut to ignore the other geometry and only cut the other. I have attached the model. I do not wish the cut to cut throuh the curved surface and only through the vertical pieces seen. Is there an option to cut and ignore certain solid bodies in the process? This is not an assembly btw.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf you hold down F4 to orbit in 3D (equally press the Orbit button under view on the ribbon) you can temporarily set the orbit pivot position by left clicking the mouse. I have a 3D mouse (3dconnexion spaceball 5000) installed on my workstation so can perform the same view manipulations without technically having to enable the orbit command. But I can't change the pivot position unless I activate the orbit command and then left click - making the main advantage of a 3D mouse for me a bit of a nonsense..
Any command/key combination that allows me to setup a custom button to set the orbit pivot position?
I installed Autocad 2013 a few weeks ago and I have a lot of blocks made with earlier versions (2008, 2012, etc...) that I need to use. When I try to edit such a block, block editor gives me trouble with visibility states. I can't select visibility states, and when I can, the changes made to that state don't follow and often the program reverts back to the first visibility state for no reason. This is getting to be extremely annoying and I'm thinking of going back to 2012 because of this. Is there a patch or some way to correct this?
View 4 Replies View RelatedOne of my users has been complaining that his "right click stops working". I have verified the problem myself, and find it very odd. It seems to be exclusive to his machine, which is a Windows XP 32 bit, I think with 4GB RAM and a decent gaming graphics card running IV 2012.
After he's been working about half of the day he suddenly is unable to right click and bring up his context menu. He then has to save his work and reboot his machine. After this he'll be good again for a few hours.
I asked him if he can bring up his context menu on other applications when IV's stops working. He didn't know but said he would try it the next time he has the problem.
I also asked him if he's using a 3 gig switch.
I'm trying to add to a right click menu for an Inventor addin using C#. I'm basing mine off of a VB sample. However, it appears VB allows the add command to be missing values, whereas C# will not allow any empty values.The 3 commas in a row are where the error occurs. C# error is simple "argument missing".

Not only do I find the Marking Menu extremely annoying, but it's buggy as well. It cuts off the context menu in certain zones of he screen - see attached. If the object I right click on is low enough, it will bump the menu up. The classic context menu works just fine. I find this happening more than not when trying to suppress a part for a LOD.

The model works fine but the shared sketch generates a sketch doctor error because the feature that created it has been suppressed. View 2 Replies View RelatedHow do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?
I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations. Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.
I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist. I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.
I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way. I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option. I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.

First we imported an ".igs" file to inventor, which produced "wires". Then by promoting the wires it produced a 3-d sketch.
The model is in one plane and 2-D, and we are trying to use Ansys 2-D analysis, but in-order to do so it needs to be in a 2-D sketch.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I have an assembly open and I right click on a part, there is about a 4 to 5 second delay until I get the context menu. The second time that I right click on the same part, the menu comes up almost instantly.
Does not matter if it is a "large" or "small" assembly. See the same lag. Here is a link to a short video [URL]
I have tried using different projects files and disabled the "Quick File Open" in app options. Neither made any difference.
Hardware setting set to "Performance". Using nvidia driver 257.21 and running a GTS 250 card. I have the advantage sub pack #2 installed.
I have a patterned extrusion in a part. I need to supress the first occurrence in this pattern but the option to do so in the context menu is not available when right clicking the 1st occurence The remaining occurrences are suppressible. Is this normal behavior when patterning in a part file?
