AutoCAD Inventor :: Setting Pivot Position Whilst Orbiting?

Feb 19, 2010

If you hold down F4 to orbit in 3D (equally press the Orbit button under view on the ribbon) you can temporarily set the orbit pivot position by left clicking the mouse. I have a 3D mouse (3dconnexion spaceball 5000) installed on my workstation so can perform the same view manipulations without technically having to enable the orbit command. But I can't change the pivot position unless I activate the orbit command and then left click - making the main advantage of a 3D mouse for me a bit of a nonsense..

Any command/key combination that allows me to setup a custom button to set the orbit pivot position?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Camera Pivot Changing Position Alone - No Control?

Aug 23, 2013

For some reason, the camera pivot has changed..Whenever I set it to anything, it keeps going back to the stupid configuration of being 5 meters away from my plot... which means the slightest rotation makes me lose the view.

I tried using the navigation the navigation wheel's "center", but it sets it in two dimensions of the projection's plot on my screen, which is not enough.

And I tried the command alias "3DO", but every time I do it, it works only once... and for some reason the camera pivot gets lost again on the next move.

how to change the camera pivot position by entering it somewhere like (0,0,0).

AutoCad :: Setting Position Relative To Another Object?

How do I set the position (i.e. move) and object relative to another object?

Specifically, I am using Architecture 2013. I have two parallel walls. How do I set the distance of one relative to the other? I know I can measure the distance, calculate an offset, and move one by that offset. But there must be an easier way?

3ds Max :: Orbiting Around Local Coordinates?

Sep 5, 2011

I am modelling (low poly) a human head whose z-axis is not vertical. Now the problem is when I orbit it (using alt + middle mouse button), the head doesn't stay upright, and this is really not handy !!

The problem would be solved if I could, either orbit around local coordinates (meaning left-right mouse movements would spin around local z-axis, not world z-axis), or maybe change orbit style (for example blender has another orbiting style where left-right mouse movements spins according to view)

There would be another solution, which would be applying a rotation modifier to the whole scene, and removing when I'm done with the head, but I don't know if this is possible...?

3ds Max :: Viewport Will Constantly Freeze / Pause For 3 Seconds Before Orbiting

Mar 16, 2011

My viewport is currently struggling handling an imported 700k Poly ZBrush sculpt. My tech current specs are -

- 3DS Max 2011 - Updated, with no extra patches.
- i7 2.80GHz
- ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series (Default Settings, DirectX 9 + Redraw Scene on Window Expose on)
- 2x2 Gig RAM
- Windows 7 64 Bit

the viewport will constantly freeze/pause for 3 seconds before orbiting or panning just fine, and when using tools such as relax or soft-selection on a small area of the basic naked human mesh (About 400 verts) the viewport will drop to be about 2 fps.

I don't know whether this is the most appropriate rig in the world, but from my previous experience with slower rigs on 3ds 7-9, 700k wouldn't produce unbearably stuttering viewport renders.

Are there any obvious ways I could improve 3DS's performace?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Force Attribute Position To Remain Fixed In Drawing When Moving Block Position

Jul 12, 2013

Is it possible to setup a block so that an attribute position remaines fixed (absolute to drawing) when moving the block?

I've been playing around with creating a Coordinate Block by following these instructions: [URL] ........

What I would like is to be able to set the position of the Coordinate Label and Coordinate Object independently, so that if I move one in the drawing, it doesn't move the other.  I've looked into Dynamic Blocks, and the "Lock Position" parameter. I can move the attribute independently, but still everytime I move the block, the attribute moves too.

Our company uses a custom Sheet/Coordinate system to follow flyoffs across a drawing, and I'm trying to learn how to automate the process.  It's completely manually right now, so any changes to a drawing creates a lot of work renumbering these flyoffs.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Random Commands Activating Whilst Within A Command

Oct 11, 2012

Having only recently started using Autocad 2012 (I mainly used various versions of LT over the last 10+ years) I have noticed a few strange goings on.

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes whilst in a command ("move" for example), when I go to click on an object or pull a window, a separate, totally random command activates itself. Why this happens, I just hit escape a couple of times & continue what I was doing.

I'm not sure if it is a case of me, in my haste, missing my intended object & hitting the right click button (which I use as a return & not a drop down menu).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Position Of COG In Selected Parts?

Jan 13, 2012

I have now been able to select items in an assembly and get weight and COG details of just the selected items, however I guess the COG will be working from the world datum as the xyz data is very wrong?

how do i set the world datum to a known point on one of the parts in the current view so that I can get the COG to relate to a position within the part that I set the datum to?

basically I have a block of metal with a load of parts on one end that offsets the weight / COG and i need to balance this on some brackets that are equally spaced from the COG, so i need to determine where the COG is of all the selected parts but as a position within the block from a known point.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Position Sketched Symbols

Jul 19, 2012

I have a lot of small parts to generate and I need to put them on A0 sheets. I have created customer borders (4 pane, 6 pane & so on), so that I can place multiple parts on one sheet.

I have several bits of information that is unique to each part, but must be indicated, so I have created sketched symbols that has model properties in. Effectively each pane on the sheet has it's own "mini title block" that displays the information unique to each part.

I also have assemblies, so therefore I need to display the BOM. I find that the BOM for the assembly "snaps" neatly into the corner of each pane, but I don't seem to be able to get the same effect with the sketched symbols. The positioning of the sketched symbols look "tatty" and once it has a leader attached (which I switch to not visible), the sketch symbol seems to snap to some sort of invisible grid.

Ultimately, I will be delivering the drawings in AutoCAD format so it will be possible to zoom up and see these mis-alignments very clearly. That makes things look very unprofessional.

Any way to position the sketched symbols neatly.

AutoCAD Inventor :: SketchBlock Position - Correct Quadrant

Aug 29, 2012

I have a sketchblock in a sketch that I need to postion into the correct quadrant. I have dimensions on the sketchblock that are told to be driven while running the quadrant position task shown below. see image. Sketchblock is currently in quadrant 1 and I need to be able to push that into the 3rd, thus the (-200,-200).

ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.Sketches(1).SketchBlocks.Item(1).Postion.X = -200

ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition.Sketches(1).SketchBlocks.Item(1).Postion.Y = -200

After it is in the correct quadrant I power the dimensions to constraint the sketchblock into correct position.

The question is, how do I position the sketchblock in the correct quadrant via 'position'?

Not working.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Position Representation

Aug 20, 2013

I have an assembly that features tube and pipe, flexible hose to be specific.  If I create a Positional Representation in the assembly file that moves the connecting components to different locations, the tube and pipe assembly updates appropriately, and the hoses find their new routes when that view is active - in the assembly.  Now, when I go to make a drawing of this assembly and bring it in, and I try to create a view of the assembly using this alternate Positional Representation, it will not display the alternate tube routes, only the original.  The components update and move to their new locations and orientations but the hose will not budge / update / adjust, no matter how many times I try rebuilding.

One thing I notice, though, is that if I have the assembly file open, and I switch to the alternate representation in the assembly, the drawing will properly display the alternative tubing routes. Is there any way to get both views on the same sheet?
