If I zoom in on a small detail in a large sketch and then issue the "edit sketch" command Inventor changes the view to where the origin is visible on the screen. Is it possible to disable this?

its annoying to make changes to a sketch and constantly have to re orient the part after finishing a sketch, I dont want the solid model to return to iso view after sketching, is there a setting for this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedAny time I click on "Create 2D sketch" when editing a part in place in an assembly, the view moves to an isometric view. It happens as soon as I click on the button. Is there any way to stop this happening?
This does not happen when I'm editing a part (.ipt) on its own. I'm aware of the "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" issue: this is not the same thing since it happens as soon as I click on the button, i.e. before I actually create the sketch.
I want the view to remain as it was before I click the button, to keep the things I'm looking at in view.

I was initially going to get round this by creating a form and linking it to the text parameter! But for some reason it won't take in the text parameter I created and will only find and take in numerical parameters?

Someone has generated a frame from an unconstrained skeleton (all green lines). I can edit the 3D sketch by double clicking it but the 3D sketch tab doesn't come up. I can drag a vertex but it gives me the error message "drag geometry composite request cannot be run on document"
There doesn't seem to be any way of dimensioning or constraining or otherwise editing this geometry.I have two of these frames to deal with.
In my sketch I want to move a smaller circle that is within a circle along the Z-axis. I've put the image below to avoid confusion. I am using Inventor 2012.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSeen this recently? Using Inventor 2012 SP1 on Windows 7, 64 bit. If we go back into a previously created sketch and edit or add a dimension, upon clicking the green check mark to complete the dimension edit, the sketch exits back to the modelling environment, meaning we have to edit the sketch again to continue with other changes. Obviously no big deal if I'm only editing one dimension, but how often does that happen?
This started happening prior to SP1 being installed. We have this happening on multiple computers (all with the same hardware specs) in our office. I don't believe it to be a hardware or driver issue, but I am wondering if it is a process issue. For example, we use project geometry a lot, even projecting from other parts within an assembly (non-adaptively). We also work on SAT file models, rather than geometry initially created from Inventor itself.

I created an assembly of parts and then converted my assembly to a weldment. I then realized that I need to create a sketch and make an edit to my assembly. The sketch command is greyed out however. I did some trouble shooting and realized that once I converted it, it no longer allows me to make edits. Is there anyway I can get around this? do I now have to re-create the entire assembly to make this edit at the assembly level? If so this would really suck since it is a rather large assembly. I see saving as a new IAM doesn't work as well.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had several sheet metal parts return error messages to edit the sketch coordinate system after the part has been modified. This usually pertains to a dimensioning drawing made to the flat pattern. I have found how to edit the coordinate system, but I don't know what to edit it to. If I select the center point I can drag it from where it sits to an existing corner and select done but that seldom resolves the issue. What is Inventor looking for? I sometimes get a message asking if I want to edit the axis as well but what to do there.
Why can't these sketches orient off the center point that is already in the model? If it would stay put I could dimension to it and be done but it has to twist and turn the model and then put the point on some corner, not usually where I would like it and then I get these errors if I alter the model later.

Tried to do something that all other 3D softwares seem to have no problem with, even inventor at least when we were using the old versions.
Editting sketch - close sketch. No model update.
This is an existing 3D model created with inv2011. inv2013 does not like much of what we created in the old releases of inv.
Sketch gives me 1 dimension. Part and drawing give the old dimension value.
This is yet another major sign of unstable software. Over 24 software issues discovered from changing inv2011 to inv2013.
I need an urgent solution to my issue.I have created section view from a sketch (a line constrained to the projection of a work plane) from my derived part to my drawing using the "Get model sketches ". When i update the iassembly and update the the view using model state the view tries to update but throws an error see attached document.When i delete the section line and create a section line manually ie. by creating a normal sketch in the drawing the same model gets updated without any error.

I just installed the trial version of Inventor pro, 2013. I'm having a problem with the view changing on creation of a sketch. It goes to the home position. The "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" is un-ticked in options.
Click on Component->Create. Once the Component is created, click 2D Sketch. View spins to the Home position. This is really annoying. I learned Inventor 2010 in school. I don't remember this ever happening.
If I select a plane from the browser prior to clicking the Create 2D Sketch, the view remains the same as expected. This is only a problem if you want to create the initial sketch using a face of another part as the sketch plane. Is there an option I'm missing?

I attached a sketch to a view, fully constrained the lines in the sketch to the PG from the lines in the standard view.
Everything looks good but when I click "Finish Sketch" and it leaves the sketch environment the lines from the sketch shift slightly out of alignment.
The dimensions I have to these lines are in the right locations so it looks like they aren't going to the sketch lines. But if I try to "connect" the dimensions to where the lines are actually being show it gives me errors saying there is nothing there to connect to.
I am trying to edit a sketch in a multi body part file. While I am trying to edit, it displays all other solid bodies which is not required. How to switch them off displaying unnecessary solid bodies while editing a sketch?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had a crash on exiting Inventor 2012 (fully up to date, service packs installed etc.) and since that crash I can't open any drawing (.idw) file in Inventor: it appears to hang, with no processor activity etc.
The same files open, view and print fine with Inventor View.
Using Inv 2013 and VB 2010. I am trying to reference a sketch within a drawing view, but I am having a hard time figuring out which view number and sketch number to use. I thought I had it figured out, but apparently I was wrong.
For example, see the 2 attached pics, Drawing A and Drawing B. For Drawing A I had the sketch reference set as

Drawing View 3, as it was the 3rd Drawing View in the list, and Sketch #1 within that Drawing View. I thought this was how it worked, because it worked with my code and it hid the sketch. However, moving on to Drawing B, I used the same code, and it does not reference that sketch at all. It did nothing to it. Even though the Flange_Holes sketch is in the same position. 3rd View down the list, 1st sketch.
So how does Inventor reference these views and sketches? Is it in order of creation? Is there a way to reference it by the what the sketch is named instead of trying to decipher the number it's assigned? I have a lot of drawings already made, and I'm not positive the views were taken and created in the same exact order each time.
i can't find where to tell inventor to not switch back to the home view after finish a sketch edit. sometimes it is handy but often it is nice to see the part update after doing some sketch editing rather then the home view spinning the part away. i think we are capable of hitting F6 ourself if we wanted that view.
i have found that inventor 2011 will always do this when you are looking square onto the sketch and then finish the sketch . am i right to say that this is only a 2011 thing? i cannot recall previously this happened. i am finding that i am always finishing my sketch and having to hit F5 after inventor swings away to home view.
when I try to edit a dimension in my Idw's. I normally can double click on the dimension or right click on it and choose edit, but now the window will not pop up. It freezes the screen like the window is open but no window on the screen, almost like it opens off of the screen where you can not see it, the program has been reinstalled but still have the same problem.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat I would like to do is create a custom dialogue for each of 3 or 4 standard sketch symbols we use on a regular basis. I'd like to load 'suggsted' values out of an excel spreadsheet and allow the user to pick from them or enter in a custom text string if required. The values would then become part of the sketch symbol.
I've spent some time looking into iLogic rules and I think I've determined that they're not flexible enough to do what I want.
If I'm correct, it is possible (or a good idea) to do this using a VBA macro? I'm a little hesitant to go down the full blown add-in route. While I'm pretty confident I could work it out.
We have used Inventor 2010 with PSP 2011.
- Recently we have upgrade to Inventor 2012.
- Installed pspro_cad_fp_10.0.39.3 update for PSP Server and for PSP Clients.
And now, some drawings we can not open in Inventor 2012. Inventor crashes!
But some drawings we are lucky to be able to open and work with.
Drawings have the same template.
If the drawing is locked (read only) then inventor 2012 can open it without a crash.
If I drag&drop drawing out from PSP onto my Desktop, Inventor 2012 can open drawing without problems.
So we are not able to work with some drawings in Inventor 2012 and PSP 2011.
As the first and quick (and 100%) solution - rollback to Inventor 2010 can cost us about 5 man-days of work. (Because we have done some work in Inventor 2012 allready and will not be able to work with this in Inventor 2010)
Sometimes when I'm exiting from a sketch, the entire model goes back to isometric view. Is there a way to STOP this from happening?
