AutoCAD 2013 :: Converting 3D Solids To 3D DGN?
May 10, 2013I've been trying to convert 3D dwg models to 3D dgn models without success, using AutoCAD 2012.
The DGN either displays the solid, which isn't visible in a Microstation extraction or it just exports the centrelines/linework and not the solids.
Is this possible in newer version ? i.e. 2013/2014.
I've tried the export to ACIS .sat file and that works fine, but it moves everything to the same lavel/layer which defeats to object of seperatng the items in the first place.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Curved Lines And Solids
May 2, 2012I'm new to AutoCAD and I'm having trouble in one of my designs. I've attached the photo so you can see it. The problem is, I need the line that currently defines the left edge of my curve to follow the curve of the cylinder. I want it to be flush with the surface so that the line becomes a twist.

Jun 19, 2012In previous autocad version that supported Lofting, i was always able to create a solid loft.
With 2013 the loft command seems to divide its abilities depending on what type of profiles are selected.
When selecting a closed polyline profile, loft produces a solid. Works fine.
When selecting a region or solid face loft produces only a surface.
The work i am trying to do at the moment involves irregular sections and/created from existing solids.
I could trace the profile and make a polyline, but each profile contains an ellipse, and you cant trace an ellipse.
Where i used to be able to select the ends of the existing solids and create a solid loft,
I now have to produce a section twice (gives you a region), loft the regions, convert the regions to surfaces (because the produced surface doesn't have and faces), union the surface and then convert to solids
Instead of 1 command there are now 6.
I tried turning of the assiciativity (surfaceassociativity 0) hoping that it had some sort of influence but to no avail.
There was no issue with 2010 and 2012 and i have just installed all 2013 products.
I have a lot of work to do and have to produce 3dsolids.

I have received a model in which the solids all appear "rendered" in model space. For example, if I extrude a circle or a rectangle, it immediately appears rendered. I am used to (and require) the solids as wire frames. Is there some setting that makes solids in this drawing appear rendered while mine (in a new drawing) appear as wire frames?
AutoCAD 2013 :: Momentary Freeze When Selecting Solids
Aug 16, 2012The problem is when I select a solid, autocad freezes for about a minute. After that minute, I can execute a command. During that minute of inactivity, I can use anyother program or part of windows normally with no apparent degradation. If I click in an autocad window, toolbar,etc, all the open autocad windows cloud over and the cursor turns to a spinning cursor. Outside of an autocad window the cursor is normal. This is how it works in the noun/verb process, grip editing. However, if a command is issued first, then the selection of solids is instantaneous. The solid(s) are appropriately highlighted and everything proceeds normally in the verb noun approach.
I have played with a variety of suggested performance settings in windows and in autocad. I have updated the graphics drivers so I always have the latest version. I have a quadro fx 3700, 16gb ram, and 2.5 tb of disc space.

Nov 12, 2012I have noticed that some pdf files seem to be 3D solids and I have also seem to recall having had the experience of running one through Adobe Illustrator and then exporting it as a dxf file, opening it in AutoCAD and having it still be at least a 3D wireframe if not a solid.

The printed A1 page reflects the 'Print Preview' image.Objects are 3D solids, with clipped images positioned on the front of them.It was quicker that way, rather than ripping my hair out after trying to tile in a program without any UVW modifiers.It's like the printed viewport reverts to parallel projection, while I want it to be in perspective projection instead.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: 2013 - Editing DXF Maps
Nov 26, 2013I'm new to AutoCAD, and especially new to AutoCAD Map 3D. I need to make a plat showing a well location. When using Petra or DrillingInfo, a map can be printed to a DXF. DrillingInfo puts out a DXF with just the 0 layer, and the well spots come in as polyline circles. The DXF Petra puts out opens with different layers and symbology, which I like. It's just that the well spots are blocks, which I do not understand. When I open the Petra map with AutoCAD Map 3D, my well spots are unitless block references, and are tiny specks. I need to resize them so they can be seen.

Dec 12, 2013Is there anyway to be able to edit a PDF document while the drawing it's referenced in is open?I would have thought that a PDF underlay would have worked in the same manner as an external reference does.
We use crystal reports to create reports from the drawing, export to PDF and insert back into the drawing.Then when items are released for ordering and received the PDF is stamped as such and the underlay reflects that progress in the drawing.
But if a user has the drawing open the PDF is locked for editing.

May 2, 2013I have some new multi leader definitions using blocks, however I can only edit the attribute definition text individually, where if I had the same block as a standalone with a leader I could select as many blocks as I wanted and change the text via quick properties in one quick step. Is there a way to achieve this using a block as a base for a multileader?

Oct 4, 2013I want to edit the default arrowhead. I know how to create custom-arrows, etc. but I want the versitility of having arrow heads on many layers, not the zero layer or any other layer that the arrow block-definition is on; and I do not want to use the pointed arrow.

Dec 19, 2013I have a bunch of parts drawings created in LT 98 that I am now editing in LT 14. For the most part I haven't had issues. However, I have been having a big issue with the Text function. It doesn't matter if I am trying to enter new text (Multi or Single line), or if I try to edit the existing text. Either way, the program immediately locks up & will not snap out of it.

For instance, drag it from it's current location and snap to the end of a line. In 2013 the point elevation now changes to match the elevation of the point snapped to.
Is there a new setting to control how points react to Osnaps? Or are we now expected to use the .XY filter (without ever being notified of this change in workflow)?

May 20, 2013I am trying to use the Faces Editing drop-down box, and in my book it lists the options as Taper Faces, Move Faces, Copy Faces, Offset Faces, Delete Faces, Rotate Faces, Color Faces.
All it shows are Taper, Extrude and Offset.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Array Editing To Fill Shape
May 20, 2012I was trying to figure out how to edit an array to either remove all the array objects outside of a shape or to fill in a shape with objects.
For example, I created a rectangular array of dots and want to remove the dots such that it makes a circle (or triangle if that's possible?). There are reasons that I can't use the polar array to make the circle because I need certain parameters that really I can't replicate. Also, selecting each point is too tedious and really not efficient (though it could be done eventually, but I don't want to waste a ton of time).

May 3, 2013Editing attributed blocks causes them to disappear from the screen. Edits include changing attribute values, moving attributes, or moving the entire block. The block is not gone, so saving and re-opening the drawing will display it again, but this is a terrible workaround when moving and editing many blocks in a large drawing.
We do not use annotative or dynamic blocks, so these are just good old-fashioned attributed blocks.This behaviour is being seen on both Windows 7 and older Windows XP systems with various hardware specs, and it is only in the 2013 product. We still have some stations running Map 2012 that do not experience this issue even when working in the same drawings.

I selected this parcel => Properties tab =>Information =>Style:Create/Edit=>Parcel Styleroperty=>Design=>Parcel name template=> Name Template/ Name: <[Parcel Style Name (CP)]>:<[Parcel Number]> was changed to SHC Lot: <[Parcel Number]> to get the new parcel name "SHC Lot : 1" on the DWG successfully - see the second attached file.
I tried to add some chemical results (23.5 mg/kg Arsenic; 66.7 mg/kg Lead; 88.9 mg/kg Mercury) into the parcel. So I selected this parcel => Properties tab => Information => Parcel Area Label Style: Create/Edit =>Parcel Name: => Layout / Label Style Composer/Component name: Parcel Name =>Text: Contents <[Name(CP)]>
I clicked on the "Arrow" sign to bring the <[Description]> into the right-hand-side of Text Component Editor - Contents. I don't know how to finish this step and how to close the "Properties of Parcel" tab on the left-hand-side of the DWG (The selection of Parcel is still on). How to finish the last step and how to close the "Properties of Parcel" tab.
AutoCAD 2013 :: Double Click Editing Does Not Work On Inserts Or Their Attributes
Oct 10, 2013We are starting to install AutoCAD 2014 on our machines. On one of our machines, the user can't get double click editing to work on inserts. I can open the drawing on my machine and it works fine. She is using the same profile and workspace and both machines have SP1 installed. Double click editing works for other objects (MLeaders, Text...) but not for inserts or their attributes. The only way she can edit the attribute text is through the property window.

May 28, 2012I installed Autocad 2013 a few weeks ago and I have a lot of blocks made with earlier versions (2008, 2012, etc...) that I need to use. When I try to edit such a block, block editor gives me trouble with visibility states. I can't select visibility states, and when I can, the changes made to that state don't follow and often the program reverts back to the first visibility state for no reason. This is getting to be extremely annoying and I'm thinking of going back to 2012 because of this. Is there a patch or some way to correct this?
