AutoCAD 2013 :: Create Viewport Of Solid In Layout And Dimension Inside And Outside Diameters
Aug 8, 2012
Having trouble with diameter and radial dimensions since upgrading to 2013.
For example, draw two concentric circles and Presspull (or Extrude and Subtract) so that you get a hollow cylinder. Then create a viewport of this solid in a layout, and try to dimension the inside and outside diameters.
One of the two dimensions will work properly (seems to vary which one). The other will magically "jump" when placed (ex. the OD dimension will jump and become the ID, or vice versa).
How to resolve this? Our guys are having to do absurd things like redrawing the circle in paper space and dimensioning to it with a scale factor. Is this some sort of 2013 bug, or a setting?

Trying to dimension a shaft in isometric view with various diameters. I am unable to find or select the centerpoints at the ends of the shaft. This causes dimensions to be crooked. How can i get the centerpoints to display so that they may be selected?

I'm trying to create a new layout and then adding text and a view port. The add text works but the add view port method, written in AutoCad's Developer Guide, doesn't!

I'm finding a problem with solid fill, drawn in model space its fine, but viewed through a viewport and all I see is the outline of it in wireframe.
I'm not having this problem on other drawings, it's limited to this file, but a colleague has also had as well it so not my workstation. This narrows it down to this specific drawing being the problem.
As regards variables, FILL = 1, FILLMODE=1.
It is just solid objects with the problem, polylines with a width display OK as does fill text.

There is a default viewport in Layout1. How can I reposition and resize it on the paper? It would also be sufficient if I could delete it--how do I do that? (then I could create one that fit my needs)
Briefly, what are disadvantages of not using Model view?

I can't seem to change a viewport in layout view to show my drawing properly. No matter what I do the page only shows a very zoomed in view or a very zoomed out view. I have tried all menu options witht he word scale in, including the scale list. I have looked in the properties inspector.

When some off our users move the dimensions in paperspace or the drawing in modelspace,
only some off the dimensions would see the viewports scale factor, and multiply itself by that, from my knowledge this happens when you uses the power dimensioning in Mechanical, and the the annotative tick box is selected, but for some reason one particular user he uses normal annotations when dimensioning, where there is no annotative functionally but the dimension still behave as mentioned.

How can I remove the lines in the middle after I press and pull the objects.
Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. And also how can make the aquarium Untitle 3.jpg transparent?

“annotation scale” on the lay out mode,
I’m not sure about the current “annotation scale” in case of lay out mode.
Annotation scale option is displayed only in the model and viewport mode but not in the lay out mode (attached)!
Based on what annotative objects living on the lay out but neither in the model (or viewport) are re-sized? At this mode, there is no option to choose the annotation scale?
On other words, how to choose the annotation scale in the lay out mode?

I have this strange situation.. i use the Arial font inside my cad drawings and when i print my paperspace layout, the text inside the viewport is a little bit more "bold" then the text i put directly on paper space.
Maybe it's a trick to know what text is placed where, but i want all this to be uniform, same thickness. Is there a system variable to correct that issue?
See the image below: It's a 400 DPI scan from an impression i did.
Up to COUPE C1 is the text inside the viewport, under COUPE C1is the paperspace text. Both are the same height... but difference tickness.

If you can create a solid by lofting between two section, in this case they are 3d polylines, along a given path. The path is at the top of the sections. Using the loft command I have to key in the PO ( point ) option several times to get the path option to show then when I select the path it gets treated as another section. See attached.

I am curious how the default workspace “3D Modeling” is able to combine ribbon panels from both the acad.cuix file and the modeldoc.cuix file in one tab. See attached screen shot to see where I highlighted the differences between the tab in the workspace and the tab in the acad.cuix file. I am trying to recreate this in my workspace without having two separate layout tabs.

I have finally created the shell of the complex surface that you see. This is only a section of the part because I cannot show the whole thing for proprietary reasons. I formed solid surfaces using the network command. The propblem is that it will not convert to a solid because the surface seams are not "water tight." When the network command created the solid surfaces, the surface seams do not exactly match the lines so there are gaps in all the seams. I have tried blending, patching, etc. and nothing works. how to convert this to a solid without losing the outlines and the shape?

The standard in the industry I work in is the radius dimension goes on the inside of the arc. However, AutoCAD defaults the dimension to the outside of the arc. Is there a way to make it default to the inside? If not then this is the issue when I use the mirror command.

I do a lot of CNC milling of molds for foundries. Lately I get a lot of models that need cores and they are made without regard to the inside dimensions. Usually I explode them and break them down as far as I can then delete all but the inside surface then reloft the geometry as a solid. More and more models are coming with very intricate cores.
Any easier method of creating the solid core. Attached is a simple model of a simple part. How would the inside hollow area be created as a solid?

i am having a hatching issue, it seems no matter what hatch pattern i use and what hatch scale, alot of the hatch looks solid instead of the pattern i want, for example i am using currently ANSI37 @ Annotative with a scale of .20 and on the same paperspace page one plan with the hatch shows the cross hatching and the other one below looks solid (see attached) now i can go and say change the hatch scale and it reverts to the cross hatching, but then when i zoom out it goes back to "solid" is it a graphical issue?

Is there a way to override a dimension and have it shown as a GD&T Basic dimension. I can override a dimension with the text option but not with a box around the letter. It sounds strange to do this but the letter represents a dimension in a chart format that are Basic dimensions.

Using Autocad MEP 2013. I discovered a potentially powerful way to model today by utilizing a large paperspace template with multiple viewports. Rather than creating and editing my model in model space, where managing multiple layers and views becomes very cumbersome (plus, model space gets kind of messy with section views and ordinate dimensions and such), this allows me to keep all of my layers "on" in model space, but to customize each VP with the specific layers I want to see while editing. I LOVE the layer isolation feature, which unclutters the model even more for editing and I just figured out how to configure it for VP isolation only. In conjunction with the newly discovered (I'm a little slow) "maximize viewport" tool, it is just like I am working in model space (right down to the black background, which I prefer). I was ecstatic to unleash the power of editing 3D entities by isolating them in a VP. However, there appears to be a glitch of some kind. I cannot face edit my solids. At first, it thought the entity was on a locked layer, which it wasn't (I could move the solid, just not edit a face), so I unlocked ALL layers. Then it gave me this message when attempting to edit: "No loop through new edges and vertices", which I have no idea what it means. But most of the time it simply won't select the solid for editing. It doesn't matter if I maximize the VP or not. When I go into model space from the MODEL tab and isolate the layer of the object I want to edit, it works just fine.
