Nov 2, 2012I new to AutoCAD and I need to make a beveled egde on a cylinder. How would I go about doing that?

View 6 RepliesI am trying to oTrack distance from the top circle edge of a cylinder to a certain distance ... whenever i try to do that ... it either track to x and y .. but not in z :/ ... the video i have on you tube he did it so simply and it seems to be easy .
I am not sure what is wrong .. but i heard parallel and perspective view could make a difference .. i actually try both :/ ...

I'm trying to project an edge of a cylinder in a "detail" view. Here's the process I'm taking. Click the view and pick "create sketch", then I pick "Project Geometry". Then I pick the edges of the cylinder I'd like to project and it only projects one side. I can select the edge, but when I right-click and pick done it won't project it. It appears to me that it's only allowing one edge of the same object to be projected. I've tested other objects and it seems to only do this with cylinders.
Is this a setting or a bug in 2012?
Is there a way to bevel a edge like in the first screenshot with more than one segment without getting those marked n-gon faces shown in the second screenshot. i've been playing around with all the settings of the bevel tool but i always get those faces that i dont need and have to delete manually.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhy does the color look strange, is it only because it's green? I have it set to custom color>green because no color/black was only grey. This is still desaturated & very grey. Playing with the settings didn't seem to work.
What's with the pixelated edging? It's an inner bevel & appears on the rounded parts.
When I extrude/bevel a perfect circle (Illustrator CS6 Mac), there is a defect visible on the edge of the circle. Please see 4 images attached. Is this normal, and is there a fix or workaround?

When I attempt to dimension a circle, I get the following error message:

A few days back, I got this error message, and when I came in the next morning, I was able to dimension the circle.

I have the outline of a solid body guitar that I drew with spline, extruded and now trying put a 1/2" fillet radius along the edges, top and bottom.
Using the 3d fillet command produces an error, and extruding a profile along the edge path doesn't work either.
Attached is the spline outline, the red part is what needs the fillet, but the white part does not. However, they can't be extruded into a 3d solid unless their joined!
I've been practicing my autocad and I'm having a problem comprehending the Edge option in the Extend command. I have tried using both options i.e. "extend" and "no extend" and I don't see any difference. What is the purpose of the edge command and it's two options?

My question is how do you draw bevel gears on the face of the scroll plate and the cylindrical face of the other 3 gears?
I have the attached drawing of spiral bevel gears; MBSG2-2040L.dwg
it has been taken from this site [URL]
how do I transform it into a 3d structure from that 2d drawing? is all the needed information comprised in it? I can not figure out the shape of the teeth. There is also a 3d version of the gears for autodesk inventor; is there a way I could transform that into an autocad 2011 compatible version (I don't know much about autodesk inventor ).
Is it possible, using Design Accelerator to have Bevel Gears with straight teeth? I've tried every combo I can think of, and they are always curved teeth. Gears are not my most knowledgeable subject. I usually have the engineers produce the specs, & I get to draw them - they are not happy with the pictorial results.

I have an issue with the student version of Maya 2013. This issue is reproducible in my environment when I try to align an edge to a snap point pressing the V key and move the edge with the move tool. May 2013 hang then and I have to close it ending the task in the task manager. Many times I deleted the Maya folder in my documents folder in order to start from the scratch, but it hangs again if I try the procedure i described above. Some times it take more time until Maya hang, some times after a few moves.I have installed Maya 2013 many times from the scratch, deleting before all the directories in the different locations (as described in an Autodesk paper).I have to run Maya 2013 while I need to export my files with an exporter which just work in the 32bit version of Maya.

When I try to use the Insert Edge Loop Tool, it seems to only select an existing edge loop, and will not allow me to slide along an edge to place the new one. I have even tried to use the Insert Edge Loop Tool on a simple polygon cube, to make sure this isn't a complex mesh issue.
I'm trying to run a simulation of 2 bevel gears without using the transitional/rotation constraint, but using the contact between the surfaces to simulate the rotation of the gears - basically I have an L-shaped shaft running through both centers and want to have the upper gear grounded, make the lateral gear rotate around its own axis - the goal is simply to see the contact between the gears make the side gear rotate around the vertical part of the l-shaped shaft, due to the contact forces.

Now I need to extrude each member into a cylinder. Well Im not really that smart yet, having some hard time with choosing path and region.
