AutoCAD Inventor :: Tangent Constraint Of Edge Of A Cylinder To Revolved Side Of Another

Apr 2, 2012

Is it possible to apply a tangent constraint to an edge of a cylinder at an angle to the revolved side of another cylinder? I wan't to avoid applying a specific angle constraint if at all possible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tangent Assembly Constraint - Ellipse Surface To Line

Aug 26, 2013

Why can't Inventor constrain an ellipsoidal contour with a line? We have pressure cylinders which uses a 2:1 ellipse. These cylinder get welded to a base stand fixture. The surface of the ellipse nestles in between contact points of the base stand, in this case lines of geometry. Yet Inventor can't constrain them as such. Any good workflow (at the assembly level) so that we don't have to ground components and use the Analyze Interference tool to make sure we are right on the surfaces? I don't understand why it will work for a cylindrical surface but not an elliptical surface.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Trim To A Tangent Edge?

Apr 2, 2013

I am having trouble with a part that I am working on.  Trying to trim to the tangent edge.  I cant post the part that I am actually using, but here is an example of a similar problem.  In the attached file, open the "Negative Part.ipt".  The sketch 2 contains a line (unconstrained).  I need this line to be tangent with the curve below it.

I can project the edge of the curve to my sketch plane, but not the tangent of the radius.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Edge Of Cylinder Not Projecting Using Project Geometry

Mar 27, 2012

I'm trying to project an edge of a cylinder in a "detail" view. Here's the process I'm taking. Click the view and pick "create sketch", then I pick "Project Geometry". Then I pick the edges of the cylinder I'd like to project and it only projects one side. I can select the edge, but when I right-click and pick done it won't project it. It appears to me that it's only allowing one edge of the same object to be projected. I've tested other objects and it seems to only do this with cylinders.

Is this a setting or a bug in 2012?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Angle Constraint / Drive Constraint

Jul 30, 2012

I am designing a vertical axis wind turbine just for some practice (just started using Inventor) and everything was going smoothly until I tried to "animate" it spinning.  First, I set up a work plane that goes through the center of the structure, and then I clicked angle constraint "explicit reference vector." After watching several youtube videos, I figured that I should click on the work plane, click on another reference point, and then click another point that would be orthogonal to those two (right?). Well after I choose the first point, Inventor will only allow me to choose the center axis  as the second option (which I think should be the third option).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Removing / Rebuilding Revolved Fillet From Model

Aug 10, 2012

I have a model that has been made up from a revolved sketch and then had loads of bits done to it etc..  Basically it is a tapered ring with a fillet on the top edge, I need a top face dxf export for profiling and to do this I need to remove the radius on the edge, but because it is a revolved sketch and it is not filleted it is not so easy to do with other references involved.

Is there a way I can temporally rebuild the edge to remove the fillet, I tried in fusion but it won't allow a Zero fillet edge?

I can't upload the sketch to show you unfortunately.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Weldment Assembly - Constraining On Revolved Part

Jan 24, 2013

I'm really struggling with constraining a weldment assembly. I've attached a JPG of the Assembly but I cant get the constrains to go where I want them.

Basically this assembly is a wheel with three equally spaced stays welded to a large nut hub. I have constrained the center axis of the wheel to the center axis of the Nut so the wheel and nut will remain aligned.

What I'm struggling with is constraining the three stays to the wheel and to the nut equally spaced around the nut.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2 Sheet Metal Parts - Joining Revolved Surface?

Jun 18, 2013

I have 2 sheet metal parts, both have been revolved using an angle of 359.9deg so there is a small gap to weld. in the assembly I copied one as a surface onto the other part and  I want to scuplt it at the intersection of the two.

The problem I've come to is that the small gap in the surface is preventing me from deleteing the upper part of the cut, how can I make the surface a whole so there is no gap in the cut?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Workflow To Emboss / Cut Repeating Decorative Pattern Into Revolved Solid?

Aug 2, 2013

I'm playing around with a part that I'd like to "decorate" with embossed features or perhaps even cut-outs.  The actual part, before adornments, looks like a funnel.  As sketched now, I'm revolving a spline and then creating a thickened solid feature.  I suppose that the variable diameter and varying cross sectional radius of my part increases the level of complexity of this task over a part that looks more like a regular cylinder.  I'm hoping to learn a tecnique that will work for revolved parts with highly irregular profiles - not just plain ole cylinders.

So, what I'd like to do is emboss (negative or positive) and/or thru-cut decorative geometric or vine/flower inspired patterns into the outside face of a funnel-like part. (Pic attached.)  I'm picturing some sort of pattern that might repeat around the part.  (The variable diameter probably really complicates matters here.)  I haven't put much effort/experimentation into this yet - pretty much because I'm a loss about where to even start.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tangent Edges In Drawing

Oct 8, 2013

Looking at a side profile of a channel in a drawing, you will usually see a top and bottom edge, as well as some nominal flange thickness.

In Inventor, all you see is the top and bottom edge...because the channel's shape is really radiused on the flange.

So I turn on "Tangent Edges" in the Display Options of my view...now I see three lines representing the flange. I can manually hide the other lines, but this option creates a TON of lines in my views that I would have to manually hide.

What is the quickest and cleanest way to represent a channel without seeing a ton of extra tangent lines?

see enclosed rough sketch, i would like the curved free end or the arm to be in constant contaced with the wavey top line on the other part, the wavey line is constructed as 3 curves but i can only get the tangent constrain to apply to one of the curves.

i would like the tangent constraignt to move between the curves so the part stays in constant contact with the wavey line. this is just a mess about sketch i suppose a real world instance will be a wheel following a shaped cam plate.

Basically I am trying to cut a circle into the curved right side of the part

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tangent Lines Display Options

Dec 4, 2013

I used Solid Edge for my entire professional career. One thing that is driving me batty is how, when necessary in a view for clarity, tangent lines are displayed and how to change them, or at the very least, come up with a work around to display them how is needed. In general, tangent lines are first, supposed to be of thinner lineweight, but also, are not supposed to extend all the way across the surface of a part, they are to leave a small gap.

I have found and tried the option of displaying tangent lines, and also have checked the for shorten option. The issue is, in many of the parts the gap produced in HUGE. So I've spent a few hours tinkering, and I finally decided to try and define a new linetype using autocad express tools. So I tried this, but to my dismay I haven't been able to set up a linetype that only has a gap at the end. See attached jpeg for illustration.
