My autocad 2012 installation runs slower when I have the network cable plugged in. This is very obvious when I run lisp commands.
I have a standalone installation with a drawing on a local drive, also SP1 is installed.
I'm using windows XP with Photoshop CS.
Whenever the network cable is connected to the computer, Photoshop start-up load time is significantly longer than when I pull the network cable out.
When running VS 2010 express in debug mode, for either AutoCAD 2010 or 2012, 64 bit, AutoCAD gets slower and slower loading with each subsequent debug session until it becomes intolerable. A system restart is necessary. Is this normal? I see this on a fast machine with tons of ram. During the waits there are patches of white screen in the various AutoCAD interface components. The performance hit is exponential with each session. The first debug is normal, The second is slightly slower. The third is noticeably slower and so on.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am working on a assembly where a cable wrapped around a drum is animated to rotate with the drum, and there is a longer cable coming off of the rotating cable wrap, this longer piece goes down to another cable on a roller assembly. I have edited the assembly to work without the actual cable drum and without the roller assembly ( I wasnt allowed to share those models ) There are now two cylinders in place of the cable drum, a Grounded center to hold everything in place, a Rotating center which is animated so the wrap can rotate.
My problem is when the part named "Drum to Roller" is a lofted cable with angled ends to meet the "Drum wire wrap" at one end and it meets the "Radius cable ends" at the other end. I need the "Drum to roller" to stay constrained to the "radius cable ends" as well as the "drum wire wrap" ... and after being constrained still animate.
I have set up the animation and you will see that the "Drum wire wrap" is animated to keep the end vertical , the animation is set up to look like the "drum wire wrap' is un-raveling cable and the "drum to roller" is to be what un ravels.
I need to find a way so that the "drum to roller" translates down and over , staying constrained to the "drum wire wrap".. You will see that so far it does not.

I am attempting to draw a cable tray layout in Autocad 2010. I am very much new to Autocad.
Basically, i want to draw a cable tray on pedestals which are arranged in a rectangular area. Now, I can draw bends so that the tray stay on pedestals but my question is how to draw the tray that is equidistant from both the corners of the pedestal? There are 6 pedestals arranged in a rectangular manner. All the pedestals are of equal length and width.
How to convert standalone installation of AutoCAD 2010 to network one without uninstalling the existing standlone version.

When I select a command such as the wall or door command. The command starts then exits out before I can draw anything.
It seems that the 'combine zoom and pan commands' option doesn't work correctly. Let's say it doesn't react as i am used to in previous version. now i have to do the undo command or 'ctrl z' many times before i am back at the point where i want to go. I using the middle mouse button often to zoom in and out, and for panning. but now there are a lot of steps to undo if you want to go back.
I tried to switch of and on this option in the options dialog but no difference.
An older gentleman at our company is very much used to having F12 as endpoint, F11 as intersection and F10 as dist. Now that I've upgraded him to 2011, his life is pretty much ruined.
No matter what I try, I can't get the temporary override buttons to work. F10 always does POLAR, F11 always does OTRACK and F12 always does DYN.
How can I kill AutoCAD's default behavior and implement what he wants done?

For example, the “isolate” tool works fine with window selection! In principle, I have no idea about the philosophy beyond which some commands are banned from “window selection!No BUILT-IN icon to Lock All or Unlock All (sure, we can customize it but I’m talking about having this command as built-in)The AutoCAD doesn’t give an alert if a command is applied in the location where particular layers are looked. For example, in many cases, we get into trouble as we move particular objects to discover later that some of the objects were locked! I'm a mechanical engineer with a lot of experience working with SolidWorks, but no experience with AutoCAD. My boss has asked me to take a 44MB .DWG and compress it to under 15MB so that it can be viewed on his iPad to show to clients (using the AutoCAD WS which is limited to opening files smaller than 15MB). I spent hours doing this several weeks ago and was just barely able to get it down to the required size. However, I was never able to repeat the process and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure how I did it. Now I have to do it again for a different file and am struggling to do so.
Since the file is just going to be quickly shown to clients it does not need to have all 400 layers or any other kind of accompanying details. Hell I could merge all the layers together if that would reduce the file size and I knew how to do that. I'm not at my work computer right now, but I think by clicking options under save and removing all proxy images (or something like that) I was able to reduce the file size to around17MB. I've purged the file as well but that only removed a few KB.
I recently downloaded in my new computer the version of autocad 2011, but when I type letters for the command list to show, it doesnt!

I was used to...just cancel all previous commands by ESC key and start typing the command.But since last week I had to click in the command line to write the command in it. How to type commands without annoying clicking in command line?
Just got AutoCad 2012. Commands like Mirror and Copy which involve duplication (no problem with Move or Rotate, for example) will cause AutoCad to not respond for a few minutes. I believe it only is an issue with files brought forward from AutoCad 2000.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI created a command that I no longer use. I actually made a spelling error upon creating it "SUPECLOSE" and I want to delete it.
This is how I created this command: I typed in ALIASEDIT in order to add a new alias to a command.
I then clicked on the "Add" button.
In the "Alias:" field, I typed in "xx"
And in the "AutoCAD Command:" field, I typed in "SUPECLOSE" - which isn't actually an autoCAD command. "SUPERCLOSE" is the command I use to run a custom LISP routine that I created. Upon hitting pressing "OK" to this, AutoCAD prompted me with: "'SUPECLOSE' is a new command, Do you want to add this to your list of commands?"
I said yes. And then shortly afterwards realized the spelling error I had made. Problem is...I don't know how to access this list and delete the new command that I had just created (which does nothing).
We are working in AutoCAD 2010 and the keyboard shortcut commands are not working for one of our users. we are having difficulty getting it back online for her. we tried a menu load for the acad.pgp file and it isn't working .

AutoCAD Commands, variables, LISP commands, LISP variables?
The problem is that AutoCAD 2010, does not recognize any object snap commands, all the other comands work just fine.
I have reinstalled the program and don´t work.
What could be?
We've upgraded to 2012 and have noticed a problem when fast clicking on the mouse when using commands.
For example when using the erase command I would usually type E and then quickly right click and left click. However in 2012 it brings up random command instead of erase i.e. sheetset, publish, ucs etc..Bringing up the text window afterwards it shows

ERASE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: *Cancel*

Select objects: *Cancel*
Command: _PointCloudIndex
The right click and left click are only processed once.This happens on all commands typed on the command line not just erase
When i'm using the modify commands, the objects that I'm modifying become choppy, and when I zoom in and out with the third button/wheel, the movement of the zoom isn't fluid like it normally is, also It is extremely hard to grab an osnap during this process.

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes whilst in a command ("move" for example), when I go to click on an object or pull a window, a separate, totally random command activates itself. Why this happens, I just hit escape a couple of times & continue what I was doing.
I'm not sure if it is a case of me, in my haste, missing my intended object & hitting the right click button (which I use as a return & not a drop down menu).
How do I turn on the dialog boxes when I enter commands? I finally found HPDLGMODE for the hatch command, but I would like it for all commands, especially array.
I have my FILEDIA set to 1.
Using ACAD2013, any command I try to execute requires two clicks. This specifically occurs with transformational commands - i.e. offset, rotate, mirror, but not line. For example I will enter the "OFFSET" command and hit enter, however instead of prompting me to input my OFFSET variables I will have to hit enter again and then enter the requisite variables. In effect I have to hit enter twice to execute any command of this sort. I have already tried changing my PICKFIRST settings, and AUTOCOMPLETE. I'm at a loss.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are a small company with two PCs - 1 laptop and a server. We are having problems using xref drawings across the network. The laptop is mapped to the Z drive and the reference file is on the server (D drive). Each time we open a drawing on the laptop (Z drive) the xref files which is saved on the server (D drive) cannot be seen. We reattached the file and it works fine until we closed and reopen the drawing. When the drawing is opened on the laptop the xref is not loaded on the screen. However, the file extension can be seen but no drawing is visible.
In summary how can we tell get the laptop to permanently reference xref files saved on the server without them dropping out?
I want to display the network server name automatically (preferably using a diesel expression).
I currently use diesel expressions to show the saved path and drawing name, but since we have a multitude of servers I'd like to show the server name as well. At the minute it just shows the network map name, i.e. N:, but I'd like to prefix that with the actual serve name, i.e. SERV-FILE-1 (or something like that).
