AutoCAD 2010 :: Default Lineweight Changes

Jun 12, 2012

Using AutoCAD 2011 we always use 0.00 as our default line weight but the default will change to 0.010 with no real pattern. It can be any drawing at any time. We have reset this dozens of times without being able to stop it from reoccurring.

We are also not able to get line weight to display (yes we check the Lineweight Settings, Display lineweight box) again on random drawings at random times.

Photoshop :: Printing From CS5 - Manage Colors

Feb 5, 2013

I only do photo quality prints to Epson matte  a few times a year so I run test prints with various settings to get what I want. My granddaughters wanted some prints from a web site framed and my wife wanted  prints of an emailed photo of their old mountain cabin. I had to do some color manipulation of the cabin, but the web site images had been expertly processed and all I had to do was print properly.

I experimented with the cabin image print settings. Epson changed the names of all their papers, so the Epson print profiles in the print dialog didn't match the name on the matte paper box. I deciphered that, but I wasn't happy with the result so I tried two of the other Epson profiles and hated it. There's quite a long list of profiles available, some specific, and some just conventional color spaces like sRGB, aRGB. For the heck of it I tried Pro Photo RGB as a printer to paper profile. The print of the cabinimage with an embedded aRGB profile was everything I could want. I did the web site sRGB images the samwe way and they were really nice.

The puzzle is this: What does using Pro Photo RGB as an instruction to the printer cocerning what it is printing to thru Photoshop even mean? The printer has never heard of the colors possible in Pro Photo, and the source image is in sRGB ( verified by Photoshop). I can conceive that an RAW image should be rendered as aRGB for inkjet and that the inkjet has some blues that are outside the aRGB, but I can't understand telling an inkjet to use Pro Photo to print sRGB.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Set Lineweight To Be Color-based Automatically?

Mar 15, 2012

Is there a way to set the “lineweight” to be Color-based automatically?

I’m wondering if there is a way to set the lineweight to be color-based such that all the objects have the same color will take the same lineweight automatically.

Sure, we can control such behavior through the “bylayer” feature but I’m not sure if this very particular behavior might exist in the AutoCAD; color-based lineweigth!

Lightroom :: Manage Color Printing To Remove Magenta Cast?

Dec 4, 2012

Right now I am working on a Win 7 64 computer and have a Canon MP810 printer.  I read the materials on color management and set my color management in "Print" in Lightroom 4 to "managed by printer".   My printer color management in advanced settings is set all to defaults.  When I print a photo from Lightroom 4, there is a distinct magenta cast to the entire photo, but it's most observable in midtone neutrals.  A burnt out section of a lightbulb goes white, for instance, but greys seem to go pinkish, greens to a rust, etc.  I also printed the same photo from a windows file, using Windows 7 print mode.  That photo seemed to go slightly magenta in the neutrals but not nearly to the same degree. what I might try or test to see if I can get my print colors more accurate?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Manage XREFs And Layer States

Jan 8, 2013

I have been searching for a solution to better manage xrefs. We work with arch. dwgs and they often contain several nested xrefs. While working in our "base.dwg", I need a method to correct the problem of some layers in the xrefs from displaying in the base.dwg when they're frozen in the xref dwgs. VISRETAIN is at 1. What I'm having to do is click on the problem geometry, identify what xref it's in, open that xref to record the layer state(all the layers that should be frozen or thawed), go back to the base dwg, look in Layer Manager to indentify that xref's layers and freeze the layers I need frozen. However, if I open the xref all those layers that should be frozen ARE frozen, but back in the base dwg they are displayed (not frozen). It's very frustrating...espec. when you've got half a dozen or more xrefs in many of their dwgs; which are all multiplied in the base of course so I've got two dozen or more xrefs to sift thru. It's just such a pain. I guess I need a "tip" on how to properly manage xrefs.

What would be neat is to be able independently manage all the Layer States for the xrefs separate from the base dwg's Layer States--meaning they(the xrefs' states) DON'T affect the other layers in the base(or other xrefs). LS Manager lists all layer states and if you restore one of them, it affects the entire dwg. I don't want that. I want the Layer States to control ONLY those states that apply to the xref it was created in. That way, all I'd need to do is click on the xref in Layer Manager(from the base dwg) and restore that particular xref's layer state and be DONE. That way you could manage all your xref Layer States individually (and independently from) the base dwg. Thus, if you make changes in the xrefs you can easily save/restore those states from within the base.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Printing With HP DJ Z6200

Sep 3, 2012

We are having a print server in which HP DJ Z6200 printer is attached and shared. Nearly 200 users (with Win 7 64bit) are using this plotter. There are few other HP plotters also attached on this print server.

While trying to print any drawing from this HP DJ Z6200 printer, AutoCAD is showing below mentioned error -

None:This plotter configuration cannot be used for one of these reasons: the driver cannot be found, the evice can not be found or the device has a problem. The none plot device has been substituted.

After several googling & digging into the AutoCAD forums I have found that we need to create .PC3 file for this plotter. But while trying to do so, getting the same error message as mentioned. But from the same system, with any other application (MS Word, Excel, Acrobat), we are able to print on the same plotter. After several tryout, we have managed to create a .PC3 file from an Windows XP system. By copying that .PC3 file to affected system, printing is working fine. But its a work around for us as its very difficult to copy-paste .PC3 file for all the users (around 200 or more from different locations).

AutoCAD 2010 :: Faded Lines - Printing To PDF

Mar 6, 2013

When printing in AutoCAD 2011 when using the "DWG to PDF.pc3" printer, many lines in the resulting PDF are faded while others appear fine.  I can zoom in and all the lines appear with the same weight.  There are multiple layers on the drawing but all contain the same line weight and lines on the same layer appear with different weights.

This occurs on all AutoCAD files and all users.  I have tried changing pin assignments with no success.  Printing directly to Adobe PDF does not result in this issue but with each sheet of drawing being a different file this process uses a lot of time.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Printing Excel Spreadsheet Inserted Into DWG

Jan 27, 2012

Using AutoCAD 2010, and I'm having problems printing with one dwg, that I've had to copy an Excel Spreadsheet into.  The spreadsheet was created with Excel 2007, and has quite a bit of text in it, and I'm trying to print it on an E size sheet, to an HP Designjet 4000.  AutoCAD hangs up each time I try to print this, and my computer gets a message indicating that I'm low on disk space, even tho I do have plenty of space.  It's like Autocad is taking more resources than it normally should. How I can insert this spreadsheet into AutoCAD and be able to print it? I've inserted the spreadsheet in model space, and the titleblock/border is in paperspace. I've tried printing to pdf and exporting to other formats to see if that will work, but AutoCAD keeps hanging up.  Any other AutoCAD dwg works fine to print to the printer.  It's just this one file with a spreadsheet inserted into it.

AutoCAD 2010 :: 2012 - Application Crashes When Printing?

Feb 28, 2013

We are running Autocad 2012 on Windows 7 and printing to an HP5200 via server mapping in three different labs.

Had a similar problem before and changed the printer drivers from Universal back to PCL5.  Since Christmas however this problem seems to have come back.  We haven't changed anything.  Wondering if maybe there were patches or something that affected this??   When we preview or send a print job Autocad just greys out and crashes.  I do know that if we configure the computer to print via TCPIP it also works fine but this is not ideal with the number of computers and students we have.

Another thing we seemed to have noticed is that we don't have this problem with all printers but more oddly we noticed that when we change the default template some templates work and some don't.

By default we are set up to use the acadiso template as we are using the metric system - we can't get anything to plot using this.  If we start with the standard acad template we do not have this problem.  We have tried plotting a simple circle or a more complex drawing with the same result.  The sample files plot fine but I'm guessing they were likely not done in metric...
