AutoCAD 2010 :: Changing From Network Back To Standalone - XP

Nov 14, 2013

I have a couple of floating licenses for an old inventor series 11 product.  The license server is down and I need to change these licenses back to standalone licenses.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as standalone but it will not let me activate the software with the serial numbers on the back of the packaging.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Option Configuration Turning Back To Default If No Network License Is Detected

May 10, 2012

Here in my office we have several pc's running Inventor 2012 and we found out that when a network license is unavailable (the number of licenses is exceeded) then Inventor loses some of its configurations on OPTION window. The fields that are erased and put back to default:

- "General" Tab >> "Load VBA on start-up" is set to false;

- "General" Tab >> "Update physical properties on save" is set to false and "Parts and Assemblies" is unchecked;

- "File" Tab >>  "Default VBA project" is set back to default;

- "Contet Center" Tab >> "Location of Libraries" is set to default

- Customized buttons on Ribbonbar loses its icons and we have to recreate them everytime it happens.

have a fix and a new implementation for the new versions to come?

Lightroom :: Catalog Back-up On Network Drive?

Sep 27, 2011

I am working on a group of about 20,000 pictures. It is the stored photos of multiple users on a network drive.  My job is to organize the pictures in LR. When I am done, several users will be sharing the catalog.  The workflow the group wants to use involves downloading the catalog from a shared site on the network to their desktop. The users would then upload the latest catalog back to the network when they are finished.  They are used to the communication this involves and share other work this way.

I am working from my home computer. (The VPN was too slow) I have the pictures at home on a portable external drive. The catalog is on my internal drive.  When I have a section done, I export it as a catalog onto the external drive. I import it to the latest version of the master catalog on a desktop at work.  The work computer security does not allow me to directly work from my portable external drive so I have to copy and past the import catalog on to the desktop before I import it. When I import it to the master catalog, I move the pictures to the network drive.

My main question is can the users back-up the catalog on the network drive? As part of their workflow, they would automatically back-up the catalog to the network. The next users would then download the back-up to their desktop to use.  Once a week, we would clear old back-ups.

Also, are we losing information from the catalog when we copy it back and forth?

I am losing print presets (and import presets) as I test this. When I test the process on two computers at home, this does not happen.  I wonder if it is the work computer security?  Part of my workflow is to create a pdf contact sheet to send to the user. I use the form pdf wizard to make it interactive so the user can fill in whether to discard the picture and identify people/add text. I e-mail them the contact sheet. They e-mail it back completed.  The preset can be recreated but it is tempermental.  I want something I can leave for the users.

AutoCad :: Changing UCS Back To Normal?

Dec 1, 2011

I am working with a drawing done by an architect. It is a map tile with a site layout drawn on. The way it is rotated, north is actually pointing somewhere east. I reckon they have shifted the UCS for whatever reason, and the cursor has become that rotated red and green crosshairs.

How can I change it back so the north of the map tile is actually pointing north?

AutoCAD .NET :: Standalone Exe To Convert DXFs To DWGs

Jan 3, 2012

I'm developing on a W7 64bit machine  using VS2010 and AutoCAD 2010. Using COM, I've converted a VBA application into an .exe that runs but it is very slow (much slower then the 32bit VBA code used to run). Since we produce a lot of DXFs out of our 3D application, we want the conversion to be automated (hence, no more running inside of AutoCAD).

The current version just references the AutoCAD 2010 Type Library and the AutoCADObjectdbx COMs.For each DXF, the code does the following:

1. Adds new layers

2. Loops thru all entites (currently using a selectionset)

a. Changes the entity's layer based on a collection key and it's linetype to "bylayer"

b. For PolyLines and LWPolyLines, sets the constantwidth to 0

c. For all Text, changes the style to "SIMPLEX", the Scalefactor to 0.7 and looks for a special text value which indicates the drawing scale ("dscale").

3. Sets the drawing's DIMSCALE and LTSCALE to a multiple of the "dscale"

4. Scales all entities by "dscale"

5.  Purges All

6.  Zoomextents()

7. Saves the drawing as a *.dwg file

8. Closes the drawing

9. Logs some statistics on each file converted.

It seems as most of the time is spent in Step 2. I can obviously do steps 2,3 & 4 by reading/modifying  the DXF as a text file very fast. But I would rather keep all the processing inside of AutoCAD.So here are my questions(based on using COM):

1. What additional references do I need work directly with the drawing's database?

2. Are the NET transaction examples under this category valid when going through COM?

I've zipped and attached the current project (VS2010 project)  for possible reference

AutoCAD 2010 :: Using Xref Drawings Across The Network

Jun 15, 2012

We are a small company with two PCs - 1 laptop and a server.  We are having problems using xref drawings across the network.  The laptop is mapped to the Z drive and the reference file is on the server (D drive).  Each time we open a drawing on the laptop (Z drive) the xref files which is saved on the server (D drive) cannot be seen. We reattached the file and it works fine until we closed and reopen the drawing.  When the drawing is opened on the laptop the xref is not loaded on the screen.  However, the file extension can be seen but no drawing is visible.

In summary how can we tell get the laptop to permanently reference xref files saved on the server without them dropping out?

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Display Network Locations

I currently use diesel expressions to show the saved path and drawing name, but since we have a multitude of servers I'd like to show the server name as well. At the minute it just shows the network map name, i.e. N:, but I'd like to prefix that with the actual serve name, i.e. SERV-FILE-1 (or something like that).

AutoCAD 2010 :: Unable To Open DWG From Network Drive?

Feb 8, 2012

I am running AutoCAD MEP 2012. I am unable to open drawings that are stored on a network drive. I continue to get a "Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0X0000 Exception at f5bfaad0h"  and AutoCAD closes. If I copy that same file to the computer and make it local, it opens without any problem. All files local open just fine. Also, I am able to open the same drawing on the network from multiple other computers.

I have tried to repair AutoCAD and check all network settings on the computer, but everything appears correct.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Can't Install Network License Utility

Aug 7, 2012

I've installed the LM Tools license manager on a network server to distribute out floating license of AutoCAD 2010.  The network license currently has 5 floating licenses for AutoCAD 2010.  When I try and install the AutoCAD 2010 software on a client machine and go under "Install Tools and Utilities" I expect to see a choice for the Network License Activation Utility.  Unfortunately all I get is the options to install the License Manager (LM Tools), CAD Manager Tools, and SAMreport-Lite.  Nothing indicating an Activation Utility.

I may just be very oblivious but I'm not sure how to activate the program with the license server when I can't install the utility to do so.  Am I missing a step somewhere?  I have a feeling the answer is very obvious but I unfortunately can't see it.  The SN and Product Key are entered correctly and should reflect the type of license(s) they are.

AutoCad 2D :: Command To Bring Back Option Of Changing Visibility States On Previously Placed Blocks

Sep 6, 2012

I have a drawing with several dynamic blocks (over 1000 block references) with visibility states. I recently noticed that all of the blocks no longer have the option to change the visibility state (i.e. the upside down blue triangle no longer appears when clicking on the block).

If I insert a new block it comes in with the option to change the visibility state. However, the previously placed blocks still do not have the option of changing the visibilty state. Even if I update the definition of all block references in my drawing nothing changes with the previously placed blocks.

Is there an option/command to bring back the option of changing visibility states on my previously placed blocks?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Heavy Lag When Working With SheetSets Saved On Network?

Aug 29, 2012

We have all of our job files stored on our network.  If you open a sheetset from one of those network folders, it will open normally, you can view and scroll thru it normally, but the second you select / right click anything, it locks up cad (grey screen) and shows us the hourglass for 3-6 minutes, and then allows you to work with it, but with a 10-20 second delay on anything you try to do.  If you copy the same job folder to the C Drive, and re-open the sheetset, it operates perfectly.  Running a constant ping to our server returns a <0ms return with no lost packets.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Default Pipe Network Layer (Not The Structures Or Pipes The Network)

Dec 7, 2012

I am using Civil 3D 2013. I work in an office where we have a few different flavors of Autocad (LT, MEP, regular vanilla AutoCAD etc...) and versions (2010 LT, 2011, 2012, 2013).

For the most part there isn't much inter-office drawing coordinate that has to happen, but there is the occasional project where multiple disciplines (Structural, Mechanical and Civil Site) have to share drawings.

The specific problem I am having is when I share my 2013 Civil 3D drawing with a user using 2011 MEP. He gets the typical rectangle for the proxy objects (in my case, my pipe networks for sanitary and storm drain). We've tried downloading and installing various object enablers, but there doesn't seem to be one for a 2013 to 2011 scenario. So I setup my parts to be on layers that he can just turn off. HOWEVER... the actual pipe network (not the structures, parts, labels etc... the network itself) ends up on layer 0. For this specific project, I do the old (ssget "x" '((8 . "0")) search to select all objects on layer 0, add those objects to a selection set (pselect), then in my modify objects dialog I filter for pipe networks, then change the layer to something other then 0.

While this is a workaround that works for me, what I really want to know is if there is a way that I can change the default layer that the network (again, not pipes, structures or text, the actual network) so I don't have to use the workaround. Any thoughts?

P.S. It's killing me that I had to create a new Autodesk login and now all my AutoCAD "street cred" is lost

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Get The Old Array Style Back

Jun 2, 2011

My company just got all new computers and upgraded out AutoCAD to 2012 from 2009. And every single drafter has complained to me that the new Array is terrible. Basically, it seems to take 10 times as long to set up and array as it used to and now it's linking all of the objects together as a group which is absolutely terrible for what we do especially when we are making 4 or 5 columns or hundreds of objects. I cant find any classic or legacy array commands.

This really needs to be put back in because right now everyone is asking us to put AutoCAD 2009 back on the computers, and the whole reason we bought new PCs is because they couldn't run anything after 2009 without being too slow to be productive.
