Nov 24, 2003I like to use the sharpen feature and the unsharp mask feature but haven't gotten very good at it. Mostly I'm wondering if there is a way to calibrate the sharpen function so that it doesn't sharpen quite so much each time I click it.

Jul 11, 2010I just came over from Sony Vegas Pro 9 (which kicks ***, but has bad native support for DSLR files).
In Vegas you can apply effects to video in three ways:
1. A whole clip in the project media bin (automatically applying such effects to all timeline events using this clip).
2. Individual timeline events.
3. Entire video tracks (automatically applying such effects to every clip on the track).
Is this possible in Premiere CS5? I find it hard to believe that it's not possible since it is such a useful thing to do. For example, what if you have a bunch of footage that you want to look grainy but you don't want to apply the same effect to every timeline event from the clips because it is time consuming and creates many sources of change if you want to tweak the effect settings?
VideoStudio :: Transition Effects Work On Any Track Above It?

I would like to know how to use a Transition without it affecting all tracks above it?
For example, if you apply a crossfade transition to a title track to make it fade-in, it will also affect the video track(s) above. The videotrack will suddenly turn black and then fade in together with the title.
Actually it will affect every track above the transition effect. So if you use for example the 'Switch Off' transition on the 2nd title track, it will also switch off the 1st title track, any possible overlay tracks and the main video track.
I can't imagine this should be happening. Is it a bug on my computer or is it a software issue
After Effects :: Using A Keyed Layer As A Track Matte?
Sep 18, 2013I am experiencing a strange issue on a comp I am working with, and due to the way its set up, and the pre-comps etc, I am not even sure how to go about asking the questions!
1) To start:
I have a comp with 3 Footage layers. One 4K Moving background image from Video blocks, interpreted at 25FPS. One R3D clip of one of our ships, camera on a tripod and ship "Waggling" slightly up and down - kept in RAW mode for clean keying. A duplicate of this layer, used as the colour corrected layer.
I have a Comp that contains the RAW footage, Keyed, and the colour corrected footage below it and set to Alpha matte.
Above is the settings and the output of the ships wing.
This is then precomped, and engine glows, contrails and thrusters etc are added with Null objects, lights, optical flares and particular:
at this point, everything looks great, this is then further precomped into a new comp, where it is placed above the background layer - and here is where the issue happens. It is almost as if the trackmatte is a frame or two behind the colour layer:
<-- notice the blue edging from the blue screen.
I track these layers backwards and forwards through the precomps, and I cant figure out why this happens?
(there are keyframes on the trackers above, and the contrail precomps for position, and a scale change over time on the ship layer in the final comp.) If I pull the ships precomp into the final comp as a new layer - the issue remains. If I double click to open the ship layer, the issue is not visible.
VideoStudio :: Applying Transition Effects To Just Overlay Track?
Mar 17, 2013I thought this would be fixed with version 6 but I guess it isn't or maybe I'm still just doing it wrong. How do you apply a transition effect to just the overlay track. For instance I want to apply dissolve to an animated gif that I'm using in my overlay track but when I do it gets applied to everything and even the primary track blacks out and then dissolves back in. So frustrating. I switched over to final cut pro because of this but love the ease of use of VSP so I bought version 6 hoping this issue had been fixed.

Nov 8, 2013I have an old man whose eyes are slitty and so I have created a white with a layer and feathered it round his wrinkles and it looks ok. I can add mask track to this in ae and also track it in mocha. I have an iris import clip that I then need to add to the white. It is in .png.
I cannot make a mask path appear on the layer information to the left of the screen so the iris dances about and can't be tracked.
How do I blend the white mask layer and the iris layer so they move as one? Do I put them together then track them togethr in mocha?
I have spent a day on this trying to figure it. On top of that I would also like to clone an eyelid half open so that I can put this on top of white layer, iris layer and then eyelid and track all together. But if possible the white and iris moving together would be enough.
In the instructions on youtube I have also found that when I hit 3d little cube icon I get a black background on the iris and not the old mans face how do I get rid of that?
This is for a man who gets wolf eyes in the film. Would it be easier to get some wolf eyes in photoshop and stick those on? the clip is just 4 secs long.

Mar 22, 2011how to apply the Mask & Chroma Key. I've dragged a Color into the timeline, and selected OPTIONS and then Mask & Chroma Key, but all I have now is a neon green glob on my screen that covers everything else (because that's the color I chose.)
So how do I blot out the background of a brief video clip?
And - for that matter - I'm trying to find some tutorials so I can try out features without continuing to bother everyone?

So my question is: How do you apply a vector mask to a folder in Photoshop CS6?
And while we're at it, what are the best methods for applying vector masks to regular layers?

Feb 17, 2011I have found where / how to apply a background mask to text (listed in the properties box when I highlight text). The list of fill colors does not include white. I was hoping to create a background mask that did not add a shaded box to a black and white print but simply blocked out the contents behind the text.

Paint.NET :: Apply Bevel After Alpha Mask?
Jun 25, 2013to make the text image in the attached file. I want to apply a bevel to the text now that I have alpha masked it to get the gradient effect. But the bevel tool is treating the entire image (not just the text) as my selected object.
When I get done with the alpha mask, how do I get the text only as my selected object so that the bevel tool will apply the bevel to only the text?
I'm trying to get the text effect in this link: [URL] or something close to it. A previous post asked the same thing but the only answers he got was how to make it look gold, not how to do all the beveling, textures, sparkles, etc. For now though, all I'm wanting to do is achieve the bevel effect before I move on.
edit: the weird thing is, I can use the outline tool and it will apply only to the text. but when i use the bevel tool, it applies to the outer edges of the canvas.
Photoshop :: Restore (apply Layer Mask) OPTION?
Oct 18, 2013There's a new feature where you can opt to drag a layer mask to the trash and NOT be prompted to "apply layer mask?". This also has the "do not show again" option -which I clicked by accident. So the default is now to apply layer mask when I drag a layer mask to the trash. I can't think of any way to restore the more traditional function, without restoring all other prefs.
So what I would like is a way to restore the more classic default where dragging a layer mask to trash give me the OPTION to apply or discard.

Mar 15, 2006I'm a pro user of MS Paint at work but was wondering if there was Photoshop feature similar to the Paint one whereby you can cancel out the white background of an image automatically? So, instead of pasting a picture and it's square white background you just paste the image?

Apr 8, 2014This has been hit and miss. I am now consistenly getting a dynamic link server connection trying to use Track camera in After Effects.

I have enabled all the recommended programs through my firewall. I see the dynamiclink server is running in my task manager, I have closed all other programs, no antivirus, I have restarted my computer, no luck with this.
Also to add additional information:
It seems that when I try to do replace with After Effects composition in Premiere Pro I am getting error: The importer reported a generic error
and also when I first launch After effects I am getting a failure to load a few plugins from CineForm including importer

Jun 28, 2013I am making selections of models off of a white background. I use the quick select tool and refine to make a clean selection. I go in and use the clone tool to remove the "halo" that is still there to make a super clean selection with no light bleed on the model. I put a black layer underneath to make sure that I got all of the remnants. I save the selection and turn it into a channel. I apply the layer mask and everything looks good. I flatten the image and put it on a white background (this is the desired form of delivery for client) Image saved and closed. When reopened, I make a selection using the channel and there is a distinct halo effect still present. I have tried making the selection and going over it a couple times with the brush at 100% and it works a little bit, but not entirely. I have already spent a lot of time going through cloning things out so it looks good, delivering the images, then they are sent back because of the halo.

Mar 11, 2013Still getting mixed results using "Refine Mask" feature. I have seen the tutorials on this -Russel B, and Juleane Kost. Sometimes the results are outstanding, other times I have to resort to contrast masking, etc. I currently have a series of portraits shot against blue (basically a blue screen). Some of the subjects have good hair contrast (very dark brown or grey). There are many parameters to set in the refine mask dialog. I need a clean, sharp silo of hair edges.
I have tried many combinations, and typically use "smart radius". But I am particularly disappointed with the results of one subject who has grey hair -good contrast against the blue. They mask tool keeps including too much of the BG blue. I have also tried decontaminating colors, but prefer to do that later with a layer set to "color". Some of the tutorials sneer at the use of Contrast Masks (which I typically get good results from). But the the Refine Mask options often produce flawed results -which is surprising with these blue screen portraits.

Sep 1, 2005I would like to apply colorfull effects to an image, but i do not know how. A long time ago I played with photoshop, and i remeber that at the click of a button I was able to transform the image completely with colorfull effects. Im working on my sisters PC while shes a way on vacation , and would like to transform this image.The present image is black and white , but i would like to recall how to do this to any image.
Any help appreciated. Basically I plan to use images as references for painting, but Id like to change the colors on the image completely using presets. Im not sure if they are filters or what not.I tried the filters , but thats not what im looking for. I need to completely transform the colors.

Every effect I've tried causes the program to "Not Respond", and then shows the program applying the "Gaussian Blur" when I have not applied it. The program applied "Gaussian Blur" also does not take effect, even though it shows the program applying it.

For example, if I run the following effects I have to apply it to each image one effect at a time and repeat for each image that I want the exact same effects applied but would prefer to do it all in one go
Blur/(GPU) Gaussian Blur
Noise/Reduce Noise
Photo/Sharpen+
I use these to clean up the moire from scans and reduce dust/dirt then apply a mild sharpen effect to bring back the now softenend image back up slightly. Being able to have presets would be a real bonus for quick clean ups, of digital camera images or camera phone images
I found it by spending a bit more time looking through the menus, under the Effect menu and the Advanced tab and creating a custom effects script ......
But now would like to see if I can have a list of presets instead of having to load them through the script engine one at a time, maybe an option under the 'Effects/Presets' menu option listing all the scripts that are currently saved.
GIMP :: Editing Text Will No Longer Apply Italic Nor Bold Effects
Oct 1, 2013When I am editing text, GIMP will no longer apply italic nor bold effects. (Underline works though.)
I just upgraded from 2.8(.2?) to 2.8.6, and now I have this problem. I also just upgraded from Win XP to WIn 7 and upgraded from 32-bit to 64-bit, so I don't know if that is a factor.
I have files I created with the last version of GIMP that I can open and see the text properly formatted, but if I adjust the text the formatting disappears and WILL NOT come back.
GIMP won't print anymore either. My printer is set up correctly and I can print from other programs, but when I print from GIMP, it LOOKS like it went through, but the printer fails to do anything. I wind up having to tell GIMP to print to the microsoft xps writer (which DOES work) and then open the xps file I just made and have windows print it.

I know there is a replace clip facility but there appears to be no way of editing the new clip. What I would like to do is leave blanks in sync with the music and fill in correct length of shot later. The same question for overlaying video shots of an interview and holding sync when returning to interviewee.

Dec 9, 2013In VideoStudio 6, how does one connect the voice track to the video during the editing process?
My specific issue is that I have to go back and edit material sometimes that precedes the voice track I already have laid down, but when the time frame of the material after my new edit I have to go back and drag the voice track to the proper location. I would like to be able to permanently "attach" the voice track to the specific video clip and have it follow that clip as it is moved, time wise, during the editing process.
Is there a means to make this happen?
PS - I realize there is a work around way - just publish each clip and then rebuild the final project but that is NOT what I want to do.

now i want to scale it down (NOT to shrink/expand masked area)
tried this: selected footage layer and went to Transform - Scale, and even if i scale down to -500%, nothing happens. Then went to Mask - Mask Expansion, but this is not the feature i need. I need to scale down the object which i've masked out
also tried to add adjustment layer and linked my mask layer to it and then tried to scale down Adjustment layer - no effect, simply nothing happens
using AE6 trial version on win7

Oct 27, 2013im trying to make an adjustment to one section of my footage.i followed other instructions elsewhere about making a mask on a solid and then linking the solid to a null object, which has tracking footage (i was thinking i could motion track a mask?)
so i did that, but tracking motion doesnt work, the mask moves everywhere so i went in and moved the mask points at keyframes, which was annoying. but now i can't add adjustments to the solid where the mask is. i turned the solid into an adjustment layer but adding color correction adjustments doesn't work.
i have to use after effects by the way. basically tl:dr i need to color correct one section (or the masked part) of my footage. how can i do that in AE?
also is there an easier way to motion track something that goes completely off screen or out of the comp window? cause its a handheld shot and theres like a pan, and im trying to track the mask but it doesnt really work or stay around the area it needs to.
